He seems pretty concerned about the $130 dollars he spend to upgrade the PC he made the choice to blow up.

I'm also curious what jobs he expects a 15 year old girl with no car or experience to get.
eh, its software. that software can be used elsewhere. Also, I had a job at 14, and paid for 50% of my nintendo at 7 from mowing lawns. Jobs can be had.

All of this has already happened, and none of it would have happened if he didnt upload a video to youtube.

Punishing his daughter is perfectly sensible and acceptable, acting as immature and stupid as his daughter while shooting her laptop when he coulda just given it to charity makes him look like a potentially abusive parent. When people comment "OMG he's gonna kill her!" on the video multiple times social services has no choice.

What is funny is how much the "These kids have it so easy! When I was her age I had to(insert bull story about the hardass parents someone had as a child)!" people are blowing what his daughter did out of proportion. If the worst thing your daughter ever does is about doing chores on facebook, while she gets good grades and stays out of trouble, then you have nothing to complain about as a parent.
It's that kind of thinking that allows punk ass kids to think they can do anything they want without consequence.

Nice job trying to minimize her comments on FB too there buddy, she didn't just complain about chores, she insulted her parents. You allow that behavior then you are allowing a stupid spoiled brat to develop for this world to deal with. As a parent, what social services says and the Dr. Phils of the world have to say. They aren't always right. social services act the way they do because of pussys and media pressure.

He wasn't being a hypocrit either, he basically showed her that she thought she wouldnt get caught, so he showed her friends that she did. Spin it all you want.

I applaud a guy putting stupid teenagers on blast in a world where stupid society promotes letting them get away with murder. Her comments on FB leads to worse behavior in the future, period.

Damn, I really want to debate this, but I have stuff I gotta do. I'll be back on later.

Babysitting is the only thing I see her doing. There are more regulatory agencies and labor laws now than there were whenever you were 14-15, companies don't hire 14-15 year olds anymore.

Your anecdote from however many years about how much work is available to 14-15 year olds is a baby boomer horse and has nothing to do with 14-15 year olds getting a job today. The workforce is completely different and companies don't hire minors like they used to.

My experience getting a job as a minor was more recent than your experience, and I applied for probably 30 jobs from age 15-16. There was either no call back or call backs saying the age minimum is 16 and try again when I turn 16. Then I got a job 2 months after I turned 16. The fact you had a job whenever you were 14 doesn't mean 14 or 15 year olds can easily get a job today.

I am 32. I was 14 in 1994. I am no baby boomer. I worked at the concession stand at my local pool. It wasn't easy and I had to shine above many others who applied for the job. That being said, you provided a great idea for a job. Babysitter. She could also do what I did when I was 7 and on. Mow lawns. I have heard that people also pay for dog walkers. So on and so on and so on.

Edit: Just to clarify, it was a summer job, at under min wage (since I wasn't 16, min wage didn't apply). Despite all of that, and spending money, I was able to save 500 that summer (and a little more the next summer when I worked there again).

If all they do is harmless bull like complain about chores on facebook then by all means they can do "whatever they want" if they get good grades and stay out of trouble.

Parents who harp on re ed stuff like their kids making the bed and cleaning the floor everyday are parents who end up with kids who act up the second their parents aren't around anymore just because they're so anxious to have freedom and rebel.

Nice job trying to minimize her comments on FB too there buddy, she didn't just complain about chores, she insulted her parents.
Holy , time to call Dr. in Phil, a 15 year old teenager said something disrespectful about her parents! This kind of uniquely de able behavior needs to be stopped or she's gonna be a complete failure!

You allow that behavior then you are allowing a stupid spoiled brat to develop for this world to deal with.
If you wanna prevent that behavior then don't buy her all the he says he bought her. She didn't fly out of the womb at birth expecting an ipod, smart phone and laptop, she was raised to expect it. Kids aren't born spoiled. My guess is she's been treated like daddy's little girl her entire life, then step mom says to the dad fix her behavior or this marriage isn't gonna work.

As a parent, what social services says and the Dr. Phils of the world have to say. They aren't always right. social services act the way they do because of pussys and media pressure.
Yeah, educated people who have done tons of research and studies about different parenting techniques! They don't know !

