No, it's different. Top Iranian officials speak of wiping Israel off the map.

Maybe this one speech of several statements their president made will help:

    Text of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's Speech

    part of link:

Our dear Imam said that the occupying regime must be wiped off the map and this was a very wise statement. We cannot compromise over the issue of Palestine. Is it possible to create a new front in the heart of an old front. This would be a defeat and whoever accepts the legitimacy of this regime [Israel] has in fact, signed the defeat of the Islamic world. Our dear Imam targeted the heart of the world oppressor in his struggle, meaning the occupying regime. I have no doubt that the new wave that has started in Palestine, and we witness it in the Islamic world too, will eliminate this disgraceful stain from the Islamic world. But we must be aware of tricks.

    ------

I warn all leaders of the Islamic world that they should be aware of this trick. Anyone who recognizes this regime because of the pressure of the World oppressor, or because of naiveté or selfishness, will be eternally disgraced and will burn in the fury of the Islamic nations.

Those who are sitting in closed rooms cannot decide for the Islamic nation and cannot allow this historical enemy to exist in the heart of the Islamic world.

You have to wonder if they are just making empty threats. Would they really nuke Israel and destroy the land they deem holy just to purge the Jews? Seems a little ridiculous, but middle eastern logic always is.

No sane person. However, when has affordability ever been a consideration?

The more headlines that come out, the more I think war will not happen this summer. It looks to me like this a final round of posturing by the Israelies to bring Iran back to the negotiating table, and it appears to have worked. I have no doubt that if Israel discovers without doubt that Iran has made the decision to move forward with the production of a nuclear weapon they will strike. Unfortunately this is how most experts believe you have to negotiate with Iran. You have to beat them in a pissing contest.

what the US and AIPAC hate is their loss in power to bully and invade Iran, to silence Iran from saying crazy about Israel.

They know if Iran has the bomb, there won't be any nuking, but the US and AIPAC won't be able to dictate and bully Iran, like the West can't bully nukular NK.

So many of you have your head in the sand. Many in Iran and even their undemocratically elected govt official do not want war with Israel but diplomacy. Persians and Jews have an extensive history of cooperation more than a millenia in time.

The real guy running these antisemitic remarks and agenda is the Ayatollah. In 2008, he basically told government to end debate on Israel, after many officials had said they do not want war, but cooperation. phttp://articles.latimes.com/2008/sep/20/world/fg-iran20

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who is Iran's top political and military figure, said his country's hostility to Israel extended beyond the government to the Israeli people as well. In saying so, he was brushing aside recent overtures by top Iranian officials to the Israeli public.....
The comments came amid a controversy in Iran over remarks attributed to an Iranian official close to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei, a vice president in charge of tourism, was quoted in a July interview as saying that Iranians were friends with the Israeli people, despite the conflict between the governments.
Religious conflict is being used as a scapegoat.

The real war is about money and debt.

Our own defense secretary has admitted that Iran is not currently producing a nuclear weapon, but that not what bombing Iran is about, just like WMDs was not what attacking Iraq was about...

Panetta says Iran enriching uranium but no decision yet on proceeding with a nuclear weapon
By Associated Press, Published: February 16

WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said Thursday that U.S. intelligence shows Iran is enriching uranium in a disputed nuclear program but that Tehran has not made a decision on whether to proceed with development of an atomic bomb.

    The Israeli press....
The Israeli view is that while Iran continues to improve its nuclear capabilities, it has not yet decided whether to translate these capabilities into a nuclear weapon - or, more specifically, a nuclear warhead mounted atop a missile.

I wouldn't blame Iran wanting the bomb, with all the threats Israel (neighbor in the region) is using (they have the bomb)

Mohammed Atta met Saddam prior to September 11: US official
    Sept 8, 2002

MILAN, Sept 8 (AFP) - Mohammed Atta consulted Saddam Hussein prior to leading the suicide attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, according to Richard Perle, an advisor to the US defense secretary.

Iran will fight a asymmetrical war if attacked, attack the American and European economies by attacking the supply lines of oil in the middle east...that is the real reason we are seeing oil prices skyrocket...

    Progressive hating, Glennn Greenwald writes...

The latest episode being used to fuel the flames of war are two attacks yesterday on Israeli diplomats: one in India and one in Georgia. The headline in The Washington Post tells you all you need to know about how these attacks are being used: “Israel blames Iran for India and Georgia bombing attempts; Tehran denies role.” As Juan Cole points out, Indian investigators do not believe Iran was responsible, though he writes that “American media just parrot” the accusations against Iran by Israeli officials. We’ll likely never know who was actually responsible, though what is clear is that the attacks are being instantly exploited by Israel-devoted neocons to further depict Iran as a Grave Menace (Jennifer Rubin, Washington Post: if Iran is responsible, it’s “one more piece of data that Iran is growing ever bolder and more aggressive”), all without noting the glaring irony that the mode of attack in India is virtually identical to the one used to kill numerous Iranian scientists (“a magnetic bomb was slapped onto [the] car by a passing motorcyclist”). One thing is crystal clear, as macgupta put it in the comment section: “In any case, no matter who the perpetrators are, these attacks are a sign that we are moving closer to a war with Iran.”

No one ever accused Americans as a whole of being educated, historically & globally informed.
