Not getting my hopes up at all but I'm glad he'll be spending a lot of time with the UT commitments in Austin and then again in Orlando a few weeks later. Some recruiting magic has happened on banquet weekend in the past, so I guess you never know.
Two quick updates...
**Doesn't look like WR Marcus Johnson will be committing right away since he still needs to sit down with Mack Brown and do the whole song and dance to make his offer official. He will receive an in-home visit from UT next week (I'm assuming Major Applewhite) and then he'll attend the team banquet shortly after that. Good news is coming but not quite yet.
**Rumor popping up that ATH Kendall Sanders could commit to UT at, or shortly after, the team banquet. The 2012 US Army All-American Bowl announcement is still an option but he may be changing his tune a little bit. Being around all of the other UT recruits in Austin could cause him to pull the trigger.

Didn't see this posted yet:

The last quote from the Asset: "I don’t think Mack is going anywhere soon, by the way.”
Been taking a break from recruiting stuff during the season but still following periodically. What a crazy season, but I'm jacked for the future.
Does anyone know if the offer to Johnson would be indicative of increasing doubt the staff may have about DGB? To me it's either that or Harsin/Wyatt are really expecting/encouraging a lot of attrition at the position in the form of Darius White and Desean Hales for starters.
I think it has to do with attrition and the lack of playmakers. All we have at WR right now is Shipley. Davis is sucking it up and Goodwin is okay but also a Junior. White will transfer, Hales might as well transfer, John Harris has been on crutches for two months so who knows what's going on with his broken foot, and it's too early for Onyegbule. We just need some playmakers.
You can tell this 2012 class is being built to be an offensive class, which is what we need the most. The 2011 class is great on both sides, this one is excellent on offense, good on defense. Together=National Championship
DGB was a long shot to begin with. I'm surprised they even got an official visit for him, but it was worth a shot. He'll probably stay closer to home.
Good to see you, Whisky.
The offer to Johnson yesterday is said to have nothing to do with how the staff feels about DGB. It's more or less about taking playmakers while they can as Pop referred to. There's a chance DGB visits campus again in January since he'll be in San Antonio for the 2012 US Army All-American Bowl and then Mack and Co. will make an in-home visit with the Beckham family shortly before National Signing Day. The Arkansas folks feel pretty confident but UT won't go down easy.
Looks like OL Andrus Peat could be taking an official visit to UT for the team banquet:
"Yeah, I'm thinking about visiting then. I'll have a better idea later today or tomorrow."
Word is QB Connor Brewer has been in his ear a lot this week and the two could possibly travel together next weekend. Texas is still in the mix.
Big Cigar report. More on Mack, Petersen, etc.

Joe Schad
UCLA inquired about Boise State coach Chris Petersen but the school has been told he will not be a candidate
It looked like Petersen turned down the UCLA job. I'm not sure if it means something, but it's nice that such a fine successor is still on the market.
Guys I'm not one to brag on myself, but I got a mention from Tom Luginbill on Twitter. Pretty cool. I've been watching the guy on ESPN for years.
Interesting stuff.
If Mack does retire as a coach, hopefully he will still be a part of the UT athletic department.
That's pretty sweet. What did he say?
The whole thing about Mack Brown retiring is quite interesting. I would like Petersen as Mack's replacement, that would be the best for the program i think.
Well, Im not one to brag either but I got a mention from billfromlaketravis on twitter. Been following that guy for a year!!
He just commented on Collins very briefly. Basically said Collins to Texas is a stretch, but he is visiting.
Update on DT Javonte Magee...per Baylor's Rivals site via an interview with Magee, UT apparently pulled back on this recruitment about a week ago and there is no visit to Austin in the works. The consensus is Texas knows DT Brandon Moore will be enrolling soon so they're finished at the position.
What happened to Texas is recruiting Magee as a DE? I think this is a mistake if true. Magee is every bit as good as Arik Armstead and lives 80 miles from Austin.
this could be good indication numbers are expected to get tighter with what appears to be some imminent commitments surely to come.
mcgee is obviously good but can't see him being DE long term by any stretch and i'm also not as hot on him as most others. dude does have some power though.
I would attribute it to numbers as well. If you take into consideration that UT has three silent commits right now (Johnson, Moore and Sanders) then you're at 22 commitments. You factor in Hawkins and Colbert and that's 24. I don't know how how high a number the staff intends to go with this class but it's definitely getting tight. Good point by BFLT, though. Maybe the staff backed off for other reasons as well.
Good news: Sanders has committed
Bad news: Joe B is out tomorrow, Malcolm has a knee injury and is questionable.
#20. Awesome addition.
Nice. Sucks about the backs wanted to win this one.
