I've seen comments here and there that De La Torre is secretly one of the best recruiters in the class. Glad he's there to encourage Edwards. I know a couple of the other commitments feel good about UT's chances as well.
Auburn offensive coordinator, Gus Malzahn, is taking a paycut by accepting the Arkansas State job. Remember he was offered $3 million per year to coach Vanderbilt last season and turned it down. I don't know if y'all have seen the video interview of his wife (it's been taken off of YouTube) but she made some interesting comments about the Auburn program and appears to be a nut. I don't think it's a coincidence that his job offers have dried up since that video went viral.

Lots of crazy rumors surrounding the OU program right now. Two of the more detailed posts I've seen and the second bit is supposedly from a current player's father. The last is a tweet from a former OU player who transferred this past spring. We'll see if anything comes of it.
"Major problems in Norman, first off nothing more on Brandon Williams but Carey believes it's just a matter of time before he transfers. James Haynes, Josh Aladenoya have left the team and rumor is also Max Stevenson as well. Some believe that Landry Jones is turning pro and Drew Allen is cleaning out his locker. There has been some rift between some players and position coaches. Also some animosity between Willie Martinez and Bob Stoops. Leadership is a very big problem at OU right now. Travis Lewis hasn't spoken to the media since after the K St game and has also thrown teammates under the bus. And finally Mike Stoops was in Norman today but his chances look slim with Arkansas St leaning towards Malzahn, and Murdock doesn't think any staff changes are coming unless Venables lands a HC job, No local media was allowed at the team banquet."
"Folks, you may not like some of the things you are about to hear but they have to be said. I have a son leaving this program and have many mixed emotions. It has been a tough road and there have been mistakes on both sides of the equation. I will say that from my experience on the inside of the program that there are serious problems in this program. Please don’t attack me as an OU hater because I have a great respect for this program. The (morale) that I have witnessed is one of the lowest that I have seen in a program. This program is seeing an exodus because the people in charge of this program have forgotten that they have to be able to inspire those around them. The truly great coaches and programs have this ability and it pays great dividends. Yes, the players have a responsibility, but it still requires inspiration. As far as my son goes, I had never seen him have any problems until he arived at OU. It is a tough amd new environment but something went really wrong and unfortunately we may never know what it was. For those that will disagree, the proof will be in the pudding. It always plays out in the end. We wish you the best of luck and hopefully this program can return to the program that we thought it was. P.S. Some of your coaches are not who you think they are."
"Looks to me that venables is on the chopping block. a poster at sooner fans says he’s getting word that venables is going to be turned in to the admin for abuse charges of some sort. said to be mangino/leach type issues."

With the **** I've been hearing. I'm Blessed and Thankful God told me to leave OU when he did. Doesn't surprise me though. All about the $
You have to wonder how much stock DGB and Mario put into rumors like that. I know the parents talk. There is one player on OU's roster from Denton Ryan, junior fullback Joel Ossom. Something tells me Mario Sr. knows some OU players' parents given the proximity and through his connections from being a high school football coach.
OU has 3 players on their roster from Missouri. I haven't the slightest idea if they know Coach Beckham. Regardless, it's a good time for serious dissension rumors in the OU program.
I really feel like Texas is in the driver's seat to land both DGB and Super Mario and become arguably one of the best classes ever. Yeah i know that im a Texas fan and im supposed to be optimistic about this dream situation, but this dream is looking more real everyday.
With the rumored turmoil in oklahoma (which i believe is our strongest compe ion) seemingly about to explode unto the public makes for perfect timing. With DGB and Mario's father's both being coaches, they know the importance of a unified team with good relationships between players and coaching staffs. They also know how a bad accordance effects the success of a team. The cancer of that turmoil can be very disruptive and long lived. Texas at the moment seems to have the complete opposite situation going on, a young talented group, with a strong class coming in and family chemistry among players and coaches.
With DLT helping to recruit Mario, Mario saying that he wanted to be closer to home and start his own legacy, and the comradery that he and the commits shared is enough reason for me to be pretty excited. Texas also has the #1 recruiting class as well and i dont want to leave out how appealing that may be to Mario and DGB to come in and help solidify the class and possibly be the best recruited class ever.
I really wish DGB could have been in Austin for the banquet weekend but at least he wont be at oklahoma this weekend either. I think one of our advantages with DGB is the relationships between his father and the coaches, and our sincere family environment. I also think proximity is in our favor. Yeah Missouri and Arkansas are closer but as a conference Texas provides the best chance for the family to catch home and away games. All of Texas' conference away games will be much closer than the SEC away games for Arkansas and Missouri. The family always talks about proximity, well if u include that variable then the proximity value evens out if not completely falls in our favor.
Both Chet Moss and DLT have been important in their classes, but neither will likely see the field.
Also, according to Rivals, Andrus Peat's top 4 is now Nebraska, Stanford, FSU, and USC. Might as well commit to Nebraska already, we know he's not going anywhere else.
Just read that A&M is keeping Williams. Not sure who else they retain.
There's definitely some great vibes right now. Luckily UT possesses some of the best recruiting closers in the country (notably Brown). He'll save his in-home visits with those two for the perfect time. It sucks that National Signing Day is still about six weeks away.
Just read a tweet that Demarco Cobbs tried to fight Darius White this weekend for negative recruiting. Any truth to this. I think it was recruitocosm.
Heres the small article written about the negative recruiting from Darius.

