Very interesting thing Kendall Sanders posted on his Facebook.

"For the last few months it's been said that I made a statement that I didnt make...so I think its time that I correct it. I never said that I wouldnt play defense. I said that I would prefer to play offense. I will play whatever the coaches (professionals) think is in my as well as the school's best interest. One more thing I keep being asked why wont I go to UT well that opportunity has not presented itself...."

The post heard around the recruiting world. I have to say, I can respect him for wanting to set the record straight.

Posts like this make me wonder if Sanders is advertising his feelings without directly telling the UT staff. Lots of coaches have Facebook these days as they are allowed to communicate with recruits as much as they want via that avenue. Guys like Duane Akina and Manny Diaz would see this update. It's almost like he's campaigning for himself a bit right now as the summer has almost come and gone and UT hasn't flinched in his recruitment. Maybe he's getting a bit antsy.

Yeah, not sure what the thought process was in this one. If you end up landing a guy like OL Andrus Peat, it will be a moot point. With that said, he's still a Top 100 guy and uber talented. I guess the staff felt like he didn't have OT potential and that's what they're looking for right now.

Agreed shyne. I've been pining for Blake as the next in state DB offer, but only because Sanders seemed unwilling to play DB. It sounds like that has now changed. I hope Coach Akina and Mack give Kendall Sanders a call soon.

Good thoughts Floss. A completely plausible scenario. Akina and Mack should call Sanders possible bluff and offer him solely as a DB.

I'm OK with how the McGee recruitment played out. I think Coach Searels invited him down to make sure he couldn't play OT. Yes it sucks that McGee drove all the way from Texarkana and didn't receive an offer. McGee is a of a center prospect, but ships are tight this year and Texas is looking excellent with Darius James. If Texas gets Darius James as their next center, I'm completely fine with passing on McGee.

Could be time for Texas to move on from Smith. Choose either Sanders (if he's sincere) or Colin Blake and don't look back.

Not sure about that Bill. If UT really wants to make inroads into the southeast, they should pursue the kids they really want, regardless. Even if they're not successful initially, it will show other players that they're serious and willing to put their school up against anyone else's. UT has some selling points that nobody else does, like their own network etc.

Schools that have been successful nationally (Notre Dame, USC) will chase a kid no matter where he is if they think he's a fit. No reason UT can't be one of those schools as well

You make a good point symple, but Geno Smith has cancelled his visit to Texas, and has repeatedly named Auburn and Bama as his favorites. It looks bad for Texas from the outside. Now if Geno Smith and his family were to promise an official visit to Texas during communication with Akina, that would certainly change things.

If the Texas staff is confident that they can get Colin Blake or Kendall Sanders anytime they want them, then by all means, wait out Geno Smith.

The Texas staff is plenty serious about making in roads in the Southeast. They are aggressively recruiting Nelson Agholor, Marcell Harris and Torshiro Davis.

I would never suggest a team blindly pursue a guy if it means they lose out on another. But becoming a regular presence on the trail down here will go a long way, imo, especially with everything UT has to offer.

Would love to see anyone other than Tenn/UF get Harris, so if Geno doesn't work out I hope you guys grab him. (is that the plan, to offer him if Geno goes elsewhere?)

Sorry for the confusion, Marcell Harris is a 2013 recruit. Texas and Florida are said to be the early leaders. Harris and his father visited Texas on June 12th. Harris is a Florida legacy, his father played at UF for Spurrier. However, Mr. Harris had some very kind things to say about Texas.

Texas doesn't offer kids recruits until February of their junior years, but it's almost a certainty that Harris was promised an offer when he visited Texas earlier this month.

Floss, has there been any movement on a new DB offer? Do you think the DB evaluations will go into the season?

Not that I've seen, bud. I was hoping we'd see some movement this week since Duane Akina personally called DB Colin Blake last week to inform him about a possible offer. Like we talked about before, with all of the back-and-forth of trying to figure out where to allocate each scholarship, it's possible the staff is just in wait-and-see mode right now since interest from certain players seems to go up and down every week (i.e. OL Andrus Peat).

    Bill-

Read your comment on the latest Recruitocosm article. With regards to the OL, I think the assumption is being made that you go into each cycle wanting to take at least four OL (kind of like taking at least one QB every year). If a guy like OL Ja'Braylin Thomas is your fifth guy, you almost have to take him. Don't see how you can pass up that guy. He just may not be offered as quickly as the other prospects.

I hope Blake is patient kid because it seems like Texas is jerking him around some. I'd like to see the staff makes a decision and move forward. Evaluating DBs into the season seems more like a plea for more time than than a true evaluation. I'm fine with Texas slow playing Blake, but they better be damn sure they can get him when it's decision time.

It sounds insane that Texas might be slow playing the best DB in the state. Texas clearly missed Blake during the early evaluation period, but that can probably be attributed to the coaching turnover.

Floss do you think Thomas will be invited to a Junior Day? It'd be hard to have Thomas in Austin on one J Days and not offer him, especially if he's ready to commit early. Agreed, you don't pass on a recruit like Ja'Braylin Thomas if you can get him.

The in state OL depth is outstanding in 2013. I don't see the need to go out of state, but you wonder if Coach Searels will want to keep building those OOS bridges. Correct if I'm wrong Floss, but doesn't Shreveport Woodlawn have an excellent 2013 OT? I apologize his name escapes me at the moment. I wonder if any OOS OLs get serious looks or offers from Texas in 2013.
