Deshaun Thomas
"Nanterre had a good program for me and it is a good step before joining the NBA. Pro A is a good compe ion and it will be interesting to play the Euroleague. I spoke with David (Lighty, himself a former Ohio State ed) the championship group. He told me they took good care of him, the great atmosphere in the team, he had a lot of fun during the season and the city was great. It will be a good challenge for a young player like me to play the Euroleague. My goal this season is going to be to get better and win games. With the Spurs are still in contact, they told me to continue to improve myself and focus on my game. "

Nanterre lost 84-89, looks like 3 point shooting was their downfall (5/19).

I saw him play two days ago in a game against Paris and he had close to zero impact on the game. He will surely get better with time but he was clearly a disappointment in that game.
Nanterre is playing a game right now:

I've read today an interview of Nanterre's coach saying that he was disappointed by the low impact of some of his new players including Thomas.
Hopefully he is not another James Gist.
Thomas is a pudgy slow shooter who can't defend any NBA position. There is a reason he was available at that point in the draft.
1 game does not make him a bust. He has long odds to make it, but if he gets good at 2-3 legit skills, he may be able to become a fringe nba player.
Scoring/shooting is where he excels at. He needs to make that deadly. Work on becoming a 3/4 combo player defensively.
Never going to be a starter caliber player. But hopefully he can carve out a decent career as a niche bench player.
I'm guessing there is maybe a 5% chance he ever plays NBA rotation minutes.
If his game doesn't mature, I'd say its less than 5%.
My estimate was not based on his current game. I had already factored in improvements.
fair enough
He's a player who could look pretty good if he's put in good positions to succeed. So long as he's patient in Europe and doesn't force the Spurs' hand, I think they'll give him plenty of years to train and try to develop some NBA-caliber skills.
Spurs fans look at our low draft choices with optimism-- and forget the tremendous odds against players who are in the second round EVER becoming regular NBA contributors. Even the lower picks in Round 1 below 15 are not likely to stick.
Nanterre is about to play another game:

0/0/0 in 8 minutes today for Thomas. Tough start of season for him.
Nanterre is playing its first game of the Euroleague season against CSKA Moscow right now. Thomas is coming off the bench.
Thomas checks in with 33 seconds left in the first quarter and promptly hits a three to close the quarter. Nanteree is up 21-11, playing with great energy.

Nanterre owning CSKA 21-11 after the first quarter, finished with a 3 from Thomas...