Considering how much I love Agholor and have been deeply upset we haven't gotten him back on campus yet, I was not happy to see this update...

Agholor will visit Oklahoma this weekend
December, 14, 2011 Dec 14, 5:15PM ET
ESPNU 150 athlete Nelson Agholor (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep) confirmed on his Twitter account that he will visit Oklahoma this weekend.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound senior took official visits to Florida last weekend and Notre Dame in October.
I believe it was already stated DGB and Edwards may not make it. I certainly hope that is the case.
OU football: Sooners have big recruiting weekend scheduled

Excerpts from the article --
Four of the top 12 players in the Rivals 250 — three uncommitted and one committed elsewhere (for now) — are expected to be in Norman for the weekend.
Seven commitments are also scheduled to be in town, as are several other key recruits.
“I can't remember anybody bringing in that number of top guys on one weekend,” local Rivals.com recruiting editor Josh McCuistion said. "Texas or Alabama, neither of them have brought in four five-star guys this entire year, much less on a weekend. If nothing else, with all the transfer rumors swirling, it might be a bit of good news for OU.”
The top players who are expected to visit this weekend include wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham of Springfield (Mo.) Hillcrest, defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. of Denton (Texas) Ryan, wide receiver Stefon Diggs of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Olney, Md., and wide receiver Nelson Agholor of Berkely Prep in Tampa, Fla.
Edwards is committed to Florida State but has been exploring his options since October.
McCuistion said he didn't expect any of those players, though, to make quick decisions following their weekend visits.
Edwards, in particular, has a January visit to Florida State scheduled.
“There's always rumors about Dorial but for him to come down, get swept up in things and commit doesn't sit with what they've done so far. If he does come, it won't be with his father and I can't imagine him making any decision until he gets a chance to talk through it with him.” Green-Beckham, the top player on the Rivals list, is strongly considering Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas.

Any info on DGB and his interest still in texas i know orangebloods.com said that mack was doing a in home visit with dorial last wednesday
Carter Strickland (3:07PM)
DGB is probably going to go somewhere closer to home. Texas has signed four wide receivers in anticipation that they will not get DGB. But they will make room for him if he has interest. One positive is that DGB has not had an official to OU and that was one of his top schools. Whether he takes one or not is still a question.

JC (Houston, TX)
Two parter...What are the chances Mario Edwards after enjoying his trip to Austin actually commits to the horns? Also, with the horns at 25 commits how many commits can the horns finish with?
Carter Strickland (3:09 PM)
I think any time you get a recruit to put your helmet on and pose for a photo, that is a good thing. Texas is going to have room for 28-29 guys in this class. They are targeting four top guys right now and could add all four of they wanted to. Whether they get them is another matter altogether.

Jim (TX)
any update on armstead
Carter Strickland (3:15PM)
Don't think this is going to happen for Texas. There is always a chance but he is not a guy Texas is counting on right now.

Tom (Texas)
what are Texas' chances with Williams, Peat, DGB, Armstead, Collins, and Agholor?
Carter Strickland (3:28PM)
Well they have chances with all of them with Edwards being the top one. I think he had a good official and it will come down to UT or OU. Right now UT may have the slight edge but he still has an official set up for OU. The other three I would say are possible but not very likely.

Sam (Austin)
What is the likelihood that Brewer redshirts this year?
Carter Stricklands (3:29PM)
I don't think it will happen unless Case has an incredible bowl game and then an outstanding spring. Brewer is being sold on the fact that he can come in right away and play. Maybe not full time but at least have a chance to play.
TE Blaine Irby just said in a press conference that he will NOT be coming back next year. He is a senior this year but many thought that he would come back because he would most likely be granted a medical red shirt. Well, he just announced that he will not be coming back.
Couple quotes:
"I've got to be smart about it. I want to be healthy for a long time."
"It's in my best interest."
In addition to Irby leaving, DE Dravannti Johnson has also opted to not return to UT. He just graduated and said he'd like to use his last year of eligibility at a school that can provide more playing time. I assume he'll go to a 1AA school like Sam Houston State or Lamar. That's the sixth guy this week that will not return for 2012 and more are likely to come. What did we say a while back? Between 10 and 15?

Update on the JUCO guys...both OL Donald Hawkins and DT Brandon Moore will be signing their Letters of Intent on December 21st and they plan to be in Austin by January 14th.
I'm going to be in the minority here, but I like that Jeremy Hills is coming back for his 5th year. Somebody has to take the garage time carries, and Hills could be the guy. I am personally proud of how Jeremy has carried himself as a upperclassman. I wish him the best of luck in his final year. He has played his best when given opportunities.

Huge. Both should be starters next season.
Add #7 and #8 to the attrition list...FB Jamison Berryhill and OL Mark Buchanan have decided not to return for their last year of eligibility.
I wanted to see Berryhill come back. Good lead blocker, and tough as bag of nails.
Over 30 guys have applied for the Hawaii job. Some of the names appear to be stiff compe ion, including guys with head coaching experience, NFL experience and much more experience as coordinators. Mack didn't specify if Akina had interviewed in person yet.
Just a gut feeling, but I think Akina will stay at Texas.
