What number is Jordan and what number is Kobe? Those are the questions that need to be answered. If Jordan is 1000 and that's the highest that's ever been attained, then I would say Kobe is in the 700s. Most others like him are in the 600s or less. Close as anyone, as I said, but cannot sniff his jock.

No. Does it mean he's even close to what Jordan was? No. It only means that people who argue it are saying that Kobe is closer to Jordan than anyone else over the last decade.
Now you can disagree with that if you want to. You can argue that Wade is closer. In terms of actual game, I would even tend to agree. You can argue athletically, Vince Carter was closer. That's fine too if you want to go there. But there is a premise. And it is based on a fairly common perception, even among those in the know in the NBA.
"Closer" does not necessarily mean close. "Closer" is a comparative term. It only requires that that being compared is closer than anything (or in this case, anyone) else.

He is without a doubt the closest to Jordan in terms of pure hatred for losing, for swagger and the ability to impact the defense of the other team in ways usually only really quality bigs can do. Any other comparison about any other player is futile. Rings have to come into play. Lebron might get there, but he's already damaged himself by joining up with Wade. We'll see though.
Wade isn't close. He's a great player, but he accepts losing much easier than either Kobe or Michael has. He's talented, no doubt, but not a much as Bryant. He's the closest using the criteria I mentioned. Rings, aggression, ability. What he lacks is dominance. He's had moments of great dominance, but MJ owned the court, totally owned it.
