He shouldn't have had to whine.
Well deserved. The "cap" doesnt get enough love in GOAT debates he has the strongest case vs. MJ tbh. I do dide with MJ because I missed Kareem's prime. I saw ALL of MJ's but those that have seen both some favor Jabbar.
The Lakers were dumb to not have a statue of Kareem in the first place. He should've been the first Laker to have one.
BTW gretzky definitely didn't deserve one.
Should remodel Staples to his bald head.
It seems that is the only way to get something done in the Lakers organization, a few years back Kobe was whinning also about getting more help and he got it
They should just name one of the Staples Center restrooms in his honor or something.
staples center's bathrooms have the suns logo when we piss in the urinals..![]()
the Lakers do tanking also?I'm shocked
As an LA Kings fan I have to agree with this. Although Gretzky was the greatest, he didn't win a cup for LA. A good comparison would be the Washington Wizards having a Jordan statue.
Blame my Habs for beating Gretzky in the 93 Finals
Too bad they haven't done jack since. Yeah, yeah I know... 24 > 1
kobe havin' a statue there would be an obtruding profanity to kareem and others who also have statues there tbh
Robitaille deserves a statue more, tbh....
Truth Latarian; you are wise beyond your 11 years. If you're going to make a Kobe statue you might as well construct one for Byron Scott too.
Scottie Pippen jokes are fine, but Bryan Scott? C'mon man.
We'll be staaaaaacked sooooon
lol @ the Heat retiring number 23. Weak-minded, petty franchise
I can already see Kobe having a statue outside Miami's arena and his jersey retired there too![]()

Because of this news, watch the Spurs build a statue for Bruce Bowen.
Not before they build one for Avery Johnson or Matt Bonner
That's pretty disrespectful to Kareem. IMO he's the greatest Laker by far and you're comparing his whining to Bruce Bowen getting a statue. I see you've taken a liking upstairs.
Absolutely NOT. KAJ didn't win in LA until Magic got there.
Kareem won even before he got to LA. Pretty irrelevant because Magic's championships teams were always stacked.
Kareem, Worthy, Mcadoo, Wilkes, Dantley, Scott.
Even Bird didn't have a team playing alongside better players.
Deserves it more than De La Hoya...that's for sure. Also, if you're going with the argument that Shaq doesn't deserve one, then you can state that Gretzky doesn't either since most of his ultimate success was playing for Edmonton. I don't know if he'll get one simply based on how he and the F.O. ended their coexistence. Retired jersey? Yes. Statue will probably come a tad bit later if at all...
