After saying he had had no plans to attend summer camps, the state's #1 prospect, TE Ricky Seals-Jones of Sealy, showed up in Austin today to work out with the other prospects like QB Tyrone Swoopes. Not sure if he'll be staying on campus overnight, but this is likely a good indicator of his feelings for UT.

Wow! Great news Floss. A'Shawn Robinson, Seal - Jones and Tyrone Swoopes working out together on the 40. Hopefully bonds will form. It's all speculation, but maybe Eric erson suggested to Ricky that he take in a couple football camps this summer.

Texas fans have dreamed of a play maker at TE for quite some time. Hopefully 2013 is finally the year that we get one.

Potentially bad news on the Geno Smith front:

    @KippLAdams
    Kipp Adams
St. Pius X Army All-American CB Geno Smth is close to making his commitment. #Auburn & #Alabama lead over #NotreDame #Tennessee & #Texas.

Kipp Adams is a Rivals recruiting reporter for their Georgia affiliate. If Smith is nearing a decision before even visiting Texas, that doesn't bode well for the Longhorns.

In my opinion, if Smith commits elsewhere, Coach Akina should offer Colin Blake.

I was just about to post this, Bill. Good stuff.

What a weird turn of events if true. Dude was pretty hyped to visit Austin this summer. I'm not sure how much to read into this tweet since the guy works for a Georgia site and UGA isn't in the race at all.

I've seen similar posts on Scout affiliate Twitter pages also. The story seems to have legs. I hope it's inaccurate. Obviously, I'd like to see Geno Smith take all of his unofficial visits and then make a decision.

Excellent stuff from Twitter on Ricky Seals - Jones' visit to Texas:

Most of you know Eric erson is Ricky's cousin. Jones told me erson just told him to go to school where he wanted and would be happy

Ricky plays for a AAU team called the Texas Pro. He is a 3/4 forward and they will be playing almost every weekend until July 30th

Good stuff on the Marcell Harris front:

Texas is positioned about as well as possible early on to eventually land Harris. Still open, but 'Horns made a positive impression.

Even though Marcell Harris is a Gator legacy, his dad said he might have made a different decision had he visited Texas (per Gatorbait).

Credit needs to go Coach Akina. Harris and Agholor both had excellent visits to Texas. Where has Mack hid this excellent out of state recruiter for all these years?

Some good news that BFLT will like...Duane Akina and DB Colin Blake of San Antonio Brandeis ended up chatting for a while last night about a future offer. Makes you think those recent rumors about DB Geno Smith have real legs. Blake was supposedly told by Akina that there is one remaining DB slot to fill and he'd be talking with Mack Brown in the next few days about getting him approved for an offer. Blake mentioned in his interview that "burnt orange is good looking color" and he's a aware of the success in the UT secondary over the years. I think a part of him has been waiting on that Texas offer for a while and it feels like he'd pounce on it if given the opportunity. Hopefully we'll see movement on this one by next week.

Very good news TFloss. Blake is a of a player, and one can't discount the pissing in Aggie's Cheerios factor if Blake commits to Texas. They've been pretty confident about Blake for some time. Must be Shermalounger's bedazzled letters of interest.

Agreed I'd like to see some movement on Blake and Texas soon. I have a feeling it's only a matter of time before Blake starts receiving big time national offers. Blake isn't as good as Geno Smith, but he's hardly a consolation prize. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Blake could be the top in state DB by the end of 2011 season.

I haven't seen any news on Geno Smith since the tweets on Tuesday. Hopefully it was just speculation. As much as I like Colin Blake, I want Geno Smith to least make his Texas visit. In fact Connor Brewer tweeted this yesteray:

    @ConnorBrewer7
    Connor Brewer
#THEOPENING with my boys @Cayleb_JonesTx4 @SmithGeno4 @BrianStumpfESPN gunna be an awesome time to play.... And recruit haha

So Texas has one more DB offer left per Akina's conversation with Blake, and Duane is going hard after Nelson Agholor. One has to think that Agholor's offer is as an ATH. My understanding is that Agholor was told by the Texas coaching staff during his visit that he could play both offense and defense. Recruiting Agholor as an athlete is the right move in my opinion. He's indicated in a few interviews that he enjoys playing wide receiver the most.

