I really do find it interesting that I am sneered at in here because I make a living as a mechanical contractor and have happy employees that like working with me. Strange. What are they teaching you little es in school that makes you feel so special that you don't ever get your hands dirty?
You're sneered at in here because you're an unapologetic read teamer incapable of looking at issues objectively. Red team = good, blue team = bad.

    Red team LOL

    I'm hardly that, dumbass.

The fact that I think Obama is an absolutely terrible president doesn't automatically make me red team.

What was your response when RG suggested you become a democrat (as you're clearly a moderate)?

I have issues with both sides. It's a lesser of evil thing.

Your response was no, or something to that effect. That is not a "lesser of two evils thing", that is a complete disdain for a political party.

Still not good enough. It is a variation on "I promise I already got paid, and release any claim that might generate a lien".

Did quite a bit of work on a boiler at a laundry...several thousand dollars worth and the owner (chinese bas ) just flat refused to pay...nothing wrong with the work, he just didn't want to pay and told me so to my face. The boiler room was just a shack tacked on to the back of the building and didn't have a locking door. I went over there on my way to work one morning (about 5am) and pulled the flame safeguard relay, rewired the sub-base so when the power was turned on 120V went to the milliamp flame detection circuit instead of the 120V power circuit.

Flip the switch and *pop* the relay fries. They are about $800.

He got a new one, installed it and *pop* fried the relay.

    Went and bought another one....*pop*

Got another contractor out there to install a new relay *pop*

They couldn't figure out what was wrong.

    Called another contractor...*pop*

They couldn't figure out what was wrong

He finally called me desperate because he had laundry piling up for two days and couldn't run...and I told to get a $4500 cashiers check for the work I had already done and another $1500 cashiers check as a deposit for me to come fix the boiler...flipped the wires back, slapped in a new relay and went to the bank.

Naa..it's OK...I sign conditional releases all the time...

    see the difference?

Personally I don't think Boehner is very good. He needs to crack some heads and marginalize the right wingers that won't compromise... em over on committee assignments, deny them RNC re-election money, etc. Play powerball.

Yeah... I see it, but it still seems to me to be a bit ambiguous on the conditionality department. I am not a lawyer, although I do read a lot of contracts.

Pretty clearly says they only get the releases after I get my check.

The people that won't compromise will not quite be deterred, IMO. They are the results of "more conservative than you are" primaries in very solid districts for the most part.

I think Boehner is doing as good of a job as can be expected.

I will defer to your experience, as you have read more of these than I have.

Seems like it could be a bit clearer, but that is just my preference.

    LOL

Legal do ents aren't designed to be clear. They are designed to perpetuate the hiring of lawyers.

I would agree to some extent. There is a certain populist movement in legal circles to make contracts into plain English, and I am all for that.

"I release any claim or lien, after I receive payment of X for my services."

    One sentence. Easy.

Somewhat disagree. Bad lawyers write bad legal do ents. My client's pay me to write contracts that will not lead to them being sued. They get sued over my language, and its an issue I created to perpetuate more legal fees and I get fired, maybe even sued.

I personally would not sign. You certainly do not want to go to court over a stupid lien release. Tell them to pay you in cash or credit and you will sign their release. If they want to pay you with a check, you will sign once the check clears.
