You guys get back to your place after a night of dancing and romancing, she's looking fine, you pour a couple drinks. She smiles and then licks her lips, you smile back and say....."how about some music"...she nods, so you walk over to the stereo.....
She gives you a big grin then shakes her head, so you try again....
Next morning over coffee she asks you...."you don't really listen to that punk do you"....you smile and say,...when I was a kid

my goddess on Tom Waits:
One of my favorite Waits (Tom Waits) songs is "Burma Shave". We tried to do that...and couldn't. I asked myself, "What is the essence of this song?" and I realized that I couldn't do it because it's Tom. Tom is the essence.
The Clash is one of the best bands ever. Grew up on them. Not only did London Calling the song change tha way I listened to rock, the whole album did. And coincidently, I've been listening to it quite a bit recently. Thirty years after I saw them live. Joe Ely might have a different idea about how they would work in a kicker bar. And I've drank, ed and cruised down the highway to their stuff.

There is what sounds good and what doesn't, The Clash simply don't compare with what's good out there.
Also cool this stupid....you're not a musician....actually I do play the harmonica and some slide guitar. Not that that has anything to do with appreciation or knowledge concerning music. I don't make movies but knows what's good.

Actually my first real intro to punk was the Ramones, a buddy adored them. I tried my best to see what he saw, nope, they sucked.
The Clash simply can't compare with so many other bands with a far more talented group.

So because I don't like The Clash I know nothing about the origins of blues, jazz, country and rock & roll...right? So out of those 15 big books over there about music I learned nothing....hahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Talk to me about the origins of Texas blues, ya know Henry Thomas, Blind Lemon etc, also head over to Louisiana and talk about those jazz origins.
