Some Friday morning updates...
**OL/DL Arik Armstead has two specific dates in mind for his official visit to Austin. He'll be in town on November 19th for Kansas State or he'll be present for banquet weekend in December. That will be a time when most of the current 2012 class will also take their official visits. Always a big recruiting weekend. Armstead spoke with Oscar Giles recently and talks were apparently "very positive." UT is not only recruiting him on the DL (he doesn't want to play offense) but they're also doing everything they can to give him a shot at basketball. Armstead took an official to Notre Dame last weekend and will be in Tuscaloosa on November 5th for Alabama/LSU.
**JUCO OL Donald Hawkins and his team were victorious last night so he will not be making an official visit to UT this weekend. The more likely date will be November 19th for him as well. Shaping up to be a HUGE weekend if WR Dorial Green-Beckham also makes it to Austin. Two five-stars (Armstead, Green-Beckham) and arguably the best JUCO OL in the country on campus at the same time.
**Duane Akina will be making a visit to Mineral Wells this evening to see DB Adrian Colbert in action. If his conversation with the UT track coach is any indication, it sounds like Colbert will be eventually receive an offer from the Longhorns.
**Lastly, ATH Daje Johnson has been keeping in close contact with the UT staff and he spoke with Bryan Harsin last night. Just a reminder that he will be attending the Kansas game tomorrow. According to what was reported, Johnson made it sound like the UT staff may wait a few more weeks before throwing out any additional offers.
West Virginia in, Louisville out (for now):

Green-Beckham smashed the national career receiving yards record last night in his final regular season game. He ended the night with 11 catches, 303 yards and 4 TDs. He currently sits at 98 catches, 1,986 yards and 21 TDs on the season.

I wonder if Mack will be sending a Christmas card to Gunner Kiel
Practice report heading into the Kansas game:

In an exclusive Friday interview with ESPNHS, Green-Beckham said Arkansas and Oklahoma are two schools he has high interest in, while Texas and Auburn are also contenders for his talents.
“Arkansas and Oklahoma are the two schools that are high up in the running. I definitely plan on visiting those two,” said Green-Beckham, who is ranked No. 3 overall in the ESPNU 150. “But I’m still open to considering other schools, too.”

I do not like the sound of that. What is really killing me is that I think that he has it right. OU has done wonders with their receivers in the past few years and Arkansas is looking great with Petrino.
Here's the article:
Just a day after breaking the national career receiving yards mark, Springfield (Mo.) Hillcrest senior Dorial Green-Beckham broke his silence about which schools he is considering amid his intense recruitment.
“Texas and Auburn are also possibilities, but me and my dad have to sit down and talk about those schools. We’ve talked about the negatives and positives and stuff like that, but we’ve still got time to figure out if I want to take visits there as well.”
Texas may have helped its case on Friday. Longhorns coach Mack Brown called Green-Beckham to congratulate him on breaking the record before passing the phone over to wide receivers coach Darrell Wyatt for a short conversation.
A report circulated Wednesday that Green-Beckham would visit Texas on Nov. 19 for the Kansas State game and then travel to Auburn on Nov. 26 for the “Iron Bowl” against Alabama. But Green-Beckham reiterated on Friday that no official visits have been set.
Green-Beckham’s father and coach, John Beckham, also told ESPNHS on Thursday that the Texas and Auburn visits will mostly depend on the availability of his son, who also plans to play basketball this winter after Hillcrest’s football playoff run ends.
Green-Beckham said there are other schools he’s willing to consider and visit among the 30-plus BCS schools that have offered him a scholarship, but he said he wasn’t ready to reveal them at this point.
Green-Beckham has taken two unofficial visits in recent weeks. He saw Arkansas face Auburn on Oct. 8 and Missouri when they faced Iowa State on Oct. 15. Missouri has also been long suspected as one of Green-Beckham’s top schools.
With this news and yet another milestone to his name, Green-Beckham’s recruitment is sure to heat up even more.
Following a 303-yard performance in Thursday’s regular-season finale, Green-Beckham now has 6,109 career receiving yards (and counting), making him the first high school player to tally more than 6,000. An 81-yard touchdown in the first half pushed Green-Beckham ahead of Abram Booty (Evangel Christian/Shreveport, La.) on the all-time career receiving yards list.
Per Hook Em 247, 2012 Mineral Wells S Adrian Colbert was told this morning that Texas is going to offer him.
Thank goodness. Tremendous recruit. Should fly up the rankings. Could be the answer at safety in the 2012 class.
Who are we looking at as Safety (offered and not offered)??
-Landon Collins (offered)
-Adrian Colbert (offered)
??
I think Colbert and Collins are it Mex. Texas would certainly take both. Good shot at landing Colbert. Collins is a long shot, but he'll visit Texas soon.
From Inside Texas:
“They’ll be offering me soon,” he said. “I’m pretty sure they’re offering now, but they’ll be sending the official offer in the mail. So it will probably be this week.”
Once he does receive that offer, the next question is, will he accept it?
“It’s really given me something to think about,” said the Baylor commit. “I’ll have to wait and see. Think it over some. But it’s really going to make me think. It’s not just some other division one school sending in this offer. It’s The University of Texas. It’s the Longhorns. That’s big.”
That's some good quoting.
How good is this kid? What position would he play
My mistake. Daje Johnson doesn't hold a Texas offer. It sounds like Colbert will get an offer next week. Sounds like further offers might have to wait until after the regular season.
Interesting. Jalen Overstreet has been offered.
Surprising to say the least that Overstreet got the offer. If Harsin thinks he can play QB for him, I'm buying. Overstreet would be a good fit to match with Brewer's skill set. Sounds like Jalen will make his official visits and make a decision.
Colbert has already set up his official visit to UT. He will be coming in for banquet weekend on December 9th and 10th. As we've talked about before, HUGE recruiting weekend. The staff will continue to try and get him to Austin before then by inviting him to campus for the remaining home games, but it doesn't look like he'll make it to town before December unless he decides to pass on some Baylor games he already has scheduled. Here are some more quotes from Colbert:
"They haven't offered yet, but I talked to coach Akina this morning and he said they're going to. It will probably be sometime this week," Colbert said. "I got a chance to talk to coach Mack Brown too and he said they're going to offer me."
"It (a Texas offer) will not really change my decision, but it will make me think more about where I want to go," Colbert said. "I'll have to sit down with the family, talk about that more."
"They were just telling me that I would get the best education there as a student athlete because they would give me all the support and help I needed. And they would would let me run track, they have the most DBs in the NFL right now. They have 10 in the NFL right now," Colbert said. "They said they're the most flexible with track and football, and that kind of gets me because I want to do both."
"It's just the whole city of Austin, the whole school is awesome," Colbert said when asked what stands out about Texas.
