There's a huge difference in a waiter making himself comfy in the booth next to you and what SpurinDallas described, a friendly introduction. There's really no reason to cut someone off during their introduction, no matter how tired, hurried, hungry, thirsty, or important you are. It may be a contest or not, the employee is just doing what management requires of them and ting on them for it is just plain rude. If it is such an inconvenience, register a complaint to the management or just don't go there. These are the kind of customers that make it difficult for restaurants to keep competent employees and then leads to threads like "Why does service suck so bad?"
