Gary can win a game for you.

Not so many bench players can do that.

    Hope he will stay.

Neal has marginally better stats on shooting percentages in FG, 3Pt and FT this year. This year his 3pt percentage was below 40% because of his injury. Some say Belinelli may be better defensively, but he was primarily a perimeter shooter in Chicago that they let go in order to bring in Mike Dunleavy. Defense has yet to be proved.

I thought Neal did a pretty good job over all in the playoffs. I wish him well.

I expected both Gary Neal and the Spurs organization to move on from each other, and so they apparently have. But let me say this:

Gary came into camp a few years ago, and nobody knew who he was. Just another former college player looking to make it big after a few years oversees.

He came, he played, he conquered. The Spurs signed him for pennies on the dollar.

This man was never the most talented on the floor, but he came out every night with the biggest heart of anyone.

He never complained. He was never a distraction. He never pretended to be something he wasn't. He was just Gary Neal.

People tried (and failed) to compare him to Roger Mason Jr. This kid was ice cold. Had bigger onions than most players making millions.

So here we are... 3 years later. One incredible game saving shot to keep a series alive. One amazing 3 PT onslaught to help secure a win in the finals.

He was never expected to amount to anything, but he is a warrior. He is the example of a dream come true for many young NBA fans all over the world.

So say what you want about him. We can go over his deficiencies on defense. We can analyze his propensity for wild shots. Or...

We can simply be satisfied with an incredible shooter who fell into our laps, all the while earning what amounts to about $2M over 3 years.

God bless you Gary, and good luck in the future.
    Good stuff.

comparing Gary Neal to Roger Mason was one of the most shameful acts in ST history, i was so mad when that happened...
Gary Neal is all heart, warrior, work ethic and great teamate, sad sad seeing him go, still hold a little hope that he will stay, please front office come to sense, reconsider and do the right thing here...

Boom great post. And let's not forget Tiago got here at the same time and didn't do a fraction of what Gary did in the POs during that time frame...

Game 7...8-14 from the field and 3-6 from distance for 24pts...and two clutch FT's to seal the game. Anymore criteria you'd like to add?

Eh.. eight guards for the next season? There has to be a trade in the making if Gary comes back.

    1. Bringing Neal back was the first choice for the Spurs

    2. Neal was asking for more years and/or dollars than the Spurs were willing to spend.

    3. Spurs move quickly to sign Belinelli as an affordable Neal replacement.

    4. Neal discovers that there is no market for his services at the dollars/years he wanted.

    5. Neal's price comes down to the point that he is too good a value for the Spurs not to match.

    6. Spurs retain Neal, but now have a ridiculous logjam at the guard positions.

    7. At least two of Nando, Joseph, Mills are traded this summer or one of them plus Belinelli are traded when Belinelli is eligible to be traded.

    8. Spurs and Bucks are logical trade partners. Excess guards for Mbah a Moute would work.

Maybe this gets us over the cap so that we can use the MLE?? Is it possible we used the bi-annual exemption on Bellenelli? Can one use the bi-annual exemption and the mid-level exemption in the same year?

I would like to see the Spurs keep Neal after seeing them stand pat pretty much through FA.

IMO Manu continues his rapid decline and misses a good chunk of next season anyway. I would take having Neal on the roster over having Mills and De Colo.

Don't need to sign Neal to use the MLE. The bi-annual exception was used on the Nando last summer. The Spurs will not have the BAE at their disposal again until next summer.

That would be great, if the Bucks would do it.

    Trading Belinelli would suck.

Neal is a fine SG but, given Spurs roster, he will end up playing PG if he is re-signed.
After what he did when he played PG in the past two years, I'm sure I don't want that.

I still think it's tempting to trade Green right now, his trade value is as good as it's ever gonna get...

There's too many guards and too many bigs, so the Green + Bonner package is on the table if they get an offer they like...

I doubt he would have to play too much point with Manu, Belinelli and an, more than likely, improved CoJo as clear better options.
