As talented as TJ is, you can't be productive if you're miserable. Seems TJ wasn't liking the Texas scene anymore and would have just become a malcontent WR. Better to cut now than deal with that on both ends.
Brewer looks to be a good prospect, but nothing that isn't there year in and out in CFB. We just haven't been getting those guys. They should have gone after Wallace because he's needed now, and if Brewer takes off then just grab two in 2013, try to sell Barrett and Swoopes with Brewer out of the fold or take one of those and evaluate another QB. Wallace and Ash would have had 3 years anyway do plenty of time to develop a 2013 as a RS Sop re before he starts.

I disagree with giving up Brewer for Wallace. There aren't any good juco QB's this year, Wallace just happens to be the best of the mediocre bunch. Find another cam newton and then brewer can go.
Shattering a bunch of JUCO records as a first year player is probably a little bit better than mediocre.
A person I know that is very knowledgeable said Bo Wallace not visiting now because Case McCoy is not transferring. So an offer is no longer imminent. They thought he was leaving for sure and that's why they contacted Wallace.
Brewer has already been told they would ideally redshirt him, so he was not the issue.
Pretty sad we won't take Wallace b/c of McCoy, as he is obviously not the guy, and never will be.
I read the same that it wasn't Brewer. This is why you don't get emotional in the moment as a coach and offer a kid who has no business being D1 because u love his brother and family. Mack ed up royally on that one and now it's handcuffing Harsin.
I don't get it. How does Case handcuff Harsin? If Bo is an upgrade, why wouldn't Harsin go for him? Why would a threat of Case transferring stop that?
There may never be a JUCO quarterback as good as Cam Newton again. Cam wasn't your average JUCO prospect. He was an All-American out of high school who signed and enrolled at Florida. He ended up at Blinn after leaving UF.
Bo Wallace was still a JUCO All-American, rewrote several records and led his team to a championship. And who will be a better college player in 2012? Connor Brewer or Bo Wallace? Connor has a good pedigree, but I doubt he's more ready for NCAA play than Wallace is. And if Case is leaving, which would you rather have compete with Ash for the starting job next season? That's why I say recruiting Wallace was probably what's best for the program.
It's not that I don't want him here, I just don't want to lose Brewer to get him. Ash will be starting anyways. Ideally, Wallace would come and be the backup, Case would transfer, and the two freshman redshirt.
Also, Devante Harris has decommitted from OU (hmmmm....) and DGB's Arkansas visit is up in the air.
Anyone know what's up with Devante Harris and Texas in 247??
DB DeVante Harris of Mesquite Horn has heard from UT since he decommitted from OU, but the staff isn't expected to bring him in for a visit at this point. No reason given as to why. I've seen some reports that he is kin to WR Thomas Johnson and it's funny that both decommitted at the same time and both are expected to visit Oregon.
Most of you have probably figured it out already, but the recruitment of OL/DL Arik Armstead is finished. He is not going to take an official visit to Texas this week and will instead fly straight home to California. He's expected to choose between three West Coast schools; Cal, Oregon and USC.
Update on ATH Bralon Addison...he can be considered as a candidate to take the spot left vacant by WR Thomas Johnson, but he's yet to hear from Texas. Inside Texas spoke with his family yesterday in San Antonio at the Army Bowl and they mentioned that UT was the first choice at the beginning of his recruitment, but the fact that the Horns wanted him as a DB was a turnoff. They said if the staff approached him again with an offer as a WR, he'd be willing to listen.
I agree. If the rumors of him going as far as to badmouth the UT program are true, it's a good thing that he and UT parted ways. It doesn't matter how big or small your program is, it's best for everyone if you rid the team of any chemistry issues. See WR Darius White. Keep an eye on what UT's communication with Dallas Skyline HS looks like from this point forward. Seems like there are some unhappy people on both sides right now because of TJ's recruitment and also WR Mike Davis being an issue this year. 2013 WR Ra'Shaad Samples is in line for an offer at the upcoming Junior Days in February, but I'm interested to see if he'll even show up now with everything going on.
Quotes from 2013 DB Marcell Harris after he visited Texas this week. He says he plans on returning to Austin for a third time next month to get that official scholarship offer in person:
"I went up there (Friday) night. It was pretty cool," Harris said. "Coach (Duane) Akina met with me and we took a little walk around the place. He showed me the weight room and some film rooms and meeting rooms."
"It was cool. Coach Akina, he's a laid back guy," Harris said. "He's from Hawaii so he's got a little swag to him. It was pretty cool. He was just showing me the steps and the process on becoming a Longhorn."
"(Akina) talked to me about their junior day in February sometime, so whenever that is I'll try to head out to it," Harris said. "He said as long as I'm interested in them, they're interested in me and hopefully I'll have an offer in February."
"Texas is a good school. There's a lot of tradition there and they've had some good players," Harris said. "I think two of their safeties are leaving this year so there's opportunity for someone to come in and get a spot."
ATH Kendall Sanders was named MVP of the West squad at the 2012 US Army All-American Bowl yesterday after his 2 INTs. Quotes from him:
"I think I played real well," Sanders said after the game. "I just had fun out there. I wasn't really worried about all that other stuff. I just went out there and played. That's what helped me to play well today."
"I didn't expect this at all. I thought I would just be out there, covering receivers and running around. I didn't think I would have two picks."
"I just came out here and played hard and did what I was supposed to do," he said. "I would say I was at the right spot at the right time. It wasn't just me though. I didn't shut it down by myself. I had help from Shaq (Thompson) and the other corners and we all just played together well."
"I think my speed and my size are my strengths," he said. "Being able to play receiver I can kind of tell the routes and stuff. I have knowledge of the receiver since I play receiver too."
"A little bit," Sanders said, smiling, as to if he was now open to playing on defense in Austin. "Wherever they want to put me, that's where I'm going to go."
"I'll put it like this," he said, "If (Texas defensive back coach Duane) Akina wants to put me on defense, I'm going to defense. If he doesn't, I'm going to stick with wide receiver because I love receiver too."

