Good stuff, Bill. We'll do a big summary of everything tomorrow once there's more solid information and we get a feel for the how the camp went, but here are some things that stand out so far and BFLT already mentioned two of them:

-OL Tre'Von Armstead of Port Arthur Memorial did make it in and that was a smart move on his part if he wants a Texas offer. I believe there is an NCAA rule where you can't offer prospects while they're at camp and have to wait until they return home, so we'll have to wait until later tonight or tomorrow before we hear anything on that front.

-Big news on 2013 QB Tyrone Swoopes of Whitewright. Not only did he make it to Austin today, but he's also staying through Wednesday for UT's overnight camp. 2013 OL/DL A'Shawn Robinson of FW Arlington Heights is doing the same.

-Things are back on again with DE Torshiro Davis of Shreveport, LA. Even though the staff is struggling with the numbers game right now and want to make sure they have enough room for their main targets, I found it odd that they would simply cut off communication with such a stud prospect like Davis. Turns out Mack Brown changed his mind and felt Davis was too good to pass up (it also speaks to UT's chances in this recruitment). He had Bo Davis re-invite him to J12 and he's on campus as we speak.

-DB Justin Thomas of West Orange-Stark did not make it in for J12.
You're right Floss. Teams can't offer recruits at summer camps. It's common for coaches to call recruits and their families while they are driving home and extend the offer then.

Great news on Armstead attending J12. As I'm sure y'all have gathered, I'm a big fan of Armstead. Tre'von is pretty raw, but he has all the skills and physical attributes to develop into a LT at the next level. Hopefully, the Armsteads will get a call from Mack on their way back to Port Arthur.

Tremendous news on Swoopes attending the Texas' overnight camp. TCU was thought to be the leader for Swoopes, but after 4 days on campus, one would think that Texas would close the gap if not overtake TCU as Swoopes' leader.

It'd be cool if A'Shawn Robinson and Swoopes became friends during the overnight camp. Players recruit other players just as much as the coaches do.

It SEEMS like Mack is turning over a new leaf. I'm cautiously optimistic, we'll see what happens. Mack is way out of his comfort zone on Torshiro Davis, an OOS recruit and committed player. Bo Davis deserves a lot of credit for sticking with this one.

Not unexpected news on Justin Thomas. Thomas might have known he wasn't going to offered today, and didn't see the point in taking another Texas visit. I think Thomas' recruitment will be in a holding pattern until LSU, OU or Texas offers.

Looking forward to the big summary tomorrow Floss.

Like you read in the Recruitocosm article, TCU is just his "it" school right now. They won the Rose Bowl and they've offered, so I wouldn't harp on it too much. A sit-down with Mack Brown and an offer from Texas changes a lot with most prospects. UT will still need to do their part, though.

I wonder if Bo Davis was the one who convinced Mack Brown to keep working on this one, or if Brown was the one having second thoughts. Either way, Torshiro is meeting with Brown right now to make his offer official. So glad this worked out as I was highly disappointed on Thursday evening.

Guys...here's a recap of everything I could find from this weekend. A lot of it has already been discussed but I've added some more detail in certain areas. I'll try to round up a list of the important names that made it in for J12, but that's been hard to come by because there were so many no-shows, cancellations, guys who missed because of travel arrangements, etc. Enjoy!

*OL Tre'Von Armstead of Port Arthur Memorial was the one to watch this weekend and it was going to be big news whether he received an offer or not. Turns out he's been "impossible" to reach since he left J12 yesterday. On the surface one would think he didn't get offered as we probably would've heard the good news by now. Makes you wonder if Stacy Searels will continue to evaluate him and/or other in-state prospects or if the decision has been made to go all out for OTs Andrus Peat and John Theus. It will only get harder to pull Armstead away from Baylor if he's the guy they want.

*DE Torshiro Davis of Shreveport, LA made it in this weekend with his teammate, 2013 DT Christopher Robinson. It's still a bit unclear how things turned around so quickly in Davis' recruitment after Thursday evening's disappointing news, but Texas is back in the race and Davis "loved" his visit. He said Texas isn't at the top right now because they haven't been recruiting him as long as LSU and Alabama, but the latest rumors have Davis wanting to leave Louisiana for college. This one could very well come down to UT and Alabama. Davis is considered a "longshot" by some, but I've always felt UT could win out in the end because of the presence of Bo Davis. Hopefully the staff sticks with this one.

