I have no damn idea how to work this thing
A little frustrating and obviously not as easy as an iPad, but I am very happy I walked face first into this tablet.
So can you run Microsoft office on there? Is that an app? Also, I don't get the app page when you click on that arrow to bring everything up? It has a facebook icon, but when I tap it, it says I need to download it. Are some of them just on there and not downloaded and if so, how do I delete them and know which apps are actually already pre loaded?
You can't run MS office on there. At the moment the only do ent editing has to be done through Google Docs and I'm not sure how well it works. Some of the apps need to be downloaded but they don't take long. Facebook and the Kindle App come to mind. Kindle app has a lot of good free books so that is a pretty good deal.
There's not many apps available and I've never used an iPad for more than a few minutes but most of the same things should work in the same intuitive manner. At the moment due to the lack of app catalog and doubt for the future of the OS, the tablet will be fairly limited. The email program is OK, the browser is below average, and there aren't THAT many good apps but its far from useless. Use it to browse the web pretty well, use it as an ereader, use it for email, and use it for social networking. , use it to play some movies (there is apparently a good app for media playing but it does cost like 7 or 8 bucks).
I'm hoping for the Android port to come through because Android - to me anyway - just seems 10x better than WebOS and the app catalog is of course much better.
Manny, can you not just drag music and movies into the thing that already comes pre loaded (music player & pic/video viewer)?
Also, you said Amazon streaming worked. Was that an app, or just you going to their website and doing like you would on a laptop?
What I was talking about with the Facebook app was that as soon as I opened the box, the facebook app was on there, but it wasn't actually downloaded. I want to delete it, but I cant?
Its just a shortcut to download the app. Its not the app itself.
You can drag and drop when you have it connected via USB I think. I have not done so, yet. Yes, all the videos I've watched - amazon, xfinity, and hbogo - have all been via the browser.

I have The Dark Knight in ITunes and have it on my desktop as an MP4, but when I connect with the USB cord and I try to drag and drop I can't find it on my pad?
I mean, I can see it when I go to my computer and open up the HP Pad. I see the file in there. But when I unplug, I don't see it anywhere on my pad to watch.
Nevermind, it looks like I figured it out. It is definitely not intuitive. When I did the drag and drop the first time, it was in the file like I said, but not locatable on my pad once unplugged. It looks like it sent it somewhere where I couldn't access it, so I had to move it to a folder I knew where it was (I choose wallpapers) and it was in there.
I am having trouble moving it out of there and into a folder I created called "movies" though. I am finding it difficult to move things like that around or to delete items.
Edit: I don't have it figured out. I see the poster art for the movies and it says the run time, but when I go to play it, it says "0:00" for the run time and there is nothing. Sigh.

Not complaining BTW, just letting people know. I am having a lot of fun with this thing and I don't have buyers remorse because the investment was so low
the stock video app probably can't play the codec or something- I have a few digital copies from bluray combo packs I should try to move over and play
n/m is encrypted - I guess its DRM. Thats likely why your file won't play on the touchpad. Has nothing to do with the TP but rather your video file's DRM.
Have you tried the photos and videos application? The to doesn't have a file manager unless you install internals through preware

Ya, that's were I have it now. I tried to put an mp4 version of dark knight, which I see it in the photos and vid app, but when I press play, nothing. However, this was copied f my iTunes onto my desktop then dragged into my tablet, is that the issue?
Somewhat. Where did that file come from? If it was purchased through iTunes then it will only play in certain places because it likely has DRM which is file protection that prevents the file from being copied and played everywhere.
Do you have Format Factory?
I think it should be able to convert to different smartphones/tablet formats

Yes, I believe that this is the case. It seems that once something touches iTunes, it becomes all but unusable otherwise.
Maybe for DRM's video purchased from iTunes, but otherwise patently false.
try tunebite on the file. not sure if there is a free version though.
Thats at the point where I just download a version I know will work off a torrent site. Especially if you already own a copy. I HATE messing around with video file conversion because its usually time consuming as .
