LB Alex De La Torre will also be at the Skyline/Jesuit game tonight along with QB Connor Brewer.
Pretty much all of the guys Texas hired have this kind of structure to their deals. Don't read too much into that. However, Mack does ask for a three year commitment from his staff. I wouldn't worry about it for now as I think UT will manage to keep him for at least one more year. He will see offers from other schools, though.

Damn, DGB is going to play in Army All-American Bowl and not UA game. Although Timothy Cole, Hassan Ridgeway, Nick Jordan are also in Army game; just not near the UT star power as will be at UA game.

Good find, chronic. A bit disappointing but at least the UT coaches can be there while he's in San Antonio.
Big news of the day so far is that DE Mario Edwards of Denton Ryan is leaning towards OU after they completely destroyed UT yesterday in Dallas and Florida State lost their third straight falling to a poor Wake Forest program. He hasn't officiallly decommitted from the 'Noles just yet and still plans to take an official visit to Tallahassee later this season, but here's a quote from Edwards that pretty much sums things up:
"Right now," he said after watching Oklahoma dismantle Texas 55-17 at the Cotton Bowl Saturday, "OU seems like it's the team for me."
More quotes...
"I felt like I jumped a little bit at FSU," Edwards said, "because that was the team I had seen the most."
"Whether he made a bad decision, I don't know," Mario Sr. said, "but when he sat down and started thinking about it, he knew he made his decision a little early.
"I think it's smart for him to look around and see what else is out there."
No word if ATH Corey Coleman of Richardson Pearce made it to the Cotton Bowl yesterday, but he was definitely in Waco last night for Baylor/Iowa State.
More on DE Mario Edwards...
His father told OrangeBloods today that his official visit to UT for the Oklahoma State game next weekend is now up in the air. As of this morning, they are considering making Austin their last official visit of his recruitment. Interpret that how you will but UT will need some luck on their side to get him to campus (especially if he's seriously considering committing to OU soon). One good thing from the game yesterday:
DE Mario Edwards, QB Connor Brewer, WR Cayleb Jones
Feels like we're a distant thirdish right now. Connor and Cayleb can sell Edwards on the future all they want, but Texas got embarrassed yesterday. Not a good sign that he may or may not make his visit during OSU weekend.
Quite the coup if OU gets Edwards. Their recruiting seems to be picking up some momentum right now.
To get pounced like we did was embarrassing and is sure to effect the recruiting landscape for any recruit considering Texas-OU. I sometimes wonder if there is a development issue with the staff on the players. I dont know if im just caught up in the moment of digesting this loss or what, but UT usually finishes in the top 5 in recruiting every year, right? We tend to get the first pick of the recruits coming out of texas, Ou usually gets the 2nd, right? So for OU to look so much better than us yesterday just made me wonder about it. Like i said before, maybe im just a upset fan(towards the loss, not players or coaches) but there is no way we should ever get beat that bad by anyone. How do yall feel?
Nice pic and find Tfloss... I think if we could have pulled that game off we would be in the running for Mario and pics with these guys together would come a dime a dozen. Not so much now.
A new DE for the 2012 class is on the radar per Hook 'Em 24/7:
DE, Jeremy Castro, Vista Murietta (Murietta, CA) (6-1, 240)
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/footbal...-Castro-120298
He considers himself a soft verbal to Washington right now (he committed earlier in the year) and currently has visits to other schools planned. Here's a quote from him about UT calling:
"Yeah when he told me Texas called I was speechless," he said. "They are very particular about who they recruit so that means a lot. I'm supposed to talk with them soon so who knows."
Good news Floss. That's a positive quote from Castro. I watched his film when the news broke and I liked what I saw.
Perhaps my prayers have been answered, and Texas will start recruiting California. OU kicked our ass on Saturday with 2 California studs in Jefferson and Stills.
Some Monday morning chatter from Hook 'Em 24/7...
**Even more on DE Mario Edwards...still no word if he'll visit Texas this weekend for the OSU game and it looks like he will re-schedule for a later date. There was talk yesterday of him "saving the best (Texas) for last" despite OU absolutely thrashing the Horns on Saturday. The remaining officials visits he has scheduled are still LSU on October 22nd and Oklahoma on November 5th. He's yet to schedule a return trip to Tallahassee. Here is another quote from Edwards:
“I told Florida State that I was going to open it up and take other visits,” Edwards said. “They didn’t want me to do it, but I told them I was doing it. Everybody is still on the same playing field. I’m favoring OU a lot, and Texas, but I need to go visit places.”
According to Hook 'Em 24/7's sources, they believe Texas has actually jumped FSU and currently sits second behind OU. The two factors working in UT's favor right now is distance from home and Edwards Sr.'s relationships with Mack Brown and Oscar Giles.
