Now perhaps the last roster spot can be used for a player that will actually play.
Not so fast:
Nanterre would be my guess.

I hope that a player like Thompson to get a training-camp invite on a non-guaranteed deal. Then, if he doesn't play well the Spurs can give 10-days or maybe bring over an international player mid-season.
Non issue. He wasn't going to play here yet. We need a veteran 3 behind Leonard.
It says better opportunity. Better opportunity as in better pay, team, compe ion, playing time, what?
If it's Nanterre, the reason would be that they play the Euroleague.
GL to him
At least he is going to a good team and a good league.
Interesting that he said that he made the call to play in Europe and that the Spurs didn't decide anything yet. Mature decision but then again he has a kid and must provide for his family.
The "team in Paris" is at 99% Nanterre. While we were talking, Thomas took a call from his agent, J.R. Hensley, and later said he had agreed to a contract to play for a team in Paris.
Hopefully he gets some serious playing time.
He certainly will.
Nanterre is a very small team in France but they put a huge upset last year by winning the French league which gave them the right to play the Euroleague. They will have a hard time to even win 1 game in Euroleague. Now, the bright side is that Thomas should get a lot of playing time and it's a team that really take care of its players.
I looked at the current roster for the team and it looks like Will Daniels is the starting small forward. I don't know anything about him but from his stats he seems to be a one dimensional player, a scorer. If Thomas demonstrates the he can do more than score, perhaps he'll be able to challenge for the starting position.
Daniels will be the starting PF for Nanterre. Thomas will start at the 3.

That's great to know. Thanks for the update.
Maybe TMAC decided against China and come back to the Spurs. Thus requiring the Spurs to make room for him.
it seems like a great idea, he'll get a lot of playing time and maybe learn defense aside from scoring a lot.
sure man, now we'll sign him to the max.
That is cool he is playing in France that means "Bruno" can keep us up to date on how well his game is improving.
Don't know why so many Spurs fans struggle to accept that T-Mac is done as an NBA player. Dude couldn't score in garbage time. Sure, he can play "point forward" except we don't really need that at the wing position.
Besides, I would hope that T-Mac wouldn't have to struggle between playing on the Spurs (an NBA team) or playing in China. I would think he, like every other American good enough to play in the NBA, would pick the Spurs over playing in China.
Yep, circa 05 Welcome back!!!!!!!!!!!
Shooting a hair over 40% is NOT "tearing up summer league".
I'm going on record and saying that I don't think Deshaun Thomas will never play a regular season game for the Spurs. He's not "long", and did FAR worse on the combine agility and sprints than DeJuan Blair did, so he'll never be able to defend either wing position. No defend, no play in SA.
The Spurs will retrieve his phone number in Europe, whether he likes it or not
