yeah he kinda turned the game around when he finally got to play. it should help gilbert out a lot to have a decent running game, and they can actually effectively run play action. i am just worried this will be a selvin young type situation where fozzy starts every game for no reason.

I don't think it matters if Fozzy starts as long as MB gets his share of carries. In other words, play Malcolm both halves please.

Landon Collins sorting through final five
UA All-American says Bama and LSU are top two, but he still talks about Texas offer

    Newberg By Jamie Newberg
    ESPN Recruiting

Rain couldn't slow down Under Armour All-American Landon Collins on the field as he led Geismar (La.) Dutchtown to a 32-8 win over rival Lutcher on Friday. Off it, though, it kept the four-star safety grounded.

"It was a lot of fun because we had all that rain," said Collins, who is No. 19 in the ESPNU 150. "It rained for three or four straight days. I rushed the ball seven times for 94 yards and two touchdowns. I had five or six tackles and an interception. I am playing both ways this season and I love it. People can't believe that I don't get tired out there. But getting the chance to play on both sides of the ball was extra motivation for me this offseason. Now I take a pounding playing running back but I also give it right back."

After the game, though, he stayed home because of the weather instead of hitting the road for an unofficial visit.

"I wanted to go to the LSU game but I watched them on TV," he said. "I saw Alabama and Florida. I watched the Miami-Maryland game. Auburn was supposed to lose that game to Utah State but they came back. I love watching ball. I was born into it. My dad and uncle played, and my mom and stepmom are both athletes. I love football."

Collins, who has offers from most of the nation's top programs, has things narrowed down to five schools: LSU, Alabama, Florida, Texas and Tennessee.

"It is pretty much down to those five but someone could end up sneaking in," Collins said. "I spoke to Cal for a while the other day, and they were telling me how they are losing four defensive backs. I can step right in there and play."

While playing time is important to Collins, he's not afraid of compe ion. If he has to earn the job, he's prepared to do just that.

"I am determined that when I get to college I will work my butt off," Collins said. "I will earn my playing time. The trust in the coaches is important, too. I have to believe in them. And I have to feel like home. Academics is a must because I have to leave with a degree."

While he could have had his choice of schools, Texas offering him a scholarship seems to have made a big impression.

"I have to admit that I am still shocked by that," Collins said. "First, I can't believe that Texas offered me. But they have come out to watch me practice. They want me. They are recruiting me. They have all that talent in that state and they want me. I have been out there twice, and Texas is a big place. We have gotten lost twice."

While he has not set up an official visit to Texas, Collins said he has set up official visits to LSU (Oct. 8) and Alabama (Nov. 4).

"Those two are my top two right now," Collins said. "I am trying to reach the Florida coaches to set up that visit. Maybe I will go for the FSU game. I haven't set up a Tennessee visit and I need to look at the Texas schedule."

Collins plans to announce his decision during the Under Armour All-America Game in January on ESPN.

What happened to tfloss and this topic
I'm here, bud. I've been out of town since last Tuesday and just got back in last night. I've had zero Internet service so I'm catching up on everything myself. I'm going through the thread to see what I should post and what I shouldn't, but I may do a comprehensive review to make sure we're all on the same page. Recruiting has really heated up since the fall evaluation period began last Thursday on September 1st. Hope everyone has been doing well.

Heard the Rice game was pretty mediocre and Gilbert looked a tad better, but not much. The next two games are going to be huge for his future at UT. BYU could give him fits if they go zone coverage. From what I've read, sounds like the classes of 2010 and 2011 are going to get more and more playing time as the year goes on. The young bucks are simply more talented than the upperclassmen and playing 18 true freshmen against Rice speaks volumes. Like Manny Diaz has said, you're always preparing for next year's team.

Anyway, I'll continue to read and see what I can find.

    indeed.

unfortunately, i think collins is a pipe dream, sounds like lip service b/c he is very appreciative of getting texas offer, but i can't imagine under any scenario him coming to texas.

with agholor sounds like we are very much in it though.

these guys are both athletic freaks.

A good portion of this will be old news, but I decided to just post everything that's happened since I left town to make sure we're all on the same page. Recruiting has heated up big time so there are lots of details to cover. We're finally through that acious summer and info will be constant from this point on. Here's to hoping UT has a little more fire against BYU on Saturday than they did against Rice...

**It's official that QB Connor Wood has left the team and transferred to Colorado. News came down last week and it's been an inevitable storyline for quite some time. After being passed up by freshman QB David Ash (who already received some time against Rice), the writing on the wall was even more visible. Good luck to Wood in the Pac-12.