He wasn't being a hypocrit either, he basically showed her that she thought she wouldnt get caught, so he showed her friends that she did. Spin it all you want.
I didn't say he was being a hypocrite, I said it was ironic someone who needed to broadcast the fact he worked in IT looks computer illiterate posting a video on youtube he didn't want to go viral.

I applaud a guy putting stupid teenagers on blast in a world where stupid society promotes letting them get away with murder.

We don't know the full story. For all we know she does babysit when she can. Somehow an 8 minute video her redneck dad made has given people all the information there is to know about this girl

Here comes a response, " I knew girls who at age 15 would stand on the street all night and turn tricks for 50 cents an hour to support their family, then they had a 37 mile walk to school uphill both ways in -25 degree weather "

The "it wasn't easy" remark was in reference to your statement that you had such a hard time getting a job, thus the follow up sentence about the number of applicants, etc. I will readily admit that it was an easy job. It was fun. I got to look at girls in bikinis all day. However, I still had to be responsible with literally zero supervision, so yes the structure did teach me some lessons (or at least give me reps in lessons already learned as is evident by the rest of my antedote).

As far as the second part of your story, you asked what kind of job she should/could get (being 15 and no car). I answered. I am glad that you now agree that she could get a job and realize what kind it is.

Uh oh, here comes the response about how

You answered with a completely uneducated answer based off an example from nearly 20 years ago. The fact you got a job at 14 in 1994 has no bearing whatsoever on today. As a matter of fact, it says something that the best example you can come up with is an example based off your job in 1994.

Babysitting isn't a job. A job is where you get an actual paycheck.

Actually, you were the one who provided a perfectly reasonable job that she could get. You answered your own question. Why do you keep fighting yourself?

If you need confirmation from someone else then Yes, babysitting would be a fine way for her to make some cash.

I hope that puts your mind at rest that you are right, she could find a job and there is at least one kind (there are more, but we will just go with the one you provided at this time).

A job is where you work to get paid. An arbitrary piece of paper doesn't change that.

So when her dad says she needs to get a job and that she's only applied for one job, do you honestly think he was referring to babysitting? I doubt it. Methinks he was referring to an actual job, but keep playing semantics to convince yourself that 15 year olds can easily get jobs in today's economy and w/ today's workforce.

I never said what kind of job I expected anyone to get. I said that jobs can be had. You provided one example, I provided a few others. I used my own antedote to show, not that jobs are easy to get, but to show that there is nothing wrong with working at 14-15 (or 7 as it were).

If you are worried about semantics, what was a job before the advent of checks?
Do you think waiter is a job? what if the really good ones, don't get pay in their checks?

They still get checks. No you're intentionally pretending you don't know what the dad meant by the word job when it was blatantly obvious.

That's where you're wrong. It wasn't just for his kid. It shows all kids to stfu and obey and tells parents to nut up. It's not about being a tough guy, it's about being in charge.
rofl. One can be in charge by simply taking away the laptop, banning further use of Facebook, You-Tube, etc and having a rational face to face discussion with their child as well. Seems to me he's a bit skinny on the conversational front.

lol showing all kids to stfu. I'll decide that criteria for my own if you or he don't mind too terribly.

No, it's just how he resolved this one. And better yet, I hope he whooped her ass when she got home too on top of that.
    Angry much?

Would i have shot the laptop up if it were my daughter? More than likely no, but I applaud him for doing so.
So you applaud an action that you wouldn't take yourself? Makes plenty of sense.

And the way her father resolves issues.

The older generation should avoid social networking sites like the plague. Trying to punish your kid using a youtube video and shooting a laptop because she posted drivel on her facebook page says you are unfit to be a parent in the first place. Some kids rebel, that's never changed. You don't get into the tantrum with them. You let them have their tantrum, then when they settle, you show them the list they were supposed to complete.

When she's old enough to be on her own, she can decide for herself, but if she handles her problems how he handles his, that's not going to go well.

You would think an IT guy would find other ways to keep her off the internet.

You seem really focused on trying to redefine words. A job is a job regardless of if you are paid in currency, a piece of paper with a signature, or gum.

Since you are so worried about context. The context in case you missed it is that the father was upset that she used something that they purchased to complain about them. If she had paid for it, then it may have been different. Are you really trying to tell me that you think that he would have a problem if she was making 200 a week from babysitting as opposed to 200 a week from working a drive through? If so, you obviously have some issues with situational awareness.
