Both, tbh. And I haven't had to do much writing at all for either of my majors tbh. As Louie CK puts it, this is thoroughly good.
I am doing an MBA/F and I can see where you are coming from.

    Don't hate. Appreciate.

Besides....I don't rag on your chosen profession...you don't hear me giving you on your choice of squeegee....or which window cleaner to use to wipe down windshields....

and you don't hear me ragging on your choice of corners to do this do you?

How do the prisoners feel about Macs? Can you take a poll tonight while you are doing your "rounds" and find out which of your caged comrades prefer the feminine Mac over the masculine PC? Post your results if you can still walk.

Maybe you should research a little about Macs...and you will find out that...
there is no need for "computer upkeep"...as this would take valuable time away for the work you are trying to accomplish...or from the fun you are having on your Mac...while PC users are "upkeeping"...

This is a big thing that surprises many people when they switch over to Macs...they are pleasantly surprised to find out that things just make sense on a Mac and they are user friendly...

It does not mean that it makes anyone stupid...the statement you made is what is stupid...

it is like saying that you'd rather have a car that breaks down on you regularly and leaves you stranded...because this makes you a "competent" car owner...while those idiots who drive around in dependable cars are doing so because they are too stupid to fix the car....

do you own a mac? if so than you know that the damn itunes has an update every week. No computer upkeep ya neither does windows; just ignore the updates.

you don't have to sit there and "babysit" the computer and answer 20 ing questions....

"are you sure you want to...."

    "do you agree to....."

"are you sure...you want to end this session?"

I would give you or ANYONE on this board....1 week....ONE WEEK...to work with these guys...and

    THEN

you would never speak favorably of them again....you would support the death penalty...and you would question life and you would question your existence....

you would stop being a cop or law enforcement hater....

you would come to see that some people are WORSE than in' animals...you would never UTTER another word against anyone in my field...

    ONE WEEK....

itunes is not Mac-specific. it's its own program that regularly releases updates, much like whichever browser you use such as Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, etc. That's not upkeep.

    Thanks.

But some people can't try something new simply because it is new.

but it is still up keep on the computer regardless if it is mac specific. although my mac wants to run updates also. so that is why i dont understand the mac has no up keep stance. they both require up keep.....

Sounds like were all mixing this whole debate the up. Mac OS is nice and cool for a small sector of consumers and professions. PC server and client based PC's are preferred in the business world. Everyone's perspective is different though. There are some who need that fancy fruity Mac to run straight out the box and all they need to worry about is taking the MasterCard out of the wallet to create a new data plan for Itunes or purchase a new app for convenience. They need that security and hand holding to feel comfort within the bounds of that Apple community that they wont break anything or else back to the repair shop.

Then their are those of us who don't feel like upgrading, updating modifying or troubleshooting is a big deal but a fantastic option to have the ability to configure your own Box whether a Windows OS or Linux or whatever without having to over pay for it either. Their are those of us that do not find it difficult or are not scared to fix a problem or make a modification.

I have a couple of questions:

    1. How many people here have modded a game console? If so why did you do it? Are you a Mac user?

    2. When you consider buying a stereo, do you just buy Bose or some other all in one component? Or do you purchase the individual components to put together the best sounding devices you can get? Are you a Mac user?

    Just curious...

If you aren't a total ing tool, you can alter UAC.

    I don't have to acknowledge .

Again, it requires you to do more than just find out where the pluggy inny thinggy goes.

I'm still waiting for someone to define "upkeep" in terms of PC upkeep. If it's not software, then it must be hardware. Components are components, they all break.

The processors are all manufactured in semiconductor fabs using the same processes. The memory isn't from an alien life form, it's from another fab. The HDD is built at a HDD factory. The monitor is a ing monitor, only 3x the normal going rate and a white plastic cover.

So where's the upkeep on the PC?

I see upkeep as having to make modifications to solve random problems that occur...such as viruses, random driver issues, a slowing performance speed, or other random things that aren't doing what they're supposed to be doing. Not installing 10-second updates (lmfao) or replacing broken monitors.

At least that's what I think the original user of the term meant, but only from memory, did not actually go back and see who whipped out "upkeep" first .

The only reason you would have random driver issues is if you upgraded your hardware or built your own PC and needed to find the updated drivers for the hardware.

I suppose the Mac is like an apartment where all maintenance is covered, but you are restricted in use. A PC would be a home, where you are responsible for the upkeep but you can build it how you like.

I have had driver issues (with my webcam for example), never upgraded my hardware or built my own PC. Simply paid somewhere between $1500-$1800 for a high performance Dell laptop. And I'd like to think I'm relatively smart with my PC use. Most of my use is rather simple and haven't done any tweaking, and I've had roughly 3 annoying ass problems in the 3 years of this computer's life.

I'm not really arguing for either side here, I see pros and cons and can accept either decision (Mac or PC), and think both sides of the argument have exaggerated things.

Basically. Even buying hardware that says "Mac compatible" normally means you won't have to deal with drivers. Most "supported" hardware have drivers built in, including printers/scanners.

The whole mantra of "just works", basically. It also has it's limitations, obviously. Thing is, depends on what you do. I like the convenience of hooking up a printer and having it "just work".

And the driver problem in Windows sometimes shows itself on games. Needing newer drivers for X game to run smoothly. I actually got bit with this the last time I ran XP (a couple of years ago). Machine froze in the middle of the update -> SOL.

MS has done a better job on this with Win7.

playstation (solder the chip + wires), dreamcast (boot disc), and the 360 (flash the firmware). i did it because $60 for a ty game is annoying to find out after you've spent that dough on something you thought would be worth it, plus they're relatively easy to mod. oh and yes, i'm a mac user.

If you need your hand held theough out the process then Mac's are okay I guess. If you ever need to do anything beyond browsing and word processing then I would recommend a PC.

Not to mention PC is infinitely cheaper if you know how to build them.

The problem that I have with most Mac users is that they approach it as a fashion thing.

Oh and one other thing. From the batteries they commissioned for the first iphone all the way through all the ty hardware they use for anything with moving parts. Mac is notorious for cutting corners constantly on hardware.

You can sit there and bash MS and thts fine they deserve a lot of criticism but I could use a linux s etc..

What Mac does not offer is choice and customability. With PC, you have MS, Linux, DFI, Asus, Samsung, Asrock, Kingston, Buffalo, Intel, AMD, and on and on. With Mac the hardware you get is going to be from them and its going to be cut rate. Why? Becaause you are beholden to them.

I personally hate the Mac networking interface and that by itself is enough to drive me off. But i have tried various products of theirs over the years and have consistently had faulty batteries, hard drives and displays.

At least with PC, I have a choice.
