Some recruiting notes courtesy of Hook 'Em 24/7:
**DT Quincy Russell of San Antonio Sam Houston from the 2011 class, who did not qualify for enrollment at UT this past summer, could be available for spring training in 2012. He's currently attending Trinity Valley CC trying to earn enough credits to get another shot with the Longhorns. He successfully completed several credits during the summer and will have enough for an associates degree should he have a great fall semester as well. Having to go the JUCO route temporarily has apparently given Russell a necessary wake-up call as he became a bit lazy towards the end of high school. UT says his scholarship remains on the table and Bo Davis has made it clear that he needs DT reinforcements. If Russell does somehow make it back, chances are high that DT Taylor Bible and/or DT De'Aires Cotton would transfer out of the program.
**Good news on the ATH Corey Coleman front. Darrell Wyatt was in Richardson this weekend to watch him in action. I still think he has the highest chance of being UT's next offer and things continue to move in that direction.
**It's not much, but some quotes from 2013 QB Tyrone Swoopes of Whitewright after his visit to Austin for the BYU game on Saturday:
“I like what they (Texas) do on offense. It’s kind of like what we do (at Whitewright),” he said.
“After the game, we got to go to the locker room and talk with the coaches," he said. "I talked with Coach (Bruce) Chambers, Coach (Bryan) Harsin and Coach (Major) Applewhite a little. Coach Harsin was asking me how I was doing, how our team was doing and stuff like that.”
**Read that 2013 ATH Desmond Mapps of Garland is actually the brother of current UT WR Marquise Goodwin. Unclear at this time if UT will go after Mapps, but it's not a secret that he loves the Longhorns.
**Texas tried to get 2013 stud RB Keith Ford of Cy-Ranch on campus this past weekend for the BYU game, but his schedule didn't allow him to make the trip. He has a tentative trip to Dallas planned for the Texas/OU game in October. I wasn't previously aware of this, but Ford has only lived in Texas for a few years after moving in from Jacksonville, FL. He may go back home if the big programs like Florida and FSU throw out offers.
