The guy is the fourth-best option for Team USA on offense out there behind Lebron, Durant, and Melo. And did you guys see how Lebron carried Kobe in the dying minutes? No one was even looking to pass the ball to Kobe when the outcome of the game is still in doubt

Kobe would have taken a hero 38-footer with the shotclock at 2 after having the ball 18 seconds in his hands.

Right now, Kobe is Tim Duncan-ing it, 04 Olympics style tbh.

Minus the fact that Kobe is 34 and Jim was 28 and in his prime in 2004 but that's irrelevant, right?

In the end, Kobe's still bringing home the gold though.

    Kobe 2 > 0 Duncan... tee, hee

sons you all know I am no Kobe fan, but Spur fan has absolutely no room to talk when it comes to Olympics ...

another thing sons is not only did Argentina sweep and mop the floor with Duncan's U.S. team in 2004 (the most crucial game of their Olympics which Duncan the bed and only scored 10 points, 6 rebounds, and turned the ball over 3 times see link below) ... but even Lithuania beat them as well. yes Lithuania!

    http://archive.fiba.com/pages/eng/fa...statistic.html

(btw another interesting tidbit ... Ginobili stepped up for his country and delivered 29 points in that game while Duncan couldn't do for us)

so just to set the record straight with statistical facts. Tim Duncan was clearly the best player on the 2004 Olympic team, I mean it was his team. However in the two biggest games for the U.S. team in 2004 Duncan was pretty much nowhere to be found ...

    Semi-Finals vs Argentina

    Argentina: 89
    USA: 81

    Duncan: 10 points, 6 rebounds, 3 turnovers

    Top USA Performer

Stephon Marbury: 18 points (8 of 15 shooting)

    Bronze Medal Game vs Lithuania

    USA: 104
    Lithuania: 96

    Duncan: 6 points (1 of 7 shooting)

    Top USA Performer

    Shawn Marion: 22 points (9 of 15 shooting), 6 rebounds, 3 steals

lol @ this thread., obviously kobe knows he doesnt have to do much to win the gold, they are extremely stacked compared to the compe ion. im not buying that USA doesnt have size bull we have a load of talent. thats enough. 2008 gold medal game vs spain.. usa would have lost that game if it wasnt for kobe.. if needed he will step up as always, thats when he shoots his load in ur mouths and u accept it gracefully.

Kobe always been streaky, even during the 3peat. He would dominate 1 series and be a clear 2nd banana the next. Only thing that changes is the size of the gap between his good games.

That's why Duncan was Team USA's leader in points, rebounds, and FG%.

Meanwhile, Kobe shoots like 10% vs. Angola.

And his '08 Gold Medal game is massively overrated. Not only was he outshined by Wade in the game, but he also let his main assignment, Rudy Fernandez, drill him for 22 points. So much for that "doberman defense."

Kobe's a mediocre FIBA player. Always has been.

Yeah actually I agree, Spurs fans really have no room to talk tbh. Duncan brought home a bronze medal for crying out loud How can you allow Iverson and Marbury run the team when you're the only player in the rsoter with Championship ring? Losing to Puerto Rico by 19 points should be a wake up call but no sir, they had to be embarrased twice by losing to Argentina in the same month. Kobe may be a ballhog but I think he would come out guns blazing against Aregentina fwiw.

And people can't blame James and Wade here fwiw. Brown gave majority of the minutes to his veterans.

    Part 1

The American Standard Of Pride, Perfection, and Excellence Was Set With The Dream:

Next It Was The Great Tim Duncan's Turn To Lead The Nation Back To It's Perfect Gold Medal Traditions

Tim Started Team USA Out Of The Gate Strong and Determined:

He Anchored The Paint and Took No :

It Soon Became Clear He Simply Wasn't Up To The Task.

You Could Routinely Find Him On His Knees Wishing, Hoping, Praying:

He soon Became A National Disgrace By Leading America to a Bronze Medal:

He Was So Embarrassed By This Disgrace He Couldn't Even Look America In The Face:

To Make Matters Worse After Collecting His Bronze Medal He Cried Like A Baby...Blasted The FIBA Referees, and Swore He Would Never Play For The US Again In The Olympics.

Tim Duncan wore a haggard look as he emerged from a locker room of bronze medalists. Hardly an emotional guy, he mumbled that his international basketball career is "95 percent" over and that, oh yeah, "FIBA [stinks]."
    Talk About Leadership:

Nothing, it seems, can get Duncan to buy into playing for the United States again. He was asked if his own misgivings about playing internationally would hurt the recruitment of other marquee players.

"I hope not," Duncan said. "I'll try not to share my experiences with anyone."
    Here's the proof: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...2004Aug28.html