An interesting note on 2013 DT Christopher Robinson. His coach, DeCarlos Holmes, said he performed very well and got the vibe that UT was interested enough to extend a scholarship offer next February. Just something to keep in mind since 2013 is stacked with talented big men on both sides of the ball.

*2013 DB Marcell Harris of Groveland, FL gave his visit to Austin a "9 out of 10." He deducted a point simply because of the heat everyone was having to deal with, but he loved everything else and said the trip was totally worth it. The Harris family actually arrived on Saturday afternoon and it gave them an opportunity to tour the facilities. Harris' father spent a good deal of time with the coaching staff while his mother sat down with the coaches' wives. Harris mentioned the top notch facilities and getting to work with Duane Akina as the highlight of his trip. He said coming to J12 only helped the Longhorns positioning in his recruitment and they'll continue to be one of his favorites. I think it's a safe bet to assume the staff told him he'll be getting an offer in February. Texas will have to continue to work hard on this one because Harris' dad played for Florida in the mid-90s and they're likely the one program standing in UT's way.

*One stud prospect that wasn't in attendance this weekend was 2013 LB Paul Whitmill of Bastrop. He does have a tentative visit to Austin scheduled for this Tuesday, 6/14, but his plans are still up in the air. This is another guy UT will have to work hard on because his childhood favorite is OU. It will likely help that the Longhorns are currently in good position with his teammate, 2013 DB Antwuan Davis.

*Some of my favorite news of the weekend had to do with 2013 QB Tyrone Swoopes of Whitewright. Not only did he show up to Austin, but he'll be staying on campus for UT's overnight camp until Wednesday. That'll give Bryan Harsin a solid three days to evaluate him for this next recruiting cyle. It's not a secret that he has a little crush on TCU right now, but I see him as a guy that'll eventually come around. Camping at UT for a few days is a great sign of his interest in the Longhorns.

*Status quo with ATH Daniel Brooks of Rockdale. He and his family were supposed to sit down this weekend and discuss his offers from OU and Texas, but they weren't able to do so because Brooks decided to go out of town with some friends. Brooks' father is out of town the majority of each week due to his job so the weekends are the only time he has to catch his breath. Brooks' parents still need to meet the UT staff and things should progress in a positive direction once that happens.

*Not much to report on 2013 RB James White of Pearland. He was definitely the highest rated RB in attendance yesterday and he mentioned he enjoyed his visit and the opportunity to work with Major Applewhite. He hasn't listed a specific favorite thus far, but he did say that the recent commitment of OL Kennedy Estelle has put the Longhorns in a favorable position. He also lists A&M, Alabama, LSU and OU as his top schools of interest.

*Top prospect 2013 TE Ricky Seals-Jones wasn't able to make J12 this weekend because of family plans, but did make a statment that it was no reflection of how he felt about UT. He's actually not putting much attention on football at this time and doesn't have any camp plans for the forseeable future. If Seals-Jones does commit to a future in football, the Longhorns are in a great position. He's one of a handful of guys (Swoopes included) in this class that idolized Vince Young growing up and has always cheered for UT.

*2013 DT Vincent Taylor of San Antonio Madison was at J12 yesterday but didn't get to participate because he was late with his registration. He said he was pretty disappointed that he didn't get to go out there and compete, but stated he already has plans to return to Austin and meet with the coaches.

*Here are some big names that didn't end up attending the camp yesterday:

    WR, Cayleb Jones, S.F. Austin
WR, Prentavious Moorehead, Dallas Kimball (transportation)
WR, Jake Oliver, Dallas Jesuit (broken foot)
    TE, Ricky Seals-Jones, Sealy (vacation)
DE, Danielle Hunter, Katy Morton Ranch
DE, Jamal Palmer, McKinney Boyd (Baylor camp)
DT, Isaiah Golden, Elysian Fields (sick)
DT, Ben Hughes, Waco University (transportation, money for registration)
DT, Javonte Magee, San Antonio Sam Houston (transportation)
DT, Justin Manning, Dallas Kimball (transportation)
    LB, Paul Whitmill, Bastrop
DB, Colin Blake, San Antonio Brandeis
DB, Justin Thomas, West Orange-Stark (transportation)

*QB Jared Johnson of South Grand Prairie has committed to Baylor.

