Deuteronomy 21:18-21 says "If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town.All Israel will hear of it and be afraid."

Talk to your children, help them understand what is right and wrong,lead by example, discipline them if needed but no spanking. If this does not work then society will take care of them. Kids need love not fist.

Talk to your children, help them understand calling someone a baldy is wrong,lead by example, discipline them if needed but no spanking. If this does not work then bears will take care of them. Kids need love not bear claws.

the actual act of spanking isn't needed, it's just the most effective way. If you can think of a better way when groundings/time outs or taking their stuff away doesn't work then please share

When she was old enough to understand me, I told her as long as she behaves she can do the stuff she normally does - watch TV, have a small dessert, have a story read to her. If she misbehaves past a count to three warning, I take one of these away at a time. My ex wife has spanked her before, but she always treated her more like a friend who did fun stuff with her - I was the parent who kept her on a regular schedule with a strict bedtime, very few exceptions. Because she is used to her schedule, I never have problems putting her to bed while her mother still struggles with it. I would like to think some of the things I do - like the schedule and/or always trying to give her a choice as to what we do, watch, or eat has contributed to her being such a good child, but I am probably just lucky.

I don't really have anything against spanking, it is just not something I would do at this point. I may have an entirely different view of it if I had a son, though. Do you have children?

See, and that's pretty much the point of spankings. Again, I'm speaking of spankings not beatings. I remember various ass whoopin's but I deserved them. I was an only child for 8 years and boy was I . My Mom tells me of a time I didn't get my way and I threw myself down in the aisle in the middle of some store and cried my eyes out and screamed at the top of my lungs. I'm sure my ass was lit up from that one. No, I'm not "scarred" nor did I get or need any sort of therapy over it. Again, I was spanked and not beat. To be physically bruised is crossing the line and doesn't need to be lumped with spankings.

Did being spanked deter you at all from being a ? I got my share of hard ass spankings but it was little more than a mild deterrent. Unless the metal end of the belt was used it was something to be endured and over quickly. Kinda pointless.

If you don't want to spank then don't but saying it is wrong or doesn't accomplish anything isn't true or not always true. Spanking worked on me as a kid.

we're talking about it as the last resort! If your daughter behaves after raising your voice then obviously she doesn't need spanking. You shouldn't avoid it just cause it's a girl

There's a term called "speaking from experience". Your opinion is a presumption, not an opinion based on personal experience. Once you gain personal experience, your opinion on that subject will mean more.

Those are probably the same parents that put their kids to bed with melatonin every night starting at a year old, or get them on ADHD meds at 3 because they are "active."

It's lame that so many parents don't want to actively parent, so just medicate their kids.