Wow scholarships are tight. 20 - 21 is now a very plausible maximum class size for 2012. If you break it down, Brooks, Agholor, Peat, Theus, Geno Smith and Torshiro Davis hold committable offers and are still actively being pursued by the Texas staff. If they all committed that would take the class up to a still relatively small 23.

To clarify: I have no idea what The Opening is, but Brian Stumpf is ESPN Rise’s Director of Football Events. I assume it’s some kind of combine or camp that Connor Brewer, Cayleb Jones and Geno Smith will all be attending. Good to hear Connor is working on Geno Smith. It’s hard to argue with Connor’s recruiting results thus far.

We'll see how much of a "package deal" he is with his buddies now that his favorite school has offered. LSU or Baylor.
For the record TFloss, none of Javonte's teammates have offers from Baylor nor will they likely be getting one. Baylor's out of the picture otherwise.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I know that Baylor has been looking at Green and Thomas for some time now without ever offering. I don't know if BU was considering them strictly to get on Magee's good side or if there was a legit interest there. Latest rumors say Magee has soured on Baylor because of pressure to commit early. You have any insight on that?

In reference to your other post, Agholor is a guy that they will recruit until the end no matter what, regardless of scholarship numbers. He's just that good. I'm attaching a highlight reel for those you who've never seen him.

If the staff plans to offer Blake in the next few weeks, that makes me wonder if this is at all related to the recruitment of ATH Daniel Brooks of Rockdale.

I see you're referencing the Recruitocosm article when it comes to Brooks. I don't think it's necessarily the case but that's Jesus' feeling after speaking with one of his sources about DB Colin Blake. It's possible that Blake would commit sooner than Brooks and the staff feels that Blake is equally or more talented a DB. In addition to that, Blake has the size. Who knows...they may try to take both.

The overall problem is it seems like the staff is having trouble making up their mind as far as where to devote those last four or five scholarships. One week they want two DBs, the other week they want an ATH and a DB, then it's two OLs and so on. It's really tough to nail down where their heads are at and the drama with DE Torshiro Davis last week speaks to that. They changed their mind on him in a matter of days. All I know is the staff is very concerned with the 85 man limit right now and also want to make sure they have enough wiggle room for 2013.

That's the same thing I've heard.

Leo Thomas has been a candidate for possibly being offered. I don't think Baylor has any real interest in Raphael Green or Prince Eshan.

Wow Floss, that's an extremely fluid situation behind closed doors. I think the staff should take the NFL Draft approach. Rank your targets, and then take the best player available regardless of position. If Texas locks down the last DB spot with Blake or Geno Smith, there aren't any more pressing needs in the 2012 class. Every recruit after that would be a luxury.

The staff should be concerned about the 85 man limit, nobody is leaving the program. It might be time for another round of harsh reality sit downs during fall camp. "You will not play at Texas, you should transfer if you want to play football" is a catch phrase I'd throw out there.

Texas should take a large class in 2013. The 2013 in state class is shaping up to be extremely deep and talented. I don't think we'll see any DLTs or Bluietts in the 2013 class. There's no need to take any reaches given the depth.

I like Blake a lot better than Brooks. Yes Blake has much better size, but corner is already his primary position. Blue chip pure corners are very, very rare in this era of recruiting.

Agreed Agholor should be pursued until the very, very end. Agholor won't come across another recruiter that wants him more than Coach Akina.

Colin Blake is a man on film, plays very physical and covers ground in a hurry. I'm not really sure what kind of coverage skills he has by looking at his highlights.

He looks like he could also be a of a free safety also. I live just down the street from Farris Stadium where Brandeis plays alot of their games, I will go see him live in the fall is he commits to Texas.