I agree. I know that the whole recruiting vibe on campus this summer has been very positive for all of the coaches and recruits that come through. It's been exciting for them to see former players such as Derrick Johnson and Brian Orakpo do their off-season workouts at UT's facilities during the NFL lockout.

Thanks TFloss. It's a little strange that Cayleb Jones failed to make both J5 and J12. This combined with being ejected from the Lake Travis 7 on 7 tournament concerns me a little bit. I'm not concerned about Jones' commitment to Texas, but you wonder about Jones' character.

I agree we would have heard something by now if Armstead was offered at J12. I don't think something as big as a new offer could slip by the Hook Em 247 , Orangebloods and Inside Texas' staffs. It sounds like the Armsteads left Austin and turned off their phones. Maybe Tre'von and his family have some things to discuss and don't want to talk to the media. It wouldn't surprise me if Mack and Stacy told Armstead to drop Baylor and call them for an offer.

Good news all around on Swoopes. Floss who are the decision makers in the Swoopes camp? His father, mother, head coach or gulp an uncle? I'm hoping for some Swoopes and A'Shawn Robinson bonding in the next three days.

Agreed 3 days should be enough time for Coach Harsin to decide where to prioritize at QB for 2013. Harsin has likely seen the top 3 sop re quarterbacks in Texas in Chris Johnson, Tyrone Swoopes and Kohl Stewart in the past 2 weeks.

Torshiro Davis very quietly and not so quietly likes Bama a lot. LSU should be deeply concerned on this one. I am happy that Torshiro made it to campus and enjoyed his visit. Agreed Bo Davis keeps us solidly in Torshiro's top 3. Bo is going to have to work his magic on this one as Texas is late to the party.

It'll be interesting to watch if Chris Robinson receives a Junior Day invitation. There's a ton of time to make up ground on Justin Manning, but you wonder if Robinson is a replacement option or a stand alone option.

I read Marcell Harris' crack about the Texas heat, haha. A Florida kid calling Texas hot, well if that's not the kettle calling the pot black. 9 out 10 ain't bad though. I like that Marcell Harris brought his father and his mother. This isn't a recruit checking out different schools on vacation with his buddies, this a young man who brought his family to take a serious look at Texas and only Texas. Florida will be tough compe ion for Harris, but I think it's safe to say Texas is in his top 2-3.

Paul Whitmill is far and away the best 2013 linebacker in the state of Texas as things stand right now. I watched Whitmill's film this weekend and I was thoroughly impressed. Great speed for a linebacker, and an explosive hitter. I'm not sure if he's a MLB or an OLB at Texas, but Whitmill has great range and can deliver a blow from sideline to sideline. Hopefully he makes it on Tuesday. Plenty of time to make up ground on a recruit that is 30 miles from DKR.

Floss, Daniel Brooks was in Norman the middle of last week correct? Probably have to wait until next weekend before the Brooks family have that sit down talk.

I'd kill for some film on James White. If anybody has a link please post it. It sure seems like White is Texas' number 1 priority at RB for 2013. I wonder if White was told as much at J12? Good news that he enjoyed his visit and working with Major. Major could be very quietly the best recruiter on Texas' staff.

Seals - Jones is making a mistake by not focusing more on football. Hopefully Eric erson will learn his nephew / cousin and steer him towards football. Unlike Derrick Griffin, Seals - Jones is not an elite basketball player. Football is almost certainly Seals - Jones best sport. Hopefully he'll learn that this year. Seals - Jones is expected to be the starting quarterback at Sealy this season.

So Vincent Taylor didn't get to participate because he was late with his registration? Texas should made some exceptions and accepted his paper work late. Taylor is an elite recruit who likes LSU already, it's a good idea to stay in his good graces and let him work out.

Both the Kimball recruits quelled by transportation issues. It's funny that nobody has more problems securing rides than recruits. take a bus. Manning is a lock for Junior Day invitation, and Moorehead could certainly work his way into one.

If Jake Oliver couldn't work out, I don't see the point either in making it down to Austin.

Unfortunate that Isiah Golden was sick. I expected rave reviews from his J12 performance.

