What an exciting time fellas. Texas is sitting pretty to land DGB, and has put themselves in a good position with Mario Edwards. I think we all would have killed for that over the summer.

    This should be fun.

Right now, I have a pretty good feeling about DGB coming to Texas, but Mario could end up anywhere. He's got 5 (probably really only 4) schools on his list, and I would give Texas a 25% chance of landing him.
i'll go out on a limp and say our chances with mario are much greater, i'd say 65%+ with him. when a guy wavers in his commitment as mario has, he usually changes his commitment in the end (clearly he is having massive 2nd thoughts about FSU). he loved his visit and got along with other recruits and accounts were glowing, Texas players really liked him and they all got along. his previous top back-up school OU fell apart in loses, bad locker room vibe reported, and mostly, his quotes about OU were uninspired (i read into his quotes as you all did). and lastly, Texas history of players in NFL on Dline is right up there with DBs - we put Dline starters in NFL. i am extremely optimistic about mario.

DGB i think we are in 2nd behind arky. he obviously likes texas and i love where we stand. but hey, he likes arky as well and he'll want family at games and arky is not a far drive. i can't get past that. throw in negative recruiting towards texas' short-term QB answer that i'm sure ALL other teams are giving him. yes i know down the road who knows how QB role will play out at any school (arky guy is senior next year, landry will likely be gone next year, who knows how brewer will play out) but recruits often just look short-term results on slinging the ball - that is reality.

considering 2 months ago i though both were most likely set for OU, i don't think we could be in a better place with either and i am damn excited along with you all. landing these two would give us what would seem like impossible to pass #1 class this year, and coupled with this years crop of freshmen, the future is looking bright.

IT had discussion with somebody supposedly in the know regarding DGB. they wouldn't name source though so take quote below for what it's worth.

    ----------------------

"I'd say both (Texas/Arky) are sitting in the drivers seat. As far as Texas goes, it's looking good for them. Dorial and his family have been very impressed with the Texas coaches, especially Coach (Darrel) Wyatt. He's been up here a lot and they really like him."

The UT staff has decided to bring in TE Vincent Hobbs of Mesquite Horn for an official visit the same weekend (January 20th-22nd) as the the 2012 commitments who were unable to make the team banquet because of playoffs. I have a hard time seeing a situation where he goes home without an offer so it's safe to assume he's going to be a Longhorn at some point.

    Notes from Hook 'Em 24/7...

**According to a source close to the family of DE Mario Edwards, the official visit to OU "wasn't great." The thought is UT has moved into the top two in that recruitment and FSU is still scheduled to receive the last official visit before National Signing Day. LSU is sort of hanging around but Edwards is not expected to make a trip to Baton Rouge.

**2013 WR Jake Oliver of Dallas Jesuit has been the favorite all season to receive the first offer at his position once Junior Days roll around in February. There are lots of talented, in-state names in that group this year and WR Ra'Shaad Samples has emerged as the next in line to receive an offer from the Horns. For those of you that kept up with his stats, he had an amazing year for Dallas Skyline leading the team in receiving at 65 receptions, 1,369 yards and 19 TDs.

    http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/footbal...Samples-109744

**Lastly, it looks like ATH Daniel Brooks of Port Lavaca Calhoun is questioning his commitment to OU more than ever and will begin to take visits to other schools. There hasn't been any indication that UT is going to attempt to get back in the race but there has been some communication between both sides recently.

I've seen reports that he was the official lead recruiter for Peterson back in the day (not sure if he was), but most give Wyatt credit for getting him to OU. He has pulled his fair share of talent.

About what we thought on Edwards, am I right Floss? I think the FSU visit happens, but I'd like to see him skip the LSU trip. I wonder where the uncertainty is coming from on the LSU side of things?

I saw Ra'Shaad Samples play twice this year in person. The kid can flat out play. His height and weight are going to scare a lot of people, but his speed is good. Samples probably runs around a 4.5. Samples TORCHED LSU bound Jalen Mills in Skyline's playoff game against DeSoto. Tips and I are both in agreement with this, Samples has game. It also doesn't hurt that his father is coaching one of the most talented teams in the state. The Skyline pipeline goes through Austin if the Horns sign Samples.

I don't understand Texas backing off Daniel Brooks. He is right there for the taking. We heard for months that Harsin wanted another utility back, and Brooks was his guy. The article did say Texas had been in contact with Brooks lately. I think if Texas doesn't get serious with Brooks, it's an excellent indicator that they'll Dontre Wilson in 2013.