**DB Justin Thomas of West Orange-Stark committed to Utah on Thursday, August 25th despite wanting to follow in his cousin's footsteps and play for the Longhorns. Turns out there was a bit of drama with JT in recent weeks as it was discovered that he lied about his age and is now too old to play high school sports according to UIL rules. He'll turn 20 this September. He was a longshot to get offered by UT with other potential DBs deemed priorities ahead of him on the recruiting board, but this has likely sealed his fate that he'll never see Austin. Thanks to Pop for the link:

    http://www.beaumontenterprise.com/sp...#ixzz1WWUPkMN3

**Another DB is off the board now as DB Colin Blake of San Antonio Brandeis committed to Texas A&M after his official visit to College Station this weekend for the SMU game. I don't think it's a secret that he did favor UT above others, but he was only willing to wait so long before committing elsewhere. I think the Horns would still have a shot if they extended an offer at some point this season, but Blake's father is very much behind his A&M commitment and Blake himself is a fan of the SEC move.

Just a brief rundown on who Texas is looking at for that one (or two) remaining DB spots:

ATH, Nelson Agholor, Berkeley Prep (Tampa, FL)
ATH, Corey Coleman, Richardson Pearce **committed to Baylor
    ATH, Kendall Sanders, Athens
DB, Colin Blake, San Antonio Brandeis **committed to Texas A&M
DB, Landon Collins, Dutchtown (Geismar, LA)

**One of the first calls the staff made after the opening of the fall evalution period on September 1st was by Darrell Wyatt to ATH Corey Coleman of Richardson Pearce. It's my opinion that Coleman has the highest chance of being the next UT offer. Here's a quote from him:

“I would be interested (in Texas if they offered), but I don’t know yet,” he said.

I also think he would switch his commitment with a UT offer. He's friends with several 2012 UT verbals, notably WR Cayleb Jones, and has participated in several camps and combines throughout the summer with those guys. If Will Muschamp hadn't left for Florida, he's probably already in the mix.

**It looks like the UT staff is still in touch with JUCO DE Denico Autry of East Mississippi CC. Bo Davis called his coach yesterday morning to check in. Just a reminder that Davis has recruited this school multiple times in the past when working for Alabama and has a good relationship with their coach. I hope UT gives this one a shot as DE Torshiro Davis of Shreveport Woodlawn looks like a longshot and the Longhorns still need a speed rusher in this 2012 class. Some quotes from Autry should surface this weekend. If he does end up taking an official visit to Austin, it would likely be in December after the JUCO season comes to an end.

**Not much going on with OL Andrus Peat of Tempe, AZ. He recently approached his folks about taking an official visit to UT and it's essentially a certainty that he will make a return trip to Austin outside of an early commitment to another school. Peat's relationship with Stacy Searels, early playing time, offensive scheme and academics are a few factors that give UT a great shot. An October 6th-8th official visit to Nebraska is the only one he has set in stone right now as that's Ohio State weekend in Lincoln. It's going to be tough for any school not named Nebraska to pull Peat away from his older brother. Florida State is the other school being mentioned as getting a definite visit at this time. Other than his official to Nebraska, it looks like the remaining visits will have to wait until the end of his high school season. He will be playing in the 2012 Under Armour All-American Game in January and that's great news for the Longhorns if he's uncommitted at that time. Lots of UT commitments will be there and in his ear about his future. I'll leave you with some quotes from Peat's father. Even though the last quote sounds promising, I'm not sure his parents are crazy about the idea of their boys attending separate schools.

"One thing I've learned in all my years of playing, you have to be a good fit on certain offenses and defenses," Mr. Peat said. "I have tried to evaluate my boys' skill sets, see what they need to improve on and where they'll fit."

"I think it's going to be, in the end, with whatever university makes the case in in-home visits that Andrus can just be part of the university," Mr. Peat said. "That's what made the difference with Todd, that's what will make the difference with Andrus. I want boys to go to the place with best opportunity to reach their goals and get a great education."

"I'm confident he'll figure that out and we'll support him 100 percent wherever he goes. His brother has said the same thing, that he'll support Andrus wherever he goes."

**I don't trust that five-star DB Landon Collins of Geismar, LA is going anywhere other than the SEC, but he still says he wants to make an official visit to Austin. He's currently trying to set up an official to Florida and he's already has two others to LSU (November 25th vs. Arkansas) and Alabama (November 5th vs. LSU) scheduled. Like Peat, he will also play in the 2012 Under Armour All-American Game and wants to make his commitment in Orlando because the game falls on his birthday. Here are some recent quotes from him about UT:

"I'm trying to pick a good game for Texas (for an official visit)," Collins said.

