Back in the mid 90s... There was no internet and no NBA game broadcast in France.

I was reading monthly magazines (5 majeur, Mondial Basket...). I remember a front page with Duncan prior to the 97 draft, introducing the new big thing from Wake Forest and became a fan ever since.

It became much easier to watch Spurs games on French TV when Parker was drafted
Hard to disagree with that ! Absolutely the same thing.

    1989

I was 3 years old at the time. My poor parents lol. I made them turn on the radio to listen to Jay Howard every home game (since they were blacked out) from 89-93, til I was big enough to shoot on the 10 foot rim outside. I acted out just about every shot as the game was going on on my small 6-7 foot hoop in the living room. Been a NBA/Spurs nut every since.

I started in 99, but took a little break until 2003. I traveled for a year so didn't follow the NBA until I got back in 2005. Got relocated for a job in 2006 so I really couldn't watch the Spurs a lot until 2007 rolled around.

Been mostly off for the past 5-6 years.

74-75 - ABA days - Got to see Dr. J, McGinnis, Dan Issel, David Thompson play against those great early Spurs teams with Gervin, Silas and Larry Kenon. If you didn't get to see Dr. J or George McGinnis in the ABA days, check it out on YouTube. Scary!

more or less the same here but I started to be interested to the Spurs through The Admiral. I remember a cover page of David in uniform in one of the magazines.

1987....when they sucked really bad. Names like Alvin Robertson, Dallas Comegeys (spelling), Frank Brickowski, Caldwell Jones, Zarko, Greg Sutton, Greg Anderson are a few of the names that come to mind other than the usual...

$9.95? Damn, I thought I remembered First Choice being $29.95 for good regular season games in the 90s. Thank god for the 99 lockout that wiped out the PPV games league-wide.

I'm still pissed about dropping $49.95 for PPV to watch Rodman jack up threes in a must-win game 2 of the 95 WCF. Maybe it wasn't $49.95, but it was almost double the price of any other First Choice game I had ever seen advertised since the Spurs looked like they were winning the le that year.

I remember POS Paragon cable forcing us to pay to watch games from '91-'93. Could have sworn they did it with playoff games as well. I always went to Fatsos or Baby Dolls to avoid it. Figured I was better off spending that money on beer.

The first time I really remember following the games obsessively was in the '94 ('95?) playoffs, I was at a Boy Scout camp during the Spurs vs Rockets series, listening to the games on some crappy handheld radio some kid brought, feeling like the world was ending because Hakeem was going HAM on DRob. Sigh, good times.
I was a 23 year old sitting in my truck listening to that series because it was the only way to hear WOAI.

1977ish. But not really watching them. Spurs were rarely on tv. It was through the magic of transistor radio.
Bingo. Same here. TV didn't really come in until the late 80's and '90's. And that was only the occasional national TV game and then the playoffs. It's really only been the last 3 years that I've been able to watch most of the Spurs games.

(Now I'm able to watch the Spurs games on LP BB, minus only the ones on NBA TV and TNT. I get the ESPN games through WatchESPN app through my ISP. I would miss the two Cav's games, but it's not hard to spoof my location.)

1991. Visited my grandparents in San Antonio, saw David Robinson dominate the Bucks at my first live basketball game, and it stuck.

Only started around 2006 when I was 8 years old. I became a BIG Timmy fan. Watched a lot of old Spurs games (especially the championship runs '99, '03, '05) since then.

1987, I was a senior in high school and was really impressed with this kid from the Naval Acadamy.
He was drafted by the Spurs over the fact he had to serve two years in the Navy.
So I followed the Spurs and their players while they waited for the Admiral to arrive. Johnny Dawkins
Alvin Robertson , Cadillac Anderson , Willie Anderson , Walter Berry.

Was born in San Antonio in '85, so I remember the Spurs as long as I have lived. I think the first Spurs game I went to was in '92. Would watch occasional games with my parents, stuff like that. I still remember when they won the '99 championship, I was at my Grandmas. As bad luck would have it, her TV had died earlier in the week, so we went to Walmart and bought like a tiny 18-inch TV, and the whole family was huddled around that watching the clinching game. Great memory.

I didn't start really consistently following the Spurs, however, until the 2002-2003 season. I still remember the night when I really fell in love with the team. My brother worked at Bjorn's at the time, and had gotten a couple tickets for the Clear Channel suite box. December 11th, vs. the Mavericks. The AT&T (then SBC) Center was brand new. Spurs won 111-104. Tony Parker went off for 32, which was his career high at the time. I've been hooked ever since, watching every single game that I can. Of course, Spurs went on to win the le that season (going through the Mavs on the way), which was amazing.

I developed a love for the pro game while going to school in NY in the 50s. So when the Chapparals started coming here as a rental I was one of the few that went to the games at first. After the team was purchased and officially became a San Antonio team, I got my best friend to go to a game with me. He's a short little guy and never had anything to do with BB so it was a hard sell. I had to buy his ticket. We got drunk, had a great time and bought season tickets at half-time for the rest of the year. Ultimately we added tickets for the family as well. We kept those tickets behind the Spurs bench for over 20 years and rarely missed a game.

My older brother (who also introduced me to this site) got me watching the spurs just by watching himself and me being in a close proximity. I remember fully "investing" in them in the 2004 series against the lakers. Perfect timing.

First time I watched the Spurs was 2001. I'm from the Philippines, and my uncle from California, who was visiting, was rooting for the Lakers. He said that he'll give me 20 pesos if the Lakers win, but I have to shine his shoes if they lose (I was about 10 or so). I remember the only NBA players I knew were Shaq and Kobe, and they seemed unstoppable. Nonetheless I did the bet, and I won, with me being amazed at an unfazed, fundamental Tim Duncan. Ever since then, I've always started rooting for the silver-and-black and for #21.

In the 1990s after I met my wife. She went to high school with DRob, so naturally she was a Spurs fan, which then made me a Spurs fan.

We sure picked a great team to follow all these years!

    GO SPURS GO!!!!!
