    This.

    There isn't anyone like LeBron.He's a mix between Magic/Pippen/Dr J/MJ

Wade is the closest player to Jordan today.

But JORDAN was clearly the best player of the league.Today that's not clear.Maybe LeBron in my opinion but it's not so clear.
You think Lebron > Jordan...oh ...you in trouble sons...you best put your flame suit on!

    There was no premise.

If Kobe is the closest thing to Jordan.

Kobe is just as close to MJ as anyone else. Still cannot sniff his jock, but no different than the rest of the wannabes.

Whats closest to 1000? 1 or 10? The answer is 10. Now if someone wants to bring up option 101, then bring it up and state your reasons. Simple as that.

Some of you guys just like making things harder then it really is.

What number is Jordan and what number is Kobe? Those are the questions that need to be answered. If Jordan is 1000 and that's the highest that's ever been attained, then I would say Kobe is in the 700s. Most others like him are in the 600s or less. Close as anyone, as I said, but cannot sniff his jock.

Never heard about that, that's hilarious
Crap... I remembered it incorrectly. He rushed back right before the All-Star break, played the All-Star game, then played briefly the first game back after the break before going back on the injured list in the 97-98 season. He got a raft of from the media for putting the All-Star game ahead of his team.

I am trying to understand his argument. What does he mean "closer"? Is every argument here based on opinion that cannot be proven right or wrong?

A lot of people have argued, including NBA people like coaches and NBA analysts, that Kobe is the closest the NBA has seen to Jordan since Jordan. Does that mean he's as good? No. Does it mean he's even close to what Jordan was? No. It only means that people who argue it are saying that Kobe is closer to Jordan than anyone else over the last decade.

Now you can disagree with that if you want to. You can argue that Wade is closer. In terms of actual game, I would even tend to agree. You can argue athletically, Vince Carter was closer. That's fine too if you want to go there. But there is a premise. And it is based on a fairly common perception, even among those in the know in the NBA.

"Closer" does not necessarily mean close. "Closer" is a comparative term. It only requires that that being compared is closer than anything (or in this case, anyone) else.

Tell Kobe to play baseball for a bit, and with no dominant big men... in a more physical era.

even if Kobe gets 7, he ain't better than mother ing Jordan.

He is without a doubt the closest to Jordan in terms of pure hatred for losing, for swagger and the ability to impact the defense of the other team in ways usually only really quality bigs can do. Any other comparison about any other player is futile. Rings have to come into play. Lebron might get there, but he's already damaged himself by joining up with Wade. We'll see though.

Wade isn't close. He's a great player, but he accepts losing much easier than either Kobe or Michael has. He's talented, no doubt, but not a much as Bryant. I don't think he works as hard as Bryant on or off the court.

He's the closest using the criteria I mentioned. Rings, aggression, ability. What he lacks is dominance. He's had moments of great dominance, but MJ owned the court, totally owned it. Kobe's come the closest.

So after all this explanation and clarification, here goes my attempt:

    Kobe: Jordan

    =
Dwyane Wade : No one, there simply wasn't a player that much better in the 90s, and has a similar game

    or

Lebron James : No one, there simply wasn't a player that much better in the 90s, and has a similar game

    or

Derrick Rose : No one, there simply wasn't a player that much better in the 90s, and has a similar game

    or

Kevin Durant : No one, there simply wasn't a player that much better in the 90s, and has a similar game

    On the other hand:

    Jordan : Kobe

    =

Wade: Dan Marjele (the one who actually drove into the lane)

    James: Derrick Mckey (Does everything)

Rose: Lindsey Hunter (the pre-defensive demon one, attacks the basket relentlessly)

Durant: Steve Novak (long range shooting big)

Wade and Kobe resemble MJ, Wade more than Kobe actually.
    Rose resembles Iverson.
Durant and LeBron had no equal in the past.

LeBron is like an improved version of 'Nique, that also defends and can pass.
