I don't know where you were born or raised, or what type of culture you grew up with. And i'm certainly not asking you, or telling you that you should change who you root for. It just seems that, over time, people born and raised in the US wouldn't need to be asked to root for the US.

You seem to identify with Mexican culture and how Mexican's view their Soccer team. It's part of Mexican heritage. It's a source of pride. Yet you claim it's only soccer.

Don't you think being able to cheer for whoever you want is part of being an American? You should celebrate that rather than trying to question. I do think it's only soccer, but like I've said.. I've been doing this for a very long time, and it's really not going to change, nor will it change for Hispanics who were born here. Reacting the way you are reacting really makes me not want to root for the U.S. even more..

You are obviously not the first to "complain" about this and not understand it.. most people throw out racist remarks when they do... just look around this thread. I don't know if you're white, black, or what... if you're not Latino or Hispanic, you probably won't understand why we do it.. and if you're Latino, then something's wrong with you if you don't understand.

Like I just said there are a lot of things that don't really go our way in this country.. like the racism, the immigration laws that keep popping out... and although I understand it... it makes some Latinos not root for the U.S., sometimes it's things like these.. when I'm really being told to root for the U.S. or I'm not loyal..

These are things that are never going to go away..

Look got We pay our taxes, what's the problem? this is nothing more than a soccer game. The only people that think otherwise are US fans who get butthurt that they can't get more fans to support soccer. why don't you guys ever go after Americans who's favorite team is Brasil, or Argentina? It's always Mexicans you gots go after when theres anglo americans out there how don't root for team USA either. How about the US fan group Sam's army with who go to games chanting "Mow My Lawn" you expect us to support that ? gtfo. You guys don't realize that you're only further alienating yourselves with like that. How many times was k thrown around in this very thread?
Lowly Mexico beating Big Bad USA? Mexico has Pummled USA 35 times now while US has only done it what 15 times? So maybe you have it the other way around.

you call us butthurt while posting this?

I'm an American....born 20 minutes from the border. I'm Hispanic and I will NEVER root for Mexico when they play the U.S, yet I fully understand why someone else like me will NEVER root for the U.S. and support Mexico instead.

You already said you don't want to root for the US so i'm not sure it matters how I react to that. Are you going to not root for them even more? Are you going to frown harder when the US scores? I think you're confused. I'm not telling you to root for the US. How can I force something that should happen on its own?

You say it's only about soccer, and then you begin talking about immigration laws that make Mexicans root against the US. With Mexicans it's not just about soccer, it's about pride, especially when it comes to playing the US. It seems that you're not just happy for the Mexican soccer team to win. You take pride in seeing Mexico beat the US. That's fine. But don't be surprised when fellow Americans are bothered by you rooting against the US. And when Mexican parents try to raise their kids to root for a country they've never been to.

Why should it happen on it's own?

When I say Immigration laws, racism, I never say this is how I feel... but I know this is how some Hispanics feel.. what I do know for a fact though is that, the majority of the people rooting for Mexico, do it because they feel it's a better team and it's full of passion, not because they hate the U.S. I really don't take pride in Mexico beating the U.S. (for the what? 4th time?), if anything I just like to brag about it to fans like Worlds_Finest and Scott, and who were talking prior to the game and have been for quite a while before this game, and I don't know if you know this but I'm a fan of the Mexican NT. I'm no different than a San Antonio resident cheering for the Lakers against the Spurs. I say people like you make me not want to cheer for the U.S. because of the aftermath of the game, people telling us we SHOULD root for the U.S., Go back to Mexico, go mow my lawn , the only thing Mexicans are good at...

Really? You really think "pride" would want me to join these "fans" and the U.S. soccer team?

Some of you seem to assume that we only root for Mexico when they play the US when that's not the case. We root for them agaisn't any team they play. If i root for Mexico to beat Brasil that's more than about soccer? If you truly think that you're an idiot sorry. Most of us grew up watching Mexican national team since we were young that's the team we grew up watching. Did you guys even know soccer existed back then? . As far as i remember no one gave a damn about soccer in this country and many still don't. What if i told you to go root for the Lakers instead of the spurs. Or how do you feel about people that weren't born in San Antonio that root for the spurs? It's nothing more than a rivalry and at the end of the day it's nothing more than a sport.

People probably think you should root for the US. And I don't think it's unreasonable for an American to think another American should root for the US.

It makes no sense to try to convert someone though. You can't convince someone to have genuine ties to the national team of a particular country.

Its so ing stupid when people try to say that Mexicans aren't assimilating more than anyone else before. Its the same xenophobic you've heard every ing generation directed that the predominant immigrants of the time.

Its a ing soccer game. Why can't you people just let other people root for who they want to. You would probably talk to a Mexican member of the military if they were rooting for the MNT.

God damn, enjoy the team you want and STFU.

Just think of it this way... most Americans don't support the USMNT, they really don't care for it... include us in that discussion, we just have another team we actually care for. That's all there is to it... there's nothing behind it.

That would never happen with Mexico.
I dont like that it does but tbh it does happen with Mexicans. Most 3rd/4th+ generation Mexicans here in San Antonio could care less about anything Mexico related. For a predominately Hispanic town theres alot of racist insults thrown at 1st/2nd generation Mexicans. All these s' grandparents and great-grandparents must be rolling over in their graves.

You have to remember that a few vatos are set to only be here temporarily. They come to make their money and they're going back after X amount of time to seemingly live like kings back in Mexico. Some mexicans do it every winter, some do it after 5-10 years, others after 10-20 years.

There's obviously a good chunk that does stay, and those are normally the ones that end up embracing the US culture, especially as generations go by.
To feed their families, not to live like kings. From where Im from sons and fathers rotate, working for 1-2 yrs at a time while the others stay back home. Its pretty sad actually you have 14-15 yr olds, not only moving out but coming to a new country to carry the burden of supporting an entire family back home.
