Before all you gots reach for the gun, do some research on how contracts are structured and it's basically an afterthought that the final year is partially guaranteed.

it's actually 9 mil, and the chance to sign a good free agent gone too. Not good.
Thanks for the correction. Not sure why some you of expected anything less than 8-9 mil for a starting center in the NBA. 8 would have been nicer but 9 is not suprising and probably what others were offering.

How does this affect giving Kawhi a future extension? Some journalists on Twitter keep bringing up Kawhi.

In fairness, Splitter was a reason why the Spurs got to the finals.... That's all i can say. He did show improvement though, so hopefully he'll get better in his all around game or better yet, develop a jumper. Then i think he'd be worth that amount.

I don't care about what he'll get paid in 2018 or if he'll be on the team. He'd be 34 by then and by no means even as productive as he is now. Just a bad deal all together.

Glad to have Tiago back. Especially since 5 years, $45 million means his salary for next year is likely $7.5 million. That will leave a little over $11 million to resign Manu and get Kirilenko or a backup point. That could expand to over $15 million if they amnesty Bonner and Neal signs elsewhere.
    Thissss

Plus, we don't know the exact details - could really be good for us in the long term.

Hopefully that 5th year is a team option which would make this a lot more palatable.

$9 million a year was expected. But for 5 years??? Wtf? Is it possible for that 4th year to be a team option, similar to how rookie contracts are constructed?

Judging at how the Spurs were exploring other bigs, there's no doubt in my mind that Tiago's agent brought in other pending offers worth upwards of $10-11 million. The only way to get Splitter to sign for less was offer more years.

What do you mean? You're not gonna panic and meltdown?
I just can't panic and meltdown any more after 6. I mean it's like you just got back from Mai Lai, flamethrower in hand, and you're supposed to be scared of Compton?

What has Tiago improved in so markedly since the Finals that would possess the Spurs to pay this clown so much money, and for so many years?

Yeah, I mean who could forget his clutch performances and him carrying the team. He's a cog, you could say the same thing about Diaw or Danny Green.. The core guys are the reason why the Spurs got as far as they did, Parker/Duncan were the reason we got where we are at and Duncan is set to start declining sooner rather than later.. Tiago isn't going to improve offensively and we need a big that can once Duncan declines, gets injured etc..

People are concerned that the spur wont be able to pay KL in 2 years. Are they aware that Tim will probably retire by then?

Oh god, what a dreadful thought of Timmy retiring.
