Actually, it was Bielsa that said that.
no worries. Batista just stated "I see Argentina in the finals"
Americ= ed
Actually, it was Bielsa that said that.
"Me veo jugando la final. Tenemos equipo, jugadores, tengo mucha confianza", las palabras de Sergio Batista suenan fuerte.
lol I just read that too... crofl
goddam this is the same idiot that said after game 1:
"things are not going our way"
after game 2:
"we might need a # 9 out there..."
"game 3 vs. CR is our final"
![]()
Somebody have Batista do a drug test ASAP
This should be a good game... go URU
you're so pathetic
the game against germany where he gave a perfect corner for the 1-0 lead (Ayala immediately runs to thank him for the goal), drew numerous fouls while controlling possession, until the coach took him out for a defensive mid (cambiasso) with 20 minutes to play and the team winning 1-0? if messi and tevez disappeared like that right now we'd have 6 points instead of 2.
the copa america 2007 final, where Riquelme was our best player for the tournament (we wont be getting to the final this year, btw), and brazil was lucky to get goal 5 minutes in that conditioned the rest of the match (btw, cambiasso lost the ball that led to the counter on that one). the one where riquelme hit a shot on the post 5 minutes after that goal, the one where brazil comitted 37 fouls (most of them near midcourt and on riquelme) and argentina had to send its central defenders to header for lack of a forward that could. the one where we had more shots, more possession, more corner kicks, more passes; the one where Messi, Tevez, Mascherano, and Cambiasso were also on the field, but without a man marker like Riquelme was...
if that is disappearing, then what is it that messi does for the NT? when Chile beat us for the first time in history, what was messi doing on the pitch? when bolivia beat us 6-1, where was messi, looking for an electric blanket? some heat rub? how about when we needed to beat Peru and Uruguay to get to the WC, what did he do then? did he make an assist, hit a post, involve himself in a goal?
oh thats right, when Argentina loses with messi as its leader, against teams it has never lost against or in ways that it never has before, it is the coaches fault, but when argentina loses to Germany or Brazil with Riquelme as the leader- even if the team was winning and lost after he was subbed out- its riquelme's fault...
andat having more issue with riquelme being a diva than with ortega being a drunk. Ortega is three thousand times the up Riquelme is. Saying Riquelme was a failure in europe was a ridiculous overstatement, whether you own up to it or not is your problem.
ps: in this post i'm not saying riquelme is better than messi. I'm merely pointing out the ridiculous double standard ElNono is using. just say you dont like Riquelme, no problem. but to call him a failure in europe and blame the 06 WC and 07 CA losses on him is bull , unless you are willing to hold Messi to the same standard.
pps: Cue a DAF86 meltdown for even suggesting that Messi can be compared to Riquelme.
lol
well, to do so would be pretty ridiculous.
I'm glad you got that off your chest...
Messi never asked or acted like he wanted to be the leader of anything. And therein lies the difference. Riquelme always played in the national team (or anywhere else) like he was the owner of the ball. What he says goes, or GTFO. He talked about teammates, and he got coaches fired.
And I didn't say Roman didn't play well that World Cup or Copa America. The problem is that due to his diva at ude, and the fact that he only gives a when the team is built specifically around him, if he dissappears, the team is done. Which is exactly what happened both times. I'm on record saying Batista or whoever would be making the same mistake if they make Argentina Messi-dependent.
Last, I don't excuse Ortega for being a drunk that wasted his talent. He's a up. Likewise, I don't excuse Riquelme for being a pecho frio diva. He is what he is, and if he would've shown the same talent without the stupid at ude, he probably would be 10x the player he is, and succeeded 10x than he did.
And BTW, Messi *will* be held to the same standards in the long run, whatever happens. Even if he didn't ask to lead or if he's not a natural leader. He will be microobserved and everything he does will be dissected. It's the nature of this game.
and lol @ having to bring Messi and Ortega to defend Riquelme's ass...
Chile deserving to be up after the 1st half
Uruguay 1-0... totally undeserved too![]()
1-1... very nice goal from Chile
As a leader, give me Riquelme. Diva or not he is/was a better leader of a team.
As a player, they are different. Messi is way better. But Riquelme at his peak was a damn good player.
The last 10 Argentina had.
About the 2006 WC:
Arg lost to Germany due to stupid subs by Pekerman.
Arg was up 1-0 he subs for........Julio Cruz. LMFAO.
Germany was being kicked out. It was a perfect time to put Messi in there for counterattack, and Pekerman had a brain fart.
And the germans were good, btw. Not trying to take anything away from them.
Anyway, I don't blame Messi. The whole team is playing like right now.
Honestly, I don't know how to fix such a mess, but I'll start by trying Pastore and Higuain as starters instead of Cambiasso and Lavezzi.
Uru-Chi was the least boring game so far in this Cup.
Give me a team. Tired of depending on single players that always want theirs, and when the pressure mounts, don't deliver. We need a team of good players, not bunched up talent.
Chile IMO is the better team so far... they're playing very well
Mexico getting robbed by that linesman
I missed the first 30 minutes but from what i did see it's been boring as . and Marquez lugo is garbage. Out of all the forwards from the Mexican league i can't believe they picked that er.![]()
