Anderson would have to regress a lot to only be considered marginally better than Matt.
The Bonner take was a bit crude, but not without merit. The take on Anderson's improvement year-to-year is backed up by the facts.

Check out Anderson's bonnerific declines every year in the playoffs. He's a regular season player just like Matt. A better version, to be sure, but he's about to get paid like an All-Star, not the role player that he is.

Seeing as Anderson practically didn't improve at all, it's shocking. Pek, Ilyasova, Harden all seem like far better candidates. Not too surprising for Anderson to win though, in a media awards race, scoring per game always seems to matter a lot more than it should.
That's all I'm saying.

Yep, Harden was clearly the most improved player this season. Andrew Bynum and Ilyasova would be up there too imo.
Pek and Lin would have made good cases had they played more, because of their injuries
Cousins and Monroe also improved a lot but, as sop re lottery picks, they are expected to improve so I don't even think those should be considered.
Anderson didn't improve a lot, his playing time increased but his production remained similar to what he used to do.

I wonder how many times a 4-time all-star in his 11th season has gotten votes for Most Improved -- and particularly one who has received MVP votes in 4 different seasons (soon to be 5) and has been in the top 12 of MVP voting on three different occasions.
If Howard doesn't get hurt Anderson doesn't get this award, voters felt sorry for the Magic I guess.

i think players on their contract year have no business winning the MIP if they cant back it up the following year...

buzz and stats are mostly what this award is about, D Green had a truly spectacular year but had neither
In the 2004-2005 season, Shaq got one first place vote for MIP. By then he had already been named the NBA's MVP and a three-time Finals MVP. He even got a second place vote for MIP in 2007-2008!
I also found one third place vote for Kobe for MIP in 2005-2006.
