A load more 18 year olds kill people drunk driving than with guns.
    great and convincing explanation

in all seriousness if you are not responsible enough to buy a beer there is a small chance you are responsible enough to carry a gun

What's wrong with allowing people to buy a gun for instance at 25 y/o with a permit ?

making your own personal experience a generality is bit of a stretch tbh. I'm happy your grandparents retired just fine, some other people don't have this chance because they were lazy or life has been hard for them (illness, handicap...).
"at least I'm not obliged to see my 70 y/o grand mother"

It sounded like you were trying to compare personal experiences, tbh.

People in the U.S. who are unable to work qualify for disability. People who are simply lazy are generally thought to get what they deserve -- why should the rest of us pay good money to support freeloaders?

Where did I say that France was awesome ? France has a lot to deal with like the US.
Then I'm not sure why you're throwing stones from your glass house.

Let me guess you think I was unemployed in France and applied for a green card to work here ? sorry but no I'm here because my company sent me here for a 3 years expatriation.
Actually, my guess was an H1B Visa for skilled labor -- I work in tech, so I see a lot of people who come in on those. Many more from Asia than Europe obviously, but there are definitely Europeans who come over here to work in the tech industry.

This country became a country because citizens took up arms to expel foreign rulers. As a result, guns are part of our culture. I'm sure that from European eyes it's weird and unsafe, but here it's just part of who we are.

It sounded you consider that French system or protective systems are worthless. I just emphasized some advantages of a protective system its protect people.

People in the U.S. who are unable to work qualify for disability. People who are simply lazy are generally thought to get what they deserve -- why should the rest of us pay good money to support freeloaders?
it's called solidarity but here we are about to enter in a long debate. I know your arguments, you probably know mines and we are not going to change of opinion anyway.

Then I'm not sure why you're throwing stones from your glass house.
I'm throwing stones because I received some to begin with (yeah I know dude is Greek Greece btw), I'm not a republican but I usually retaliate.

my visa is a L1 I'm no technician I work in Finance, my company needed me here in Michigan and as I'm curious and love to live out of my country I jumped on a new opportunity to discover another culture. FWIW it's a cultural chock so far, unbelievable to think american are European descendant, there is not anymore much of common culture or understanding between the two tbh

I'm not surprised that except for UK, US and Europe are cutting bridges.

I get the cultural part but a lot of countries took up arms to conquer freedom, they are not obsessed about that hundreds year later but once again I get it, it's a cultural thing and as you pointed out for European eyes it's weird and unsafe like many other things jails obsessions, abortion, death penalty, censorship ( at the "bip" vs. on tv, I tried once to watch a Tarantino movie on tv ) etc...

The finest FO in the world dissected their championship team and thus paved the way for the sweep in the first round of the playoffs. Mark Cuban is a very very very fortunate rich bas . That's it.
it looks to me like they dedicated one year in which they MIGHT have won the NBA championship for the chance of making a Triple D dynasty which would last about 10 years, cuban knew it was a gamble and he decided it was worth taking it.

From my point of view, a lot of it looks like a misguided way of running things that gives people incentives to be lazy, but running France is most decidedly not my problem, so whatever works for y'all is fine by me. I only fired in retaliation.

FWIW it's a cultural chock so far, unbelievable to think american are European descendant, there is not anymore much of common culture or understanding between the two tbh

Yeah, there's definitely a wide gulf of difference. Though I'm not sure how much is cutting bridges and how much is simply agreeing to disagree. But we've definitely come a long way from the post-WWII era when both sides had a clear understanding that they needed to work together.

Oh yeah, we're a messed up country alright.

I just don't think there are non-messed-up countries out there with any particular right to criticize.