Just a reminder that the JUCO commitments will be signing with UT tomorrow. Some quotes:

    OL Donald Hawkins

"I'm excited. I'm just ready to be a Longhorn, finally," Hawkins said.

"I had some coaches trying to get me in. They were trying to persuade me not to go (to Texas), crap like that," Hawkins said. "I kept telling him, you're not persuading me with what you're telling me. Why would I leave Texas? They were telling me things, I was like 'What's your point?"

"What made me commit? I'll say it was coach Searels. He's a down to earth guy,. Him and coach (Mack) Brown," Hawkins said. "I think me and coach Searels can bond over the next few years."

"This will be the biggest impact of my career. After Texas, you're either going pro or it's time to step into the real world," Hawkins said. "I can't wait to be in Austin, get a piece of a national championship. Great things are yet to come."

    DT Brandon Moore

"I'm just ready to get it over with, focus on playing football and finishing school at Texas," said Moore, who will move to Austin in mid-January. "It feels good to have this done by New Year's and get ready for school."

"I plan to be part of a dominant defensive line, get back to another championship," Moore said.

"He said I can come in and play right away, be an all-American there," Moore said. "He knows what I can do from being at Alabama. And I know he'll look out for me and put me in the right situations to be successful."

"I would have gone to Stanford if he (Bo Davis) was at Stanford. Anywhere," Moore said. "He's just real. He keeps everything 100 percent. He's not going to sugarcoat, he's going to stay on you tough."

Yep. Things are falling into place as we thought they would if you factor in the rumored problems at OU right now. I don't think it's uncertainty with LSU as much as it is a lack of time to visit them and the interest level isn't as high as with other schools recruiting him. Hopefully LSU won't be involved at all.

I'm wondering what's going on there as well. Texas can probably have Brooks if they pushed hard enough. He's been saying for months that he simply wants UT to make him feel more welcome but he hasn't been hearing enough from them to where he's comfortable decommitting from OU. Then you have ATH Daje Johnson that's just waiting on his Texas offer. It's almost take your pick but there's been a lack of movement on both for some reason.

I think the Edwards is a front runner stuff came out of his interest in LSU. Given Denton's proximity to Norman, he was always going to give the Sooners a look. He seems to have no attachment with the school or relationships with their coaching staff.

Edwards will be Orlando for about a week in December / January for the UA game / practices. That'll tie him for the first 2 days of the contact period January 4th and 5th.

If it comes down to Daje or Brooks, give me Brooks. He has a better build for running back. If the unthinkable happens and there's a rash of injuries in front of Brooks, I'm confident he could handle the feature back duties at Texas.

This is how Texas should recruit. There was no obvious best TE in state. So the coaches waited it out, watched senior film, actually made an evaluation during a recruit's senior year and went with Hobbs. Harsin did a good job recruiting TEs at Boise. If Hobbs is his guy, I can roll with that.

I like all of the Texas commitments getting another opportunity to sell Edwards on being a Longhorn in Orlando before he takes his final one or two visits. With dead period beginning yesterday, December visits are finished for everyone. Assuming his schedule is clear in January, he'll have three weekends to take visits and one of those is reserved for FSU. We'll see how it evolves.

I'm in the same boat. It's the one position where I won't question Harsin since he always had great TE play at Boise. Hobbs can definitely catch and has a good build, but I'd like to see more film that helps you gauge his blocking ability.

I'm surprised nobody has posted this video. Probably the dumbest thing I've ever seen in high school football. I turned off the Cibolo Steele/Spring DeKaney game before it ended so I didn't see this until yesterday. Can't stop laughing. I don't know what the best part is; the chubby dude tripping over himself at the 30 yard line trying to stop the cart or the DeKaney coach doing a barrel roll off of the cart like he's abandoning a runaway stagecoach full of dynamite.

Always good when you have 10 commits playing in the UA game:

    Connor Brewer
    Malcom Brown
    Bryson Echols
    Kennedy Estelle
    Johnathan Gray
    Peter Jinkins
    Cayleb Jones
    Thomas Johnson
    Alex Norman
    Curtis Riser

Also 4 big time Texas targets playing in that game below, although I believe Edwards is only realistic target at this point.

    Nelson Agholor
    Landon Collins
    Mario Edwards
    Andrus Peat
