Lefty is right... This one is on Pop... horrid subs ution pattern, didn't adjust well the defensive rotations, and waited waaay to long to put Manu in the fourth. It happens, but this on is on him in addition to the players.
horrible is an understatement. that lineup he had in gave up a 19-0 run like it was nothing. and he sat there allowing it to happen. i hope it was planned to make the clippers think they are better than they really are so if we meet them in the playoffs we destroy them and their whole existence..

Say that when the Spurs don't have home court advantage in the playoffs. Our starters play the lowest number of minutes of any team in the NBA. Gee... Manu plays 23 min, and Tim less than 28 min. Look, I am not a Pop uber critic, and yes, Pop has lost more basketball knowledge in one nightmare than the collective site combined over the last decade, yada yada, but you piss off important games that are winnable by ing experimenting and... I don't even know what the he was doing tonight TBH.
yeah, giving away 3 and 4 games is crucial when you're playing in the west. if we played in the eastern conference, we could rest duncan for a quarter of the season and still have the #1 seed.

I don't hate on Pop anymore now that Brown and Bud are gone. His 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in command this season all look like a bunch of dumb s. Imagine Ime as our coach next year

This is gonna be as good as it's gonna be, folks.
agree, I don't want any of the bench coaches to be the next HC. I hope Jim Boylen/Donald Pleasance is good in other areas after recommending Ayres. still don't understand that move.

as for replacing Pop, I don't think he's irreplaceable. I don't take him for granted, but I don't deny his ups either. I think you can find a good coach to take over, just requires a lot of work and diligence on the ownership to get it right.

Unfortunately for Popovich approximately 65% of Spurstalk posters know more about basketball than he does.

popovich knows basketball, but only a fool would think he's never wrong and knows what he's doing 100% of the time. Che knew guerrilla warfare, but even he got himself in a situation he couldn't get out of.

Yes, but if Che were going to go to someone for advice and felt he might be a little out of his element, he'd probably go to, you know, another commander. Someone with experience in warfare. Not some dude sitting on his ass surfing the internet who has never served in the military, telling him to put all his tanks on a hill because they'll get +2 to range if he does so.

Same principle applies here. Pop is probably holding onto hope about Ayres for too long, but you're doubly the fool if you think you have even a BASIC concept of what to do to give the Spurs the best chance to win the le this year. You and a bunch of other posters act like Pop's just going senile, exactly half a year after we were seconds away from a le that we had no business even COMPETING for. We were considered playoff fodder last year for most of the season. But yeah. It's easier to be cynical and try to find reasons to nurture the belief that one of the 3 greatest coaches in NBA history is a massive idiot.

There are at least 27 other teams in the NBA who would kill to have Pop coaching them. The amount of people here with the "what have you done for me lately" at ude towards Pop, Tony, and Manu is ing disgusting. It's the worst kind of fan, and I never thought I'd see Spurstalk populated with so many "Spurs fans" who seem to revel in the defeats/injuries/etc because it gives them a buzz of cognitive dissonance.

he doesn't have to come here for advice. we are stating what we see. it's an internet forum. people come here, state their opinions, chat about games and voice their likes or dislikes. exactly what else would u do on an internet forum? have u not ever disagreed with anything the spurs have done? have u not ever disagreed with the way a movie was made or ended? what if when u criticized the ending of that movie someone told u, "______ is a film director, he has no time to seek advice from a guy like you that works a 9 to 5 and pays his money to watch films on weekends." when you're just voicing your opinion on why u didnt like the movie? would u feel that u had no right to even speak on the subject because you aren't a filmmaker?

First of all, a lot of the stupid that gets spewed word for word, week after week, verbatim, gets REALLY ing old. You know what? We get it. We get that you hate Manu. We absolutely get that. We got it the first time you said it. Here. Since apparently it's not clear enough for you:

Coming up next on Spurstalk: Tony plays heroball 24/7, Manu is a turnover machine, Popovich would never have won without Duncan, and why the Spurs are a poorly managed franchise that is going nowhere fast and should blow the team up. There. I just wrote out all the nice little posts for you to cover the bases.

Clear? Or should I find another way to phrase it? Every ing year we have panic after literally every regular season loss. It's bull , and so tired. Man up and act like you've been there before.

I think the biggest problem that Cry Havoc and a lot of others have is that it is not expressed like opinion or this is how I would do it..... it is the same chicken little dump Pop or Player after we lose a game. The Heat and Pacers lost to the Pistons, but I really don't think anyone believes that makes Detroit an Eastern powerhouse making the top two look over their shoulder. Sometimes you lose games and plans don't always work, and an analysis of what went wrong doesn't hurt.... but when the same tripe about Pop is past it or trade tried and tested players for some un tested rookie or euro player is plastered again and again it gets tired.

Especially when two missed free throws were the difference between us wearing championship gear and avoiding "NBA moments" from last finals, he got that run right with all his resting of players and experimenting etc.

Apparently it seems that having Mills and the 2nd unit dominate and create great chemistry together wasn't good enough for Pop so now we're back to watching multiple point guards split minutes (Mills and Pop's favorite little doof ) and not surprisingly the 2nd unit suddenly looks like . The criticism of Pop is completely justified .. there seems to be no reason to mess with the lineups, the team's 2nd unit has been the best in the league so far, but Pop just can't keep from messing it up. My prediction is Joseph will slowly usurp Mills' minutes and that will pretty much kill Patty's confidence to the point where Joseph will eventually take over the full duties (regardless of how well the team plays with him) and Pop will subsequently feel justified.

While that is true, it reminds me a lot of Jerry Sloan in Utah... Jazz fans only knew how good they had it once Jerry walked away.
Obviously, sir, your sort of reality isn't welcome around here.

It's frustrating to see Pop mess with lineups that were already successful. I think that's a knock on Pop for sure. The Spurs have kept the same personnel aside from 2 new faces and one of those faces has integrated themselves into the 2nd unit perfectly so why mess with lineups we know work? Or why not do it against teams that are not in the west?

Do some of you guys more than your GF, assuming you are able to get one in the first. I understand the point of a forum is to express your opinion, but most of the attempted banter that is written on here is just cry baby bull .

I wouldn't be surprise if some here were the kids at the supermarket who balled on the floor when their mommy told them they couldn't buy the toy or candy bar they wanted.

This quote right clearly tells me either you don't watch Spurs game that often or you just don't pay attention. For the past 3 years, Pop has played horrible lineups against the quality team starters.

    1. this gives our bench film on what they need to improve
    2. this gives Pop a sample on what lineups and combination work, so he isn't experimenting in the playoff and
    3. Yes, this gives our opponents a false sense of winning.

I didn't even watch the game, but when I read about it this morning I wasn't surprise at the result. 19-0 run against a ty lineup. Do you think Pop is seriously going to play this same lineup come playoff time. The only decisions I questioned from Pop last year was benching Duncan those last two regulation possessions in game 6 and this wasn't after the fact either.

i would respond about the whole 4th quarter of game 6, but i'd just be opening old wounds so i'll just respectfully decline comment. have a nice day.

but you're like jay z fans that complain over his ty albums with 1 or 2 good songs, but every time he releases something, they rush out and buy it or pay for it from itunes. you're as much of a problem as the people u criticize. it's a 2 way street. if these people are as much of trolls as you claim they are, then don't feed them. but something tells me there is a part of u that agrees with them, but u just choose not to express your disdain in their manner because you want to take the high road as if such comments on professionals is beneath you. why else would you continue to enter their threads every day?
