What makes Olympic coverage in the US so unwatchable is at least half of the coverage is human interest stories about how Marshon the high jumper was born with only one nut or how Becky's sister sold her only pair of track shoes to pay for crystal meth.

Exactly... they show 2 rounds of Judo that's starting to look pretty dope, and then they go to a commercial break followed by a 15 minute special on Hope Solo's abusive childhood that nobody gives a about...

The NFL is the American Idol of sports in America. It's very easy to watch and understand, a lot of people watch it, and it's only on tv for a short portion of the year compared to other sports.

the olympics. No one gave a about short track speed skating when the Chinese completely dominated it, but now Apolo Ohno wins a few medals and Americans love the . If the US could dominate steeple-chase we'd all bandwagon that ed up event too.

Baseball's interesting around now because this is when trades start happening (Kevin Youkillis to Chicago for example), plus the All Star game's up soon. Not to mention the NBA Draft in 2 days.

Then shortly after, you got free agency stuff in NBA going down. Or you can always put it on ESPN and watch 50% of all their coverage still being about football even though they're not even playing it right now.
