I think I specifically said that part wasn't intelligent, but if you need it more plainly...him implying that the gun control debate isn't relevant because a motivated person would carry out their plans using whatever (e.g. bombs) is at their disposal. Also saying that you can't rationalize the motive for whoever commits these acts. Both are intelligent points.

Of course, he then tries to rationalize it by suggesting that it could've been prevented if God wasn't taken out of schools. Everything in the last part of that argument is devoid of logic and goes against cons utional principles. So, I'm not defending him as you are trying to make it seem.
