Part of th reason this place was upset at that trade was because we had a mid tier #1 ...in the #2 role THAT was what made it a great trade. Not questioning Pau's value when it is placed properly in context.. You may not like the type of leader he is, but Kobe is a leader. As for his 06 series and trade demands, those are not symptoms of mental weakness. Spoiled brat behavior no doubt, but not something that points towards mental weakness. Kobe has plenty of issues that can be criticized, but his mental capacity is not one of them.

There are no excuses for quitting. He quit. We've had to carry that stain for him since then.

The rest of it, I've nary a problem. That's what it took to wake Buss from his inertia. An inertia ironically ins uted by Kobe and the rape incident. Kobe woke early from his stupor and took exception to the old man still asleep at the wheel and took off after him hammer & tong. The result was as prescribed:::15 & 16 in short order.

He signed off on Jackson's return even though he'd been besmirched by Jackson.
He signed off on Artest's request to come and help even though Artest had been a lifelong arch criminal.
He signed off on Gasol. Then proceeded to beat him unmercifully until he extracted every ounce of goodness from this man.

You want it neat & tidy, like it's presented there in San Antonio. But, its the same there. The process of making sausage being in Texas or California has nary a trace of difference. Winning an NBA le is filthy work. It's not a game. It's not fun. It wasn't meant to be. Bryant understands that. But ya can't have it both ways. Either Pau is the reason the Lakers win/lose or he's not. When Pau is on, Lakers win b2b. When he's not, Lakers get swept. Kobe was there the whole time.

Pau without Kobe 0-13 with a 0% win percentage
Pau after Kobe took him in is 55-34 for a 62% win percentage
Kobe without Pau is 4-8 for a 33% win percentage

Pau literally cannot win without Kobe...those percentage deltas are similiar to Mavs>Spurs getting a job paying 125k / yr vs his current 25k / yr. It also shows that Pau doubles Kobe's win % by about 31 % by whereas Kobe increases Pau's win percentage by 100%
