Sorry if I wasn't clear -- that's exactly what I mean. Even if CP3 really will leave, it's an important negotiating tactic for the Clips to claim that he won't -- otherwise the Celtics can do just what you mentioned.
Yeah, I think I misread your post, I get it now..... but at the same time, if this really was a matter of getting a deal done or losing CP3, I think they'd have relented on the extra pick and the deal would be done right now, tbh....

There's no telling what a good coach and some better veteran leadership could do for the Clips. If Pierce shows up for the ride too, it's a freaking home run. Worth the 2 picks and the salary, tbh.

And there's no way the Celtics are getting a lottery pick for KG, because it doesn't make sense to pay that much to rent the last couple of years in KGs career if you aren't going to be playing deep in the playoffs. Hoping you can turn Jordan around with better coaching and adding a couple of so-so picks isn't a terrible return, as long as it's true that Doc doesn't want to stick around for rebuilding and the C's don't want to pay him $7 million a year to coach a lottery team. I mean, the Celtics are going to get crushed over the next few years, but that's pretty much what rebuilding means.
I'm not sure how much more Pierce can contribute anymore, but even if they just get KG and Doc I think it'd do a lot of good assuming Chris Paul returns for the long term (which seems to be the real objective of the trade).

I don't think they'll be getting a lottery pick, just the Clippers' next couple first rounders which are probably going to both be in the mid 20s anyway. It doesn't seem like a huge loss. Best you can really hope to get with mid 20s picks are decent role players.

No, I just mean there's not much point in holding out to try to trade KG somewhere else for a lottery pick instead. Even aside from the no-trade clause, they wouldn't get one.

    Tony Parker says hi.

But yeah, I take your point.

You're comparing a Spurs' mid 20's pick that turned into gold to what the Clippers' would be taking there. Come on dude. "Apples to oranges" would be an understatement. lol

And yeah I don't see them getting a lottery pick from anyone. Any team who's been that bad last year isn't going to benefit from KG on their team anywhere near as much as they would from just keeping the pick.

If it really ends up playing out as DJ + 2 picks for Doc + KG, the Clippers will have pulled off a Laker-esque rape trade, tbh

Doc, KG, and (eventually) Pierce make the Clippers a lot better than they were last year, and there would STILL be assets left for another big trade, tbh....

I just hope this trade gets done soon....
Its going to be really short term though.

How many years does Garnett have? 2 Max.

And lest we forget that the West is more demanding than the East.

Pierce would be carried off a wheelchair nightly playing teams like the Spurs, Lakers, OKC, Warriors and so on every other night.

Good trade for Boston. DJ is a solid athletic Center who has room for improvement
Yeah, lots of room to improve that 22% playoff free throw percentage.

Arash Markazi was talking about this on ESPN Radio.... he said the deal may still get done, and that the Clippers already had a 5 year, $35 million contract fully worked out with Doc.... the reason they're reluctant to throw in the extra pick is because they wouldn't have a first-rounder for the next four years..... they're also still confident that CP3 will re-sign....
By rule, that's impossible. The longest stretch of pick-less years this trade could result it would be two (2013 and 2014). They probably mean that such a trade could result in the Clippers going four years total without a first-rounder (2011-2014). But those three previous picks resulted in Chris Paul and the cap room used to sign Caron Bulter and the draft rights to Eric Bledsoe (the latter two of whom are going to be used to get someone better hopefully). It's not like those picks were shunted off for cash or something. Using two more to get a defensive/spacing upgrade, their preferred coach and by extension an upgrade at small-forward seems to be a prudent move.

Teams in the middle of championship runs do not worry about late first-rounders. It's silly; the Clippers will be able to buy a pick for a million or so if they really want one. , Dallas is pretty much selling theirs.

Heisler just tweeted that the Celtics could agree to only take one pick.... if that's the case, waiting for the draft, get it done today!

Very interesting seeing the Clips being this aggressive--wonder how KG would be with CP3 and BG...He'd give them that tenacity and toughness that they seemed to lack. Doc Rivers will (in the understatement of the year...) be a vast improvement over Del Negro. Would've liked to have seen B.Shaw get his shot in L.A., but I'm certain he'll be a HC somewhere this coming year.

Trade will go down. Doc has burned bridges with Boston. Either he coach another team or go back to broadcasting.

The Los Angeles Clippers are seeking approval from ownership to complete a deal for Doc Rivers and Kevin Garnett.
The hope is that Donald Sterling will approve the financial commitment and finalize the agreement on Thursday.
The Clippers will send DeAndre Jordan and two first round picks to the Celtics, according to sources.
Rivers is accepting the job assuming Chris Paul will re-sign with the Clippers.
"Doc is taking the job to coach Chris Paul," a league source told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday. "This isn't happening if Chris planned to leave."
Paul communicated to the Clippers that hiring Rivers and trading for Garnett was essential to him re-signing in July. Paul's pushing for the deal forced the Clippers to reengage with the Celtics on Wednesday.