"I just know they (Texas) have a chance at the BCS every year. Plus they have great acadmics over there," Collins said. "They have one of the top academic setups for their players. And their classes I want to major in, broadcast, are top notch. They've got the ESPN center and things like that that I could learn from."

"It's not hard at all (to pull him away from LSU). I just have to have trust in the coaches, like the coaches," Collins said. "If they can make it feel like home, do that and you have a great chance of getting me. My parents and the people close to me have always told me, 'Wherever you go, we'll follow you.'"

**The following is a list of unofficial visitors who made a trip to Austin for last weekend's match-up with Rice:

    RB, Johnathan Gray, Aledo
    WR, Cayleb Jones, Austin High
OL, Camrhon Hughes, Killeen Harker Heights
    DE, Hassan Ridgeway, Mansfield
DB, Kevin Vaccaro, Brownwood **rumor of UT offering a grayshirt
    ATH, Orlando Thomas, Copperas Cove
    ----------------------------------------
    WR, Jake Oliver, Dallas Jesuit
OL, Darius James, Killeen Harker Heights
    OL/DL, Jake Raulerson, Celina
    LB, Paul Whitmill, Bastrop
LB/DB, Naashon Hughes, Killeen Harker Heights **brother of Camrhon Hughes
    DB, Antwuan Davis, Bastrop

**The following is the current list of unofficial visitors who will be in Austin for the BYU game tomorrow night. We will know more about who attended the game early next week, but four big-name visitors so far:

ATH, Daniel Brooks, Rockdale **committed to Oklahoma
    ----------------------------------------
    QB, Chris Johnson, Bryan
    QB, Tyrone Swoopes, Whitewright
OL/DL, A'Shawn Robinson, FW Arlington Heights

Some more notes on the 2013 class:

**Turns out WR Jake Oliver of Dallas Jesuit has some connections to Texas that weren't previously known about. Oliver's father has known Darrell Wyatt for quite some time and they have a good relationship. Oliver's father also coached UT's strength and conditioning coach, Bennie Wylie, at Sam Houston State. Texas A&M is the clear favorite here with his father playing for the Aggies in the 80s, but Oliver is giving UT a fair shake and he will be offered come February if he's still uncommitted at that time. He's mentioned he grew up a fan of both UT and A&M.

**OL/DL Jake Raulerson of Celina attended UT's game against Rice and quickly made the drive to College Station for the Ags' game against SMU on Sunday. Raulerson loves him some UT but I think A&M could be a serious player in his recruitment with their move to the SEC and the fact that they may offer his brother who is also in the 2013 class (and won't be highly recruited). He had nothing but good things to say about his visit to Austin but seemed to enjoy the game in Aggieland more as things were "much louder." He is also a lock to be offered in February and may even be the first guy offered by the UT staff.

**DB Antwuan Davis of Bastrop also enjoyed his experience in Austin and mentioned he loved the opportunity to meet Manny Diaz after the game. Luckily for UT, Davis brought stud LB Paul Whitmill along with him. Whitmill has long been considered a lock for OU should they offer, but he did tell Davis after the game that he "really liked this place (Austin)." Davis currently has UT leading in his recruitment above A&M and TCU and will be offered in February. He's already received two hand-written letters from Duane Akina and Bryan Harsin.

**The QB race for 2013 may be a little more interesting than we thought. UT will be hosting two Top 10 prospects in Tyrone Swoopes and Chris Johnson this weekend. Another name in the mix is JT Barrett of Wichita Falls Rider. All three attended camps in Austin this summer and the staff will be doing their homework on each. While I don't agree with this opinion right now, Hook 'Em 24/7 thinks Barrett is the leader for that first QB offer in February. No matter what happens, UT is going to get a stud prospect for this class. I can see them taking a guy like Swoopes as their QB and then offering Barrett as an ATH type a la Orlando Thomas (but keeping him on the offensive side of the ball) while also giving him a shot at QB once he hits campus. Some film on Swoopes and Barrett:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dNN_WZozQM

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxuXjW7Vwbg

Barrett appears to be much quicker and the better passer, but it's hard to argue with Swoopes' ability as he's just nasty. Tough decisions to be made in a few months.

Some injury news that I hadn't seen posted...

**LB Demarco Cobbs is out indefinitely with a broken arm.

**LB Chet Moss is out a few weeks with unspecified back problems and looks to be headed for a redshirt season.

**2013 DT Isaiah Golden of Elysian Fields is out for two to three weeks after having knee surgery to repair a meniscus injury.

**2013 WR Dannon Cavil of San Antonio Madison looks to be out for at least two more weeks with a hamstring injury he suffered before the season began.
