spurs just got a whole lot deadlier....and most teams don't even realize it.
well it makes more sense than playing matty b at the 3
Obviously he wont have the same burst as he used to but the Spurs have never had a pass first small forward in the Duncan era. Cant wait to see what he can do
Defentely not making it out of the 1st round.
The 33-year-old McGrady will be eligible to play for the Spurs during the playoffs because he was not on an NBA roster as of March 1. He said he will not play in San Antonio's regular-season finale on Wednesday night against Minnesota.
That's the key in this signing. So going after MacGuire, Richardson, or the SFs on the market would have not made sense for 1 regular season game.
I must admit I'm surprised by the signing. But he's at least he can still play and is not afraid of the big moment.

If we get a 3-1 lead in the first round, don't let the microphone anywhere near McGrady. He had one of the biggest playoff jinxes of all time.
Ya, there's literally no downside to this signing, tbh..
He isn't going to steal minutes from more deserving players, he has never been known as a cancer, he isn't going to steal shots from more deserving player, he isn't hurting cap space, etc..
If he contributes, great, add another success to RC and Pop's resumes..if he doesn't, it was still worth a shot..
kind of sucks he won't play vs Minn.
he can join the glen robinson club of 2005, and hitch a ride with us for a championship.
Once again, we head into the Playoffs with players dealing with injuries (seems like every damn season), having TMAC as a backup is better than nothing... hope he can provide some needed help on the court when it matters![]()
@drew_48moh 1m SPURS SIGN TRACY MCGRADY YOLOING THE OUT OF THE REST OF THE NBA
NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Tmac is cursed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
834973 1st rounds exit in his career
I know I have been clowning McGrady a bit in this thread, but I agree that it's a nice signing. I mean the Spurs desperately need someone to fill the hole the Jackson waiving created, and there aren't too many NBA quality players out there right now that would be playoff eligible.
He's 6'8, is a good passer, and can hit outside shots. Honestly, sure, why the not
mccarney summed it up nicely in his piece for mysa.com:
No longer an explosive scorer, McGrady would seem to offer adequate rebounding, playmaking and shooting at this advanced stage. In those respects he’s not significantly different from Jackson, who had been averaging 6.2 points on 37.3 percent shooting before the Spurs unexpectedly released him last week.
McGrady’s primary job will be backing up small forward Kawhi Leonard, whom Gregg Popovich has pegged for up to 40 minutes when the playoffs begin this weekend.
By the way, looking at his stats from last season, he's still a clear cut better player than Jackson (granted, an engaged Jackson get's the edge defensively) and a legit back end rotation player. So don't think he wasn't signed in the off season because he's not good enough anymore.
Also, having watched some of his highlights from China, as Ace said, he's still got a reasonable amount of athleticism (I know it's not saying much, but still better than Jackson/Diaw). That being said, the best that can be hoped for defensively is still probably below average, as opposed to terrible.
Who said he wont? My brother was just watching the news and said he'll be eligible to play tomorrow...
That's one of a middle finger to give Jax. Pop must be convinced that T-Mac is willing to be a 9th man.

Five days ago T-Mac attended the IND/CAVS game and said he was back in the states "on business."
Seems like he's ready to play.

Let's pray the curse will reflect upon the opponents the Spurs play along the way... how's that for optimism![]()
If this happens spurs are defenitely fishing after the 1st round. Spurs are better served playing small at the 3 than the 4... this signing just confirms Pop's head is completely up his own arse.
TMac himself said that, according to ESPN.
Well, nice signing under the cir stances. It's definitely a low-risk thing, if it works out, he'll be providing a bit of scoring and passing from the bench, if it doesn't, well then he won't playing much at all.
