Too floaty? I think there were two camps of FPS players during that time, the people who loved Quake and the others who loved UT.
UT99 was definitely one of the best FPS of all time. 2004 was only fun to play onslaught tbh, and by UT3 nobody played anymore.
Yeah Quake was just a quicker series overall, esp with strafing. It just felt a lot more responsive to me. Then EQ came along and people left in droves.
Someone brought up shareware. I played this one a lot (right before Wolfenstein).
Jackal, Dragon Warrior, Wizards and Warriors, Gauntlet, Super Mario Kart....
Anyone who got to play this in its heyday knows that all new MMOs just can't ever compare
