They still pull a lot of people. The biggest problem is that, unlike some of the political/NBA forum posters where it's possible they ARE that stupid, Mono and DoK have shown at least a passing knowledge of flawed arguments.
DoKs biggest error was to write inflammatory generalizations about a group of people to which he has limited exposure. At least Mono kept his logic strain to "military don't deserve praise because they've done nothing for me lately".

You've seen enough of my posts in the political forum to know how serious my other shticks are Ln, but this is seriously not trolling. What the US has done in Iraq IS genocide, and its led to me despising the military.
Oh yeah, I despise the assholes that do that too. But I think it lays as much if not more on the civilian leadership that keeps putting us into these wars. Most people in the military are from lower to middle class families, who join for a variety of reasons (travel, patriotism, money, medical, education).

Plus, there's a good amount of variety between the branches themselves. Air Force and Navy mindsets are usually different from Army and Marine. Army guys have it the worst... their quality of life sucks, and then they're sent into a warzone for 12 mos at a time, knowing the next time they leave base they might hit some ordnance, and we don't expect a few of them to crack?

The military is full of idiots, bags, slackers, thieves, liars, etc etc. Just like America.

, the idiot soldiers who are doing this are using the same logic you are. "I've been shot at by three guys now with turbans... it, I'm taking out anyone in a turban because they're all terrorists!"

They're also full of innovators, hard workers, honest, professional, etc. etc. etc. Just like America.

The civilian leadership wouldn't have such an easy time getting us into wars if people weren't so eager to sign up and blindly fight for their country however they're told. That's my whole point. This country glorifies going off to die in a war fought to make some wallets fatter as if it's something heroic when it's a shameful way to die.

Some of them don't even need a reason to "take out" anybody.

I'm pretty sure the guy who threw a puppy off a cliff has never been shot at by a puppy.

He's already disproven this point. If they don't have enough service members they'll just reins ute the draft, or they'll stop-loss their current members. It's not service members who profligate the problem.

Sure, 9/11 brought a lot of people on board. But that was ten years ago... not many people today are saying they joined because of 9/11.

DoK, the kids who are joining today were ing 8 and 9 when 9/11 happened. That's not their big motivator.

And I don't think it's necessarily a shameful way to die. Some people want to defend their country, like myself, but also think that we should stay out of a lot more countries than we're in. I recognize the need for a military, while still doing my part as a citizen to try to change the course we're on. (No luck on that one, obviously.)

The military does do a tremendous amount of good as well. I've sat in on the meetings where they determined Search and Rescue actions after hurricanes. I've been in places where they go out to the local kids and give them medicine and toys. Not to mention my job, which is to try and keep our networks secure from foreign enemies.

As far as getting people to join, retention is at an all-time high, and it's not because people want to shoot other people. It's because the economy sucks, and the military is a way for people to sacrifice to get some chance at moving upward.

The Air Force has cut people three straight years IIRC. Do you think we've stopped doing missions? no, now we just work longer hours. The same is probably happening to the other branches. They're not taking any loads off our backs, they're just stretching us as thin as we can go, to see how far they can go until we break, then maybe throw one more person to us.

Like I said, some people are assholes. Some are psychotics. Some are rapists. Some are bigots and racists. Putting on a uniform doesn't mean you're automatically incapable of evil.

I'm sure you and I both know the logical problems with trying to take the actions of a select few and extrapolating out to the million-plus service members. , by odds alone, there's thousands of assholes and ups in each branch of the military. And probably a good few hundred that are really sick in the head.

No, he probably tortured small animals as a child and needs serious help. But, you refuse to acknowledge that he does not represent the broad base of service members.

When someone says "All the military are idiots," I would expect nothing less. For instance, if someone said "All the cashiers at McDonalds are idiots," I'm sure you'd be up in arms as well.

Yeah what's up with the whole jealous shtick. I'm saying the same things DoK is saying and all three branches basically begged me to join for about 2 or 3 years after high school, until I finally got smart and had someone else pick up and tell them I don't live here anymore.
When someone stalks and attacks a principle, they have underlying reasons.

    Jealousy is the obvious one.
