self checkout should be somewhat like the express lane. It shouldn't be for re ed soccer moms with a cart full of food who need help scanning every 3rd item they have.
They've had a touch screen ordering system at the Burger King in Terminal A at Atlanta Hartsfield for over two years now.
You can still order from a cashier if you want, but they have three touchscreen machines where you can order your food.
It's basically a digitized version of the overhead menu, and does have pics of the various meals. Then you can click on a button to change your toppings on your burger if you want.
Guessing McD's will go the same way.
Btw, why do soccer moms suck so much at buying groceries and driving? Those are like the only 2 things they need to be good at in life (and attending PTA meetings I guess), and most soccer moms are a disaster on wheels when they drive and always require the most attention from the self-checkout helper when checking out.

Same here. I think this is universal across almost all fast food though. I really cant remember the last time i went to a fastfood joint and actually got what i asked for. The worst offender near us is Schlotskys. Every single time they like, deliberately do EXACTLY opposite of what you ask. If you say no Mayo, they put like 5x the ammount of mayo.

WTF do you expect!?!? It is fast food that means order what is on the menu and stop trying to special order a burger. If you want exactly what you want then go to a real sit-down restaurant and see if the chef will cook it your way.
In my one summer of McDonald's labor I never intentionally botched a special order, but the basic philosophy of some of the kitchen vets was that getting special orders right boiled down to whether or not they gave a damn that day and most days they didn't. On the rare occasion that anyone gave them that's when they'd put on the "me english no so good" act. Some of those "stupid illegals" you guys think populate these kitchens are having a good laugh behind your backs.
This thread reminded me that I saw Lethal Weapon 2 on TNT this weekend. Joe Pesci's got a rant about how the drive thru people will up your order on purpose because they know it won't be found out until you're already too far away to bother with complaints. That definitely happens. I saw a manager say as much to a trainnee. Most of the order was ready to go and she realized at the last second that she'd put ketchup on the burger. " it, it's drive thru, it won't matter. Get the order out and get them out of here." said the manager.
I worked at Taco Bell for 3 months in the early 2000s. I never washed my hands once. Not once. It was funny.
HEBs in the Austin area still have them.

once again, you're not responding to the fact that they make just as much as everyone else in that business but do a whole lot worse. Figure that out before going on another tirade. And I never said the quality of the food is bad.
Maybe I should be a little more sympathetic considering I know ordering it with "no cheese" just confuses the out of them and completely throws their world upside down
people acting like ordering with no cheese or no pickles makes it an extremely difficult task for the restaurant

Its not difficult they just don't give a , if the customer doesn't like it they can go somewhere else. Which they won't cause they are either too lazy or cheap
And whether or not they do actually go elsewhere is also beyond the point because none of that has real impact on the workers.
Yeah I know, but you'd think even a women's who's in job is driving her kids to/from school and soccer practice would eventually figure out how to drive. An Asian soccer mom driving a mini-van it might as well be a tank driven by Jihad terrorists.
