Hopefully Manu will take the Duncan-route this off-season, and get into better shape. Fortunately the Olympics aren't occurring this summer, so he can rest and work on his conditioning better.
Without Manu going off in game 7 in 2005 we would only have 3 rings. You people also need to also realize he won game 5 for us this year. Yeah, his turnovers were costly in game 6 but a collapse or a choke is a team effort. He missed a free throw, Leonard missed a free throw, Pop subbed out Duncan, we couldn't grab a rebound, Parker ball hogged on a bunch of shots at end of 4th and in overtime. Just get over it.. His contract isn't that bad.
The main thing here is, you don't break up a core. Everyone thought that Ray Allen was the least significant of the big 3(the same way we think about Manu) and look how much it showed in Boston. A big part of success is chemistry and being familiar with the players around you, Manu is a huge part of all of that. Just get over it guys, we didn't win the ing championship move on with your lives already and stop going off on Manu.
At this point we can only hope Manu retires next year, another even year down the drain.
wow....your joking right? The season hasn't even started.
That's true and he deserves all the props in the world for it. Then what did he do the next year? He commits a stupidly, inexplicable foul on Dirk in Game 7 of the WCSF, giving him an "and-1" that forced a tie and sent the game into OT, where the Spurs lost. It was, without a doubt, the dumbest play I've ever seen a Spurs player commit. Without that dumb foul, the Spurs go on to beat the Suns - again - in the WCF and secure a berth in the 2006 NBA Finals versus the Heat. The point is, that one single error on Manu's part, likely cost the Spurs a championship. So let's not sit here and pretend that it's all been ice cream and cake with Ginobili. He's been a godsend to the Spurs franchise and a big important part to the Spurs success. At the same time, he's been a maddening player to root for because of unthinkable gaffes, costly turnovers and errors of commission, like the one I just described.
Another non story Spurs fans will get their panties in a wad over.
Manu is a superstar, a quality player, a different brain. He deserves this an more. He will bring the spurs to another le. He will be retired as a spur, his number will be retired too and he will be a hall of famer, so
Respect Manu
While he did commit a TERRIBLE foul on that play lets not sit here and pretend our ring would have been gift wrapped. Who knows what would have happened against the Suns, who knows what would have happened against the Heat. In my opinion, yes, we beat both of those teams easily but its not fair to just assume we win and blame the loss of a ring on him. Championships are ing hard to win and a lot of things have to go your way. 2006 was a weird year in general, if I remember correctly its when Pop started to change up the offense a little bit, it wasn't exactly the strongest Spurs roster I had ever seen and a lot of those games agains the Mavs went into overtime when they didn't have to. Yeah, game 7 was a heartbreaker but we had PLENTY of oppurtunities earlier in that series to win games that we didn't. Its not really fair to do the what ifs.
Parker has had plenty of flame outs that we choose to forget and in my opinion he has been the most underwhelming star the Spurs have ever had when it comes playoff time. Manu makes dumb mistakes, but how many times have we seen Parker just become a s of himself once the going gets tough. We lost multiple series because of Parker as well. If Parker didn't flame out in the WCF last year we could have been in the finals last year. He has choked pretty much his entire career besdies this year when you think about it. He got owned by Conley in 2011, ed out in the WCF against the Thunder. Lastly, its easy to say game 6 ruined Manus legacy, I watched it and was just as angry as the next guy. But heres the thing, I know Parker hit those two HUGE shots but he also ball hogged and took some AWFUL shots at the end of regulation. He didn't pass on the last play when he was clearly gassed, defended well and running out of time. What if Parker passed it the last play instead of relentlessly driving the ball toward no one? No one seems to blame Parker for that....
Solid Spurs fan take. I thank Manu for his contributions and his place in Spurs history, but at this point in his career he's a liability. You're not a Spurs fan if you didn't cringe every time he touched the ball in the finals.
This is a war of loyalty verses reality. Loyalty is nice, but reality wins out every time.

as if we are paying Manu's salary![]()
I've heard that to, Dumb s. They must not have a brain in their heads to blow that kind of money. Wasn't Mike Tyson the highest paid athlete in the world and he went bust to. It's crazy how dumb these people are. Matt Bonner earns 3-4 million apx? Yet he has a brain and will retire more comfortably then most of these idiots.
I used to work for a guy in Seattle who was one of Microsoft's first 100 employees. He couldn't not make money and was semi-retired before he reached 30. A couple of years ago I heard he was flat busted and back to working in a cubicle.
happens.
Maybe he had the majority of his cash invested in the stock market which got hammered during the Global Financial Crisis. In that case its pretty ed up and unlucky. If I had that cash id just have it safely in the bank and forget investments, that is to unstable.
I just can't see giving a contract of 14 mill to a guy who could not even dribble the ball without turning it over?
I don't know. He was more of an asset to freakin Miami then he was to us
The figure is astounding IMO
I originally blamed Parker, but not after rewatching the game. The Heat transition D on that last play was perfect. Parker had no one to pass the ball to. The guys in the corners were covered. The spacing between Manu and Tim, who both trailed on that play, was poor, so Wade was able to guard Manu and be in the passing lane for Tim at the same time. Bosh was in the paint to stop anything going to the basket. Great defense ... Poor spacing on offense. Not Tony's fault.
Parker immediately went Hero Ball after half time though. He went away from Tim who had just hit 25 first half points. All of a sudden in the 3rd Quarter it was all Tony, and he was .
So JR Smith will get 6M....

Hey I love Manu for all his greatness and his contributions as an iconic player for this franchise. On some level. I'm glad he's still a Spur. However, I do struggle watching his continual declining play. Indeed it was an absolute beating to watch during the playoffs. Hey, many of us were saying the same things about Duncan until he changed his body and his style to re-emerge as a dominant player. It's a proven fact that older players get injured more often and at some point productivity becomes limited. It happens to every athlete and it's certainly nothing to be ashamed of. Manu is still a bonafide HOFer. However, if he unable to stem his decline, one has to wonder if the best thing for him to have done is retire?
One thing is certain, this will certainly be discussed, ad nauseum, on this forum over the next two years.

No argument on the criticisms of Parker - especially the ball-hogging in Game 7, when he was totally gassed. I cursed him incessantly for that too. Where I disagree with you is when you say Parker doesn't get blame for that. He's gotten plenty. Parker has clearly been the most polarizing of the Big Three - especially on this forum. He's been lambasted, rightly and wrongly, on this forum for years - especially before he became one of the premier point guards in the NBA. Manu, on the other hand and in many ways, has been probably the most beloved and protected of the Big Three - even ahead of franchise icon Tim Duncan. Just a little added perspective.
No really im not mad right now. One day though that team you root for won't be good anymore and you won't be a fan, like most fake Miami fans! Thats the truth though.
BTW Lebron looks 40![]()
Don't worry, I too get called a bandwagon fan by the Popsuckers and Manu fan boys on ST. What you said is very true. All of them will one day lose interest in the Spurs once their glorious days are over and the ATT seats get emptier. They're all a bunch of hypocrites if they really think that we're bandwagon fans.
Then again, the commie s in Argentina's government likely confiscate 80 percent of his income so he probably couldn't afford any less.
I just hope he learns how to pass again....to our team.
