Not sure how up to date, but link below states Spurs are the 3rd oldest team (I stand corrected) by average age.

    http://slumz.boxden.com/f16/average-...teams-1463132/

The only teams older are the Lakers and Heat.

Both of those teams have superstar players on LARGE market teams in huge cities w/ many more fans, more excitement, different night life, etc.

Both those teams can be older and still attract.
    That's an old calculation.

If you add the age of the most likely 12 man rotation, the average age is 27. It'd drop more if you added the young players that may or may not reside in the 13-15 spots.

For most players it's all about $$$, and that is something the Spurs don't have right now. Teams are throwing that $$$ at players, and offering more than the Spurs. I think that's the major issue here. IMO, it has nothing to do with the city, night life, "no hot chicks," or being a contender. It's all about the Benjamins.

No. Just not enough fund. We already acquired a star few years ago. Richard Jefferson, does it ring a bell?
It was a trade, not a FA.
And spurs were still a contender 2 years ago

The amount of money you have and are willing to throw at the player plays way more into it than nightlife, age of the team, record, etc.

How that's so hard for people to understand is mind numbingly baffling.
Yes. No one would apply the same standards to their own employment that they apply to these players.

Can anyone imagine turning down more money for the myopic reasons that fans project onto their heroes? "What's the matter, don't you want to win?"

Even the Lakers (usually) have to play by these rules.

Count on it. It couldn't just be that he is a toad.

And I love they guy who says we are the oldest team in the league, and then posts a link (out of date) that shows the Spurs as the third oldest team in the league. Earth to Short Bus - the teams that are older are ALL LE CONTENDERS! Funny how that works, huh?

You provided a link yet you don't know ing logic. Looking at that chart, these teams are older:

    Miami 29.67
    Dallas 28.53
    Lakers 29.5
    Denver 28.57
    S.A. 28.31

    They're the 5th oldest team

There's no one-size-fits-all. No doubt some playes don't come here because of the comparitive lack of night life, or because of the money. But:

    1. Whether you can imagine it or not, sometimes players DO play for less money, to have a shot at getting a ring. (Payton and Malone did it to come to the Lakers. LeBron and Bosh just did it in Miami. It happens every season.) When they do that, they pick a team with a really strong chance of winning it all this season. The Spurs are no longer one of those teams.
    2. Some players don't pick where they want to play based on the number of night clubs or ty bars in the city. I know it's hard to believe, but a lot of us "hero worshippers" don't choose our residence that way, either.
    3. The weather? You think the weather is a major factor in deciding where to go? They only have to spend about 70 days per year in the city. And, they are either in the gym or (according to you) in a night club.

And what do the rules have to do with the money? All 30 teams play by the same rules. That doesn't change the fact that the Lakers (for instance) have a $92 Million payroll. They DO throw more money at players than the Spurs can afford. Period. We know that many/most players go wherever the money is. The point is, the ones who don't aren't coming here anymore.

And that's an old list from either last season or the season before.. Spurs are younger by a year this season. 27 years old.

I like San Antonio. I've lived all over the country and everywhere I go people talk about how beautiful it is. It's not "basically Mexico", which is a slightly racist thing to say. I also don't agree with people when they say that the location has nothing to do with a player's decision to sign somewhere. Of course that plays into it. How many high-profile free agents are scrambling to get to Oklahoma City? San Antonio is a relatively small city with very few venues to remain in the spotlight. A lot of NBA players are insanely ego-centric and the small-town feel of San Antonio, or at least the image of it, doesn't appeal to the fame-hungry.