DGB was named co-MVP of the game yesterday.
Texas isn't considered a real threat to land DE Torshiro Davis, but they're still trying their best. Hook 'Em 24/7 reported yesterday that Bo Davis called after the Army Bowl came to an end last night just to touch base.

Some rumors are swirling around about Johnson and Harris being involved with a street agent. You gotta admit it is pretty su ious how they decommitted at the same time and are both visiting Oregon. There are also a lot of other decommits around the country right now, many of them including Johnson seem to have some sort of relation with this agent. The guys name is Baron Flenory Jr.

Mike Stoops will return to the OU staff this week:

Good article from Recruitocosm last year on Flenory for anyone that needs to get up to speed. Rumors are he got to LB Anthony Wallace last year who ended up at Oregon. Also a Dallas Skyline kid. Might be a good explanation as to why the staff doesn't plan to pursue DB DeVante Harris.

Good quotes from ATH Kendall Sanders on DGB via Hook 'Em 24/7. The two supposedly spent a lot of time together this past week:
“When we'd talk about recruiting, he'd just name off the schools he's still considering but he'd say Texas a little differently and then smile,” Sanders said. “I told him, 'Oh, I know where you're going!' He'd just laugh, and we were having fun, but I feel like we have a shot.”
“Man, DGB is just a great kid,” Sanders said. “He really is. I hope he comes to Texas, and I think we have a good shot, but he's the kind of guy who you want to see succeed no matter where he goes because he's such a great person.”
More on WR Thomas Johnson...turns out he's been talking with Oregon since at least last month and he will be taking his official visit to Eugene this weekend with DB DeVante Harris. He's also looking at visits to Cal, TCU and even Texas A&M.
I share your concerns, bluebell. What if Ash gets hurt next year or doesn't show improvement? What if Case becomes unhappy again? What if a school calls Case and says a spot has opened up? Texas came upon the opportunity they've been waiting for to bolster their QB depth by signing Wallace and they passed.