**UT has requested video on a lot of new prospects lately, but it looks like they may be re-visiting a recruitment that hasn't been talked about since this past summer. OL Greg Brantley of Carthage committed to Oklahoma State shortly after UT's June 5th summer camp when he left without an offer, but UT could be calling soon. He's thought to be firmly committed to the Cowboys right now.
**2013 OL/DL A'Shawn Robinson has set up quite a few visits since we talked about him last. He's going to South Bend to see Notre Dame/USC on October 22nd, Eugene for Oregon/USC on November 19th and then on to Baton Rouge for LSU/Arkansas on November 25th. Robinson grew up a fan of USC and says he wouldn't mind the opportunity to go to school outside of Texas, but the Longhorns still look good here.
**ATH Daniel Brooks of Port Lavaca Calhoun did not attend Texas/OU this past Saturday and remains solidly committed to the Sooners. I think this one has been over for some time now and the staff has moved on.
**Speaking of the Brooks recruitment, the Longhorns are still going strong after ATH Daje Johnson of Pflugerville Hendrickson. Although talks with the Johnson family were very productive last Monday night, it is thought that an offer has not been extended quite yet. The family is still declining to talk about what went down. The good news is all the rumors on this recruitment are positive and most believe he will be a Longhorn eventually. Word is the TCU staff is already preparing for him to switch his commitment.
**Another big name the staff is still pursuing is ATH Corey Coleman of Richardson Pearce. Despite passing on the chance to attend the RRR on Saturday after speaking with Darrell Wyatt on multiple occasions last week, thing seem to be developing nicely here. He hasn't really talked about getting an offer from the Horns other than he thought he'd be a Texas commitment right now had Muschamp not left for Florida, but check out this quote:
“We've talked about it and they've told me that I'm probably going to get one and I could possibly be getting one soon,” Coleman said. “I'm sure if I went down there and went to a game, I'd probably get an offer.”
**I'll leave you with some encouraging quotes from 2013 OL/DL Jake Raulerson after he attended Texas/OU on Saturday:
“It's certainly understandable,” Raulerson said. “Texas has some young talent and they're going to be very good in a couple of years. Oklahoma is a great team and they have some veterans – seniors and fifth year seniors who have started for multiple years. I didn't expect it to happen like that, and it wasn't easy to watch, obviously, but it was certainly understandable.”
“It didn't change anything for me at all,” Raulerson said. “Texas has a great program with good coaches and Mack Brown is a great guy.”
Looks like Torshiro Davis WILL be making it to the Texas vs Ok St game this weekend. He was unable to attend the RRR game.
Also good news that it will be an unofficial visit.
Great quotes from Raulerson. Not very many expected the game to be as bad as it was but at least he understands. Also good thing Torshiro didn't make the game, though I personally think we don't have much of a chance with him anyways.
Looks like 2013 ATH Chevoski Collins of Livingston and 2013 LB Brett Wade of Kennedale will be in Austin this weekend as well. We'll put together a visitors list as we get closer to the game on Saturday. 2013 OL Ja'Braylin Thomas of Weimar will definitely be in town.
No new changes to the depth chart for the OSU game other than freshman OL Josh Cochran being listed as the co-starter at LT with senior OL Tray Allen.
TCU has scheduled a press conference tonight for 6 p.m. to make special announcement.
That's some encouraging recruiting news. Much needed on the Monday after an OU loss. The Edwards quotes are interesting. I'm skeptical, but the Edwards don't seem like insincere people.
go ahead and write edwards off, he's going to OU barring an unforeseeable miracle. i was sitting in the same section as the recruits and although he wasn't making a scene of it, he was obviously cheering for OU even amongst all the UT commits, you could see him light clapping and he seemed to be smiling correlating to big sooner plays. by no means was he being disrespectful or making a big scene by cheering loudly or anything of that nature - it was all very subtle and respectful - but nonetheless seemed very obvious he was going for sooner win. actually i'll be surprised if he ends up making official visit at all.
Crazy how things change in one weekend considering we both thought he'd remain with FSU until the end. I guess that's still possible but never did I think UT would lose so badly to OU -AND- FSU would fall to Wake Forest for their third straight loss. Those guys have just fallen apart and Edwards may rethink giving FSU an official visit if they fall to Duke on Saturday.
chronic-
Which recruits did you get a chance to see on Saturday? Did you see Swoopes?
we were trying to guess where swoopes was actually, i'm just not that familiar with his face; everything i've seen of him has pretty much been in pads/helmet. and there was a huge group there with lots of family members. so not certain.
mario edwards was easy to spot b/c he was besides de la torre and i was looking for him. also looked like raulerson was there - the bigger guys were easier to recognize. i'm familiar with toshiro davis and didn't notice him and i would recognize him as i saw him in person before - guessing he was no show.
OL Vadal Alexander of Buford, GA has committed to LSU.
