FWIW, S-Jax said “Thanks to all my fans for their love and support. I would never say a player is better than me when I know their (sic) not. Not for no one.” via Instagaram. So this story is likely to be true.
I loved Jack's toughness but tbh I always thought he was ing half-assing it most of the time. I would always see him moving slower than crap for everything. ing don't know what to think right now. This kinda took away from today's game for me... . Oh well, another reason to drink. lol

All you people bashing Jack for his regular season play need to remember what he went through, and also that he's more of a Robert Horry type player who puts it all on the line in the playoffs. There is no positive way to spin his loss. Pop implying that Danny Green is a better player? Laughable.
I know Stephen Jackson provided a lot of heart, but I'm sorry, he was simply horrible this season. He couldn't make a shot to save his life, and he looked slow and old out there every time he stepped onto the court. I know Pop has been very disappointed with how the team has been playing recently and I'm sure he got on everyone's back; Jackson probably overreacted and was subsequently waived. This isn't a huge loss. I wish we'd sign Josh Childress though. That guy can flat out shoot.
Agree. SJax > D.Green
S.Jax has that killer instinct when it comes to close games IMO .. he's like Horry/Manu. We really need that in the playoffs.
Acc to some news the move to waive him came about half an hour before the Spurs were scheduled to take their annual team photo...

I never thought that Robert Horry took the floor thinking that, or playing like he was en led to anything. Jackson played like he read somewhere that he belongs in the same conversation with Horry. Guess not!
This is the difference between the Spurs organization and any other. Any other organization you would have known something before it actually it happened. And any other organization would have let the issue linger. The Spurs cut ties because it was detrimental to the team. Tbh I was disturbed when Jax posted photos of his Bentley's after he was fined for the Ibaka comments. It seemed arrogant and is not Spurs style.
Other players will learn how to step up. Maybe even players no one would guess. I have a feeling these playoffs could be interesting in that regard.
Man, I don't even know what to think right now. Captain Jack's run with the Spurs turned sour both times. I just can't believe we'll be stuck going to the playoffs with no Ginobili (at least 1 round), no Diaw (same) and now no Jackson. I'm just disappointed in everyone involved, but especially Jackson.
Someone piss in your Cheerios this morning, bro?![]()
Which isn't true, but keep on saying it.
Dude's averages have been lower in the playoffs than in the regular season each and every year with the exception of last year. He is NOT in any way, shape, or form like Robert Horry.
Also the part about him having a negative impact on the younger players. Sounds like he was becoming too much of a cancer.
He's the only player who did not get intimidated last year against OKC. I was looking forward to SJAX/Kawhi guarding Durant. We need a hardnosed defender quick.
Yeah, I'm sure Timmy, Tony, and Manu were intimidated. They've never been at that stage before.
Yeah Parker had a big 2nd half in game 6
havent finished reading thread, but does this mean the one story earlier in the thread was true?
my only concern is what this does to our depth for the playoffs. jax was not going to be a major factor in the playoffs anyway. nor was he going to be brought back next year.
Jackson was probably pestering Pop about playing time and why Green and Manu get to play so much. Then Pop probably asked if he really thought he was better than them.
I feel the same way now man.
Wow!. I just read every page of this thread and I'm still in shock. At first, I thought it was a joke, until I saw the confirmation from Yahoo's Wojo. I'm mixed on this astonishing development. One one hand, I keep remembering how big Jack was versus OKC in last year's WCF. Clearly, he was the 2nd best defensive perimeter defender on the team. There's no question that his at ude and moxie would've again been valuable to the Spurs in these playoffs. On the other hand, aside from a few games, he really hadn't played well this year. Still, he owed this team his best effort, his professionalism and leadership. I can't say whether it appeared that he was dogging it, but if that were, in fact, the case, he deserved to be released.
Given the -hole he was in in Milwaukee and his very public statements about how happy he was to be back home and be back with a championship-level team, it's difficult to imagine that he would've created any such drama with the Spurs.I know he was worried about his long-term security, but he would've been much better off giving his full effort, playing his ass off and worrying about his future after the season.
In hindsight, I remember the last shootaround interview I saw with him. This is the one where reporters asked for a response to him being named one of the NBA's most overpaid players. I remember him literally bragging about how it doesn't matter to him because "I still make 10 mil per season." I know money is important to him, but you've got to wonder where his focus was to have "cut off his nose to spite his own face", in being such a malcontent that the Spurs felt it necessary to release him.
As some others have stated, I also believe that his career is now in serious jepoardy. Veteran players with good at udes go far and stay long in this league. Look at guys like Kurt Thomas and Juwan Howard. Meanwhile, once good-to-great players, whose skills are in decline, but have cancerous at udes, find themselves quickly ostracized and out of the league. Look at guys like Steve Francis, Allen Iverson and Stephon Marbury. Their skills had declined, but they enough ability and talent left to have played longer in the NBA. However, they became such cancers that teams felt that their "me-first bull was no longer worth the risk. It's hard to believe that it's now come to this for Jack. Perhaps it will not matter much, but the Spurs were already short-handed and this just makes matters worse. Again, the timing on this whole scenario just sucks.![]()

I wonder if he'll be rooting for the Spurs in the playoffs. We've seen time and time again that he's fiercely loyal to the organizations that he's with. Where will his loyalty lie now that he isn't on an NBA roster?
Most likely, yes.
They should just hand the Spurs an Overachiever of the Year award.
