This was my fear, tbh. If I get it want it to be able to replace my laptop use.
I have pretty much replaced my laptop with my tablet except for full word processing, spreadsheet creation, etc. I say "full" because, I don't mind editing those things above on the tablet, but prefer to create them on my TP. Then again I have a BT keyboard which makes things easier. I only use THAT when taking notes, editing docs, etc.
This was my fear, tbh. If I get it want it to be able to replace my laptop use.
Yeah, my thinking is that now that I'm done school, I really don't use my laptop for anything else except playing music, browsing and checking email. I rarely even create word do ents or spreadsheets when I'm not at work.
Typing would be the only thing I'd have to get used to on a tablet, although I can always but the keyboard/dock for the Transformer Prime. I'll probably wait to try the tablet in store before deciding.
Yeah me too, since I finished school, no heavy use of my PC (except for downloading movies/music), just the basic stuff you have listed.
You can get a 200$ BB Playbook and see if it's you (boxing week price)
If you dont like it you can always return it (although I'm not sure you can return boxing week items)
You can also get the splashtop remote desktop app for $5 and remotely access your laptop to get a full Win7 experience on your tab. It works quite well and is painless to set up. That way you can further relegate your laptop to less duty.
ever since getting out of school, i really never use my ipad. i haven't charged the thing in like 2 months... it's a damn paperweight nowadays but i'm sure sooner or later i'll find a use for it again. when i was going to school i could find a bajillion uses for it.
I'm in the process of putting XRONified on my touchpad. I wanna back up my apps and data and for anium backup it says i need to have a rooted device. Do i have to do something else to "root" it or am I good to go?
Well i got XRONified. I thought it was going to be harder to get it running. It took less than 5 minutes to install. Took longer to actually download the file! I'm restoring my data right now. These developers are smart as .
Dunno if this is the right thread (in fact, I may even be clowned on - I don't know about tablets) but my parents pitched to get me a Kindle Fire for my bday/christmas and this thing seriously kicks some ass. I'm an avid reader so the amount of books alone is nice, but this thing's display, responsiveness and internet speeds are godly.
I hear it's not so great with video compared to most other tablets. You find it that way?
Using the dolphin web browser. Looks like the stock browser was removed. Though I like the gestures with dolphin. Text seems to have a little lag but it could just be me.
I'm not experienced with tablets or their hardware, so I really couldn't give you an answer that was worth a damn. Seems very crisp and clean though, fwiw.
I do know the ipad2 doesn't have flash (yet at least); the kindle does. The videos I've seen have ran beautifully thus far. The fire's display's dimensions are smaller than the ipad2's and I've read conflicting reports about the the anti-glare - amazon and a couple reviews I read say its the best possible glare reduction, others say it's among the worst. Personally it doesn't seem to glare for me unless at a rather absurd angle, one I'd never read at.
Stock was removed, if you look at the thread which has the link in it probably about 5-15 pages back, there is a person named Jzen who recompiled 2.8 without a lot of the "bloat", removed dolphin and added stock browser. I don't really care though because I love Dolphin. I don't use the gestures at all, but I like the way it handles "favorites" (slide to the right) or add-ons (slide to the left). I like the quick dialer, and I like the tabs. I haven't noticed lag, but who knows.
I am glad it is working for you. I believe lee is referring to some of the reviews that said that the video got a little choppy every once in a while (not necessarily flash, but when playing a movie). However, if you are satisfied, great!
I guess its nice to have options. I like dolphin a lot so far. I was having trouble with the WiFi last night and tried restarting the touchpad and running a fee programs to fix it. Nothing seemed to work. So I just turned it off and went to bed. Woke up this morning and turned it on and the WiFi was working. As I was typing a post similar to this it crapped out so I had to boot into webOS to type this. I also have a problem with the keyboard. It seems too small to be. Also I sometimes end up hitting below the space bar and combine words instead of having a space in between. Wish the webOS keyboard was ported over.
Wifi: This really perplexes me. I have read about people having wifi issues on this and the CM7 build, but I have never had such problems. I will say, however, that those complaints have almost ceased with the most recent several builds. Hopefully things shake out for you, try reinstalling (wipe everything of course).
Keyboard: there are a ton of keyboards out there. Try some out. I bought thumb keyboard a while back and that is what I use for this and it works great. Another you might want to try is Go keyboard. I haven't used it, but have heard great things and I use some of Go's other apps because they rock. Another bonus to Go - its free.
I followed that and it seems to have connected. Lets see if it stays connected. Still impressed about these developers and their coding and crap. They are pretty badass.Log into your router's setup and change your channel setup from automatic to a channel below ch. 5. I had wifi connect issues constantly until I did this and now, never. I lock mine down on channel 4. I had tried all of the suggested fixes and none helped.
I noticed this is Android 2.3.7.
What version of Android should tablets run on? I guess the developers are just taking their time and hopfully a tablet version will come out. That way the apps look better and are not the phone version.
Not complaining one bit either.

i will keep it in mind, thanks for clarifying.
Tablets are run off of Honeycomb and (now) Ice Cream sandwich. Unfortunately, the source code for Honeycomb was just released at the same time as ICS so the devs haven't had enough time with either of those yet. They are working on CM9 though and it is getting close to getting released (and is released in an alpha for some phones). Cyanogen himself said, upon the source code for HC and ICS being released, "ICS source code released, see you in two months" I would say that we will have a 4.xx based ROM by the 3rd or 4th week of Jan.
Badass. Can't wait to see it. Wifi seems to be working fine now. Currently using swift keyboard now. Going to look for some more keyboards. Also going to install all he free Apps of the day that I got from the amazon app store. Couldn't have them all on my phone.
With the cyanogenmod running on honeycomb or ics, will that make the apps more tablet friendly?
yes, for android tablets certainly.
Out of the market for a tablet. Bought an expensive watch instead, tbh. Maybe in the summer.
A new xron version was released on the 3rd. I haven't downloaded it yet. Will probably stay with the build I have right now. If I were to update would I just follow the same instructions like I did last tim? Boot into recovery and wipe everything and then unzip.
