Will Pop fall in love with trying to stretch out one of their bigs? Or will he play it smart and give Diaw good minutes as he's a pretty underrated post defender.

I do recall Bonner actually playing Randolph pretty well on some possessions this year, but hopefully Diaw remains the 3rd big.

Bonner will get some run in the first half of games but if he struggles he will get the hook. Pop showed in the GS series that he's willing to try Bonner out but the leash is short.

10 minutes seems about right. Bonner's game is very well-suited to Memphis, so he'll probably get at least semi-significant minutes.

Just one random example, but the box score from their last game is very indicative of what we might expect to see... 19 minutes, just 1 for 4 overall, 1 for 3 from 3P, 4 fouls, just 3 rebounds, overall a really ty individual stat line, but a jarringly high +15 from the plus-minus king. The Grizz defense is a defense that needs to be stretched.

The big depth chart is Duncan/Splitter/Diaw with Bonner as the spot minutes big. Has been that way since GSW Game 3, tbh

He'll probably get 8-10 minutes and I'm already shaking my head at the things Arthur is going to do to him.

Bonner should play once Z-Bo or Marc are on the bench. If only one of them is out there, I'm all for Bonner playing for some minutes here and there. But I think Diaw can sufficiently spread the floor without having to sacrifice as much on defense

That's actually exactly what I'm hoping for. If Darrell Arthur is running iso plays against Bonner, that's to our advantage. Unfortunately, I think they're too smart for that.

I'd rather Bonner be out there when both Z-Bo and Marc are out there. The offensive pickup from drawing Z-Bo out of the paint is huge, and my hope is we'll see a repeat of 2011, in which the defensive dropoff wasn't as bad. And visually, Bonner got abused by Z-Bo that series, so given that he statistically came out ahead when it looked like it was worst-case, that's a positive sign.

Did you watch the 2011 first round matchup Spurs vs. Grizzlies? Did you not see Bonner getting ass-raped each and every time Pop inserted him into the lineup? It didn't matter who he was guarding, that player reeled off basket after basket against the big red-head - particularly Darrell Arthur. On the other end, Bonner lived up to his usual playoff-choking reputation by clanging one 3-ball after another.

That said, Bonner's game isn't well suited against any team because he's a momemtum killer for the Spurs and a momentum-starter for the opposition. Pop's best bet is to roll with Diaw as primary backup big and go small the remainder of the time. Bonner should be kept on the bench.

If he struggles like against GS, hardly any. If he makes shots, bodies up well like against Dwight Howard, and holds his own, he may get more.

That said, Itll take Tiago in foul trouble and then Diaw playing bad. Which is very very possibly of happening.

    bonner maths:

chance bonner gets raped on d for a dunk: 50%
chance bonner hits a wide open 3 pointer: 40% (regular season)

    50% x 2 = 1 point
    40% x 3 = 1.2 points

as long as bonner takes and hits his 3s, he's a good theoretical option as long as he at least tries on d without fouling. he's also strong as , and durable. plus the stretching the d strategy.

bonner taking and hitting 3s = Good (regular season)
bonner not taking or bricking 3s = (playoffs)

so put bonner in there to rest the other guys. the second he passes up an open 3, take him out.

    Comedy gold!!!!

Because the Spurs are playing against big opponents, and he can shoot 3s, give him some minutes but if he's reluctant to shoot again, yank him out . we don't need zombies in the playoffs

I really think he can contribute this time.

Please...if that red-headed pussy actually used that strenght on the court - there wouldn't be 50 guards in the NBA salivating to successfully post him up and abuse him at will.

    lmao