TFloss did Colin Janice make it J12? If so, the Justin Thomas transportation issues are suspect.

Javonte Magee was finally offered by LSU. He's gone.

I believe Colin Blake missed J5 because of a family vacation. It's plausible the Blakes are still on vacation. I'd like to see Blake visit Texas sometime during the summer.

Danielle Hunter not making either June camps was a head scratcher until this past Thursday when Texas momentarily dropped their recruitment of Torshiro Davis. A spot might not be there right now for Hunter. Hunter could be waiting for a Texas offer before he visits.

It'll be interesting to watch the Tre'von Armstead developments. If a new Texas does come out, Armstead is the most likely of the in state targets.

In somewhat breaking news, South Houston DB Kenneth Marshall has committed to Aggie.

Jones definitely has some maturing do and he's said as much. Not trying to cover for the kid, but I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that he's so compe ive and he doesn't know how to handle himself when things go wrong. With that said, he's a definite take with or without those issues. It's not something the staff is unfamiliar with as they've scouted him for a couple of years now. I expect that to be taken care of by the coaches quickly if those issues carry over into UT.

Good news all around on Swoopes. Floss who are the decision makers in the Swoopes camp? His father, mother, head coach or gulp an uncle? I'm hoping for some Swoopes and A'Shawn Robinson bonding in the next three days.
I don't know for sure, but I do know that his mother is a coach and teacher at Whitewright HS. I assume she'll be a big part of his recruitment and from what I've read sounds like a solid lady. No shady characters around him that I know of.

Floss, Daniel Brooks was in Norman the middle of last week correct? Probably have to wait until next weekend before the Brooks family have that sit down talk.
Brooks did make it up to OU for their camp last week and I haven't heard anything about awkward situations with their staff because of the Texas offer. I'm glad he's able to take a vacation with his buddies, get away for a while and take some time to reflect on everything. I still think he ends up at Texas when all is said and done.

I think White is their #1 priority at RB unless another stud emerges this fall. Estelle will surely be a big piece to that puzzle.

So Vincent Taylor didn't get to participate because he was late with his registration? Texas should made some exceptions and accepted his paper work late. Taylor is an elite recruit who likes LSU already, it's a good idea to stay in his good graces and let him work out.
Don't be surprised if Taylor isn't one of the top priorities for the next class. While talented, I've heard criticism that he tends to disappear in games. I think you'll see the staff be more serious about landing Manning and Golden. He may be a lot like Magee in the sense that you lose him after an LSU offer is thrown his way.

TFloss did Colin Janice make it J12? If so, the Justin Thomas transportation issues are suspect.
I didn't hear a peep about the West Orange-Stark clan. I know that's a long trip to Austin for them. My guess is he didn't make it.

Javonte Magee was finally offered by LSU. He's gone.
We'll see how much of a "package deal" he is with his buddies now that his favorite school has offered. LSU or Baylor.

Danielle Hunter not making either June camps was a head scratcher until this past Thursday when Texas momentarily dropped their recruitment of Torshiro Davis. A spot might not be there right now for Hunter. Hunter could be waiting for a Texas offer before he visits.
I think the staff has moved on from Hunter for the time being and Davis is the only DE they'll pursue unless Spence shows more interest.

It'll be interesting to watch the Tre'von Armstead developments. If a new Texas does come out, Armstead is the most likely of the in state targets.
I think the idea is to go all out for Theus and Peat while continuing to stay close with Armstead and maybe a guy like Fuller. Just in case you get bad vibes on the five-star studs you can re-visit those recruitments at a later date if it's not too late. It's a tricky situation but I do think UT needs one more OL for this class.

Thanks for answering all my questions Floss. Good stuff.

It sounds like the Texas staff made some hard choices last week at OT and DE. Going for the OOS studs is the right approach. With ships being so tight, the staff might as well swing for the fences. If they miss, they miss, the spot probably wasn't there to begin with.

I didn't mean to imply that Cayleb Jones was a bad kid. When immaturity and compe iveness meet it can cause some explosive reactions. I'm glad that Cayleb is a passionate player. It's better than the alternative.

Swoopes sounds like a good kid with a solid family environment behind him. I don't think there's any shenanigans there, I was just curious what kind of family structure Swoopes was in. Texas has done exceedingly well with teaching / coaching parents.

