LA sucks unless you are wealthy, it's just another urban sprawl. NYC there is plenty to do regardless of income level
This is kind of puzzling, as there is tons of outdoor stuff to do in the LA area that doesn't cost anything other than gas money. I'll go out on a limb and say they aren't two 11,000 foot mountains to go hike within a 2 hour drive of NYC. The beaches in the area don't cost a thing (other than Bolsa Chica). You can go rock-climb on a day-trip to Joshua Tree for a lousy $20 per car admission fee, or you can do it in the San Jacinto range for free. NYC doesn't have anything close to the drive up the Angeles Crest Highway, and I'll take Griffith Park over Central Park any day.

NY City. More diversity. People from all over the world in New York City. Any type of woman you want you can find in NY City. Manhatten is loaded with beautiful single women outnumbering men. Also any type of cuisine you can find in NY City.

Are you totally unfamiliar with the cost of living in NYC?

NY is a fun vacation…Night life, great food, walk & take the subway…LA has mountains, beach, fishing, golf courses everywhere, Star Gazing, night baseball games…The fast pace & LA traffic does get the best of me…

A 2-hour drive isn't LA and neither is a day trip. A 2 hour drive from NYC would include Philadelphia and all of up state NY and parts of Vermont if that were the case. Plenty of beautiful national parks, lakes, and shores.

NYC mostly for personal reasons. I walk fast, hate being friendly with people I don't know, want a career in finance, and I like working in an intense fast paced environment. The only drawback is outragious living expenses.

Apples and oranges. But I have to go with NYC since I've been there. I'd rather have rush hour in a subway than on a freeway (having lived in Houston which is only a fraction of LA traffic). My personality lends itself more to NYC than LA. Hate the Yankee's, Giants and Knicks, though. LOL Knicks.

    This.

There are a lot of similarities between NY & L.A.

To add to the above- cheap-cheap and exotic food all over L.A. if you like to indulge in new things, new flavors.

The women in L.A. are from all over the planet and if you like to indulge in those types of delicacies--oh my....so many flavors to try. (not saying NY does not--but I have more experience in l.a.--only a little taste of N.Y.)

17 years in l.a. and the last 12 of those I had money to boot.

    L.A. wins by a mile.

What national park is 2 hours from New York? Also, how can someone complain about Los Angeles' urban sprawl in comparison to the entire I-95 corridor?

LA has also a more laid-back style of living compared to New York, imo.

Both cities are huge and comparable, I'd probably take NYC but only because of my east coast bias and proximity to Philly, DC, Boston.

But I would MUCH rather live in a not so massive city. DC, San Fran, San Diego, Philly, and a ton of others if it weren't for their location. I need to live near a coast. I'm sure a city like Milwaukee is a nice place to live, but no way I'm ever living in the midwest.

I wonder how many people weighing in on this subject have even been to both places. Both are great cities but L.A. is easily the better place to live. Traffic sucks but pretty much everything else is awesome.

Having spent about the same amount of time in both(about 6 hours ),spending traffic in both, LA all day everyday. I get my jollies from being sprawled out on the beach in the sun while listening to the sounds of the beach. I get my jollies from year round beautiful weather. The whole metroplex of LA is much better then the boroughs of NYC. What can I say. (but by no ing means would I root for the Lakers)

    p.s. medical marijuana

Upper East Side townhouse with gorgeous period details > Beverly Hills renovated ranch with a view of smog. By a LOT.

But, as always, matter of personal preference.
