Probably because this thread has nothing to do with the Mavs and their gay bull . Strictly Kawhi v. Kobe.

Give me your honest opinion (like it is worth anything.) on what you think the outcome of the coming match up's will look like. Then all of ST can take you at least simi-seriously after your rather embarrassing antics tonight.

kawhi did pretty well vs gay who is the exact same player as kobe but is actually more efficient and a better athlete
he also did pretty well vs durant who is way longer then kobe and shoots mostly jump shots

kawhi will get lots of practice hopefully since they play L.A 3 times in about 1 and half weeks

I agree. And if say the Lakers don't get knocked out of the first round, we know exactly who to play him. Don't get me wrong, playoffs are completely different from the regular season, but I feel Kawhi will adjust very well. Like previous threads state, the guy is already a "beast".

If Kawhi can handle Kevin Durant, then he can handle Kobe Bryant. Unless of course, the refs give Bean the preferential treatment. In which case, then no one can cover him except for Manu and truthfully, I would prefer for Manu to not use up that energy that's better served for the Spurs on offense. Thank RC the Spurs have 1 Stephen Jackson. Between that plus Danny Green as well, Kawhi got major backup.

Bryant will jack up 25 shots a game. You can bet your life on that. The only drama is, how many will go in?

I'd say about 8-9 per game.

So the real question will be...can the Spurs keep those 9-foot tall bigs off the offensive glass.

Another key is not fouling Bryant. He's a very inefficient shooter, so the key is to make him shoot contested 18-20 footers. If he hits 8-9 buckets a game, that's 16-18 points. That's great for us on 25 shots. But if we let him get 8-10 free throws on top of the buckets, then he's up to 25 points.

Bean can score 35 points. But if he does it on 35 shots then he's doing that 1 point per shot ratio, which means Bean's effectiveness is down. That stat is like the "Bowen Metric".

Meh. Kawhi is good, but I still look more forward to Stephen Jackson and Manu matchups. I think Kobe would find a way to draw fouls on Kawhi in the playoffs whereas it would be more of a chess match againt sj and manu.
Fact: Kawhi is in the top 20 All-Time of Rookies with the least fouls per minute.

For the record, Parker has 60 fouls (#17 in the league), Kawhi has 57 (#15) and Bonner has only 47 (#4).

And having watched some Laker games recently, I have to disagree about him being just a jump shooter. He's penetrating just as much as past seasons, but not getting as many bail out calls by the refs. At least, that's the case in the games I've seen recently.
    (numbers per game)

    Kobe last year: 7.1 FTA
    Kobe career: 7.6 FTA
    Kobe this season: 7.9 FTA

(he's shooting close to last year and/or career in terms of FTA per minute)

If Kobe can be goaded into taking 20+ well contested shots I would think the Spurs would be in prime position to take a series. I'll wait and see what the match-up looks like during the regular season before deciding anything.
Kobe has been averaging 20-21 shots per game in the last few years, and this number is quite stable in the playoffs.

Even though this season this number is up (23.4 FGA), I don't see how anybody could force him to shoot 20+ "well-contested" shots per game...

Leonard could do fine against Kobe. The added length could possibly even bother the turn around fadeaway that Kobe has a hard on for.

Should be one of a match up, and I'm confident that he can do well as the primary defender on Kobe. Looking forward to Pop throwing him in at the deep end of the pool. What I'm really hopeful about is the mul ude of looks the Spurs can throw at Kobe. Short of a having a Bruce Bowen to throw at a perimeter player the next best thing is a variety of defensive options to keep them off balance. Some of that is scheme (traps, double teams, etc.) but with four guys with different sets of strengths and weaknesses in Manu, Jax, Green, and Leonard the Spurs can mix and match well enough to keep Kobe from getting too comfortable early. He's not as dangerous as he once was but he's still a threat do go off for 30 if he's able to get in a groove out of the gate.

    Kobe is a Legend.
I'm a big fan of Kawhi, but he is just a little kid in comparison.

That's like somebody saying "Bismack Biyombo vs Tim Duncan!"...it sounds really funny and stupid.

I don't know if he'll guard Kobe because then who'd guard Ron Artest? I know that sounds like an idiotic question but Danny Green obviously is not big enough or strong enough to guard him.

A combination of Ginobili, Jackson and Green. If the Lakers are stupid enough to become consumed with posting him up consistently, then that obviously means less touches for their big three and significantly increases the chances of the Spurs winning. And even if that were the right call, if Bryant is too selfish to consistently feed Bynum and Gasol, who have mismatches virtually every game, then what chance does Artest have? It's not like it's unique for him to have a strength advantage anyway. Other than James, there's no other wing with anywhere near the same strength as him.

While that maybe true, he has a significant size/strength advantage over Green specifically. We already are handicapped against them in the post at the PF spot, no need to be so at the SF spot as well.

    What's Bowen stats vs Kobe?

Kawhi won't be better than Bowen at this juncture.

The best way to gaurd Kobe is pressure pressure pressure. Kawhi is good, but come on. He has never even seen the likes of Kobe 1v1 yet. Gaurding Kobe/KD 1v1 is the hardest job in the NBA. Seeing how Kawhi has only seen Kobe once this season, he's going to need a lot more experience against him in the playoffs where Kobe is so good at drawing fouls. Same for Durant.

I'm super excited at what Kawhi can do defensively, but am I excited to see Kawhi vs Kobe, Kawhi vs KD, in the playoffs? nah. More like anxious.