    You're welcome.

I know you weren't trying to say he's a bad kid. He's not at all. He just has some maturing to do and needs to control his temper at times. I always like to see emotion from players (even if it's bad at times) because it shows they care and want to win at all costs. How many WRs on the team last year were just ho-hum about everything? Thankfully two of them graduated.

Update on WR Brock Fitzhenry...there was some chatter about him not returning to school next semester and possibly transferring out. He's not currently enrolled in summer school, but as of today he will return to school for the second summer session and report to pre-season workouts with the team. He only has about 30 hours left on his degree so it looks like he doesn't want to sell himself short. I imagine he'll get his degree next spring and likely move on from there despite having remaining eligibility (unless he wants to do grad school).

Geez, Texas can't catch a break attrition wise. I can't fault Brock. He seems like a kid that wants his degree more than he wants to play football. He could get an excellent degree at Rice, but they probably don't want him. The Texas staff might want to strongly examine Brock's options before the season. I could see Brock giving up football to focus on school.

Some very bad scholarships will be off the books after this season.

I don't think so. It looks like he's using the first summer session to work out in California with his QB coach, Tom Martinez. Sad news is Martinez recently found out he's dying due to complications from diabetes and doesn't have much time left. That will obviously change Wood's plans. I still think we see at least one QB transfer out within the year. My only questions are:

1.) Who receives snaps if Garrett Gilbert doesn't perform in the first couple of games?

2.) Will McCoy or Wood transfer if not given the starting job? Could both of them transfer if David Ash is the second option after Gilbert?

Tragic news on Tom Martinez. I hope he is able to get heart and kidney transplants.

    1) I think Case is first off the bench if / when Gilbert has difficulties.

    2) I think Wood will transfer if he doesn't win the starting job. I don't see Case transferring in any scenario despite rumors. I think Case will hold on to the hope that's he one injury away from being the starting quarterback. Additionally, I think Case is too loyal to Texas and his teammates to transfer.

If Gilbert struggles and Texas has a losing record after OU, Texas should turn to Ash for the remainder of the season. At that point, it'd be about preparing the team for next year and hoping for a bowl appearance.

*Oklahoma WR Trey Metoyer will be spending his first semester of college at Tyler JC. A lot of people (including myself) were furious that Texas didn't go after this guy last year even though he was a grade risk, but now we know he wouldn't have qualified.

*OL Andrus Peat will be taking a visit to South Bend this weekend. He is expected to be in Austin during the last week of June.

OU has possible early leads on Justin Manning and Paul Whitmill. Both the top sop res at their positions. Yeah I'd say OU will be coming back next year. UT has dominated OU in head to head recruiting battles in Texas, but rumors of their recruiting demise have been vastly exaggerated.

The old coaching staff couldn't do much right in recruiting the past few years, but they knew how to read a transcript. A lot of the local and national analysts downplayed Metoyer's qualifying issues, but obviously those concerns were well founded. I'd add that OU might have to recruit Metoyer all over again once he graduates from Tyler JC in 2 years should Metoyer be forced to pursue that path. Tough break for the Sooners. I'm shocked that Metoyer couldn't qualify at OU. If Metoyer had signed with OK State it might be a different story...

It's my understanding that IF Metoyer makes a qualifying ACT score during the summer he will be able to enroll at OU for the fall semester.

Peat is also scheduled to visit Michigan on the same trip. I don't think Notre Dame and Michigan are serious threats to land Peat, but the Peats do have Upper Midwest ties. Andrus' father, Todd Peat played high school football in the Upper Midwest, and his college football at Northern Illinois.

Per Rivals, 2013 Lake Travis WR Dannon Cavil was offered by Clemson OC Chad Morris. Chad Morris was previously the head coach at Lake Travis. I anticipate this will be the first of many big time offers for Cavil. Cavil could become the most heavily recruited Lake Travis player since Garrett Gilbert.

You have to like Texas' chances given the proximity and Cavil's legacy status. Dannon is of course the nephew of Longhorn Legend Kwame Cavil. It'll be interesting to see if Dannon is invited to one of the Junior Days. The size, speed and film are there for a Texas offer.

Yes I realize Lake Travis is a system offense. That is certainly a concern with QBs, but not with running backs and wide receivers.
