The first TC was just north of downtown.
Wasn't the original TC in an old Jack in the Box at Hildebrand and San Pedro?
The first TC was just north of downtown.
Patty's Taco House >> everything
Seriously, if Patty's started opening up multiple locations with drive thrus and served the food they serve daily at their place, they'd overtake TC in no time.
Any taco stand > TC
Seriously, there's a little mexican place down the street from me and it's the ing s. I can eat breakfast for under $5.
I remember ten years ago how amazing it was. It's still good but it was better before.
lol at a thread about Diaw turning into a taco discussion![]()
Typical San Antonio behavior tbh
Yes thats the first.
Las Palapas has good tacos, especially their bean and cheese. Also free chips and salsa!
Aaaaand my work here is done.![]()
Oh, how I miss Las Palapas up here in Austin.
Although I can't explain how many times I pulled up there on Sundays, only to be bitterly disappointed.
Someone told me years ago, that the owners were brothers. Some of the fastfood restaurants were called TaCasita, the others TC. I remember the TC at Wurzbach and Bandera, was originally called TaCasita, but changed to TC. This was all going on mid 80s. I don't know if the 1st TC was the one @San Pedro/Hildebrand.
Actually it was a Dairy Queen that had closed down. Felix Stehling, the guy that started the Taco Cabana restaurants owned a bar across the street on the other corner, a real nasty neighborhood beer joint called the Chrystal Pistol. He bought the vacant Dairy Queen for more parking for his beer joint.
He and his brother Mike got the idea to put the building to use and were partners in the restaurant and when it became wildly successful. After they opened several more, the brothers split up the business over whether to expand out of San Antonio or keep it smaller and with the original concept.
The legend is that the original TC which opened as a completely open air outdoor restaurant had its entire set of tables and chairs stolen the first night so Felix decided to operate 24 hours per day. Later they added a wooden frame roof and some canvas walls. Thus was born the 24/ patio Mexican restaurant concept and history was made.
The thing that was so good about the original concept of the TCs was that it worked like a cafeteria. Everything was a la carte, so you could get whatever you wanted such as one taco al carbon, a guisada taco and two enchiladas. And the food was not only made to order as you moved down the line, it was damn good S.A. Tex/Mex
When they started the pre-determined dinner plates with rice and beans, it meant the end of the cafeteria style a la carte--and the prices went up. I think that was after the buy out from the original owners.
That original TC had a certain ambiance at the early morning hours after the bars closed--including a bullet hole in one of the plexiglass windows put there when a couple of dealers had a dispute one morning.
glad to hear I'm not the only one to suffer like that
No news is good news. The only update that can happen now would be someone claiming him.
And Taco Cabana in Dallas sucks.
Taco Cabana's chicken fajitas are the .
Done on purpose. Fux Dallas!
Sadly, the last couple of times I went to TC, it was bad. Still as far as fastfood texmex, its better than anything Wa. State has to offer. Still like the taco deal. 2 tacos, queso and chips and a med. drink for 5 bucks IIRC.
Yeah, that's some bull . Chick-fil-a is closed on Sunday too. They are both near my work, so if I'm running late and want to pick something up, I'm screwed on Sundays. Whataburger is right there too, but I can only eat so much Whataburger.
You guys are doing a disservice for the Spurs if Diaw was ever to discover this thread. He'll never be in shape.
Diaw doesn't really fit in the Spurs system I think - he no longer has that drive or motivation to play consistent defense as Pop wants and this team sorely needs.
But getting him is better than nothing, if it goes through.
And Bonner does? Anyways Diaw is a big who stretches the floor & Pop loves that
Just had some tacos from Rocky's tbh.![]()
