I consider it an extreme display of ignorance.

Do you consider racism as an extreme political view? 'cause that's what anti-semitism is.
I consider racism as a political view yes. Extreme or moderate, every opinion, every idea has its place in the political debate. This is what Democraty is all about

I find it hard to consider "hatred or intolerance of another race" as an "opinion" of any kind.

And in any case, if someone has that kind of "political view", I would reconsider my relationship with that person.

For those Americans who aren't familiar, one of the things Dieudonné is famous for is saying that it's a shame the ovens aren't in operation anymore. Unlike some of the jackasses who try to deny the Holocaust, he acknowledges that human beings were put into gigantic ovens and cremated alive. He just thinks it makes for a suitable joke. And there is absolutely ZERO chance that Parker has not heard the "comedy" routine, which means that he, too, thought it was suitable for a joke. You doubt it? Why was Parker making the gesture? It's because he was joking with Dieudonné about his comedy.

One thing you should know about Parker's "statement" from earlier today - those aren't his words. That statement was crafted for him, and put into his hands to read. The Spurs organization thinks this ends things, but they're wrong. Until Parker denounces Dieudonné for the racist, anti-Semite that he is, all he has done is say that he doesn't want to be in hot water over the incident. My bet is that he isn't going to do that. So if you're a Spurs fan, be prepared for the to keep coming up. Even the person who crafted the response thinks it's distasteful.

For those trying to deny the meaning of the gesture - even Parker's statement acknowledges what it is. He just says that he "didn't know it" until recently. So don't play the game that it is a harmless gesture that means something else. I will admit that some people are just copying what they see, and don't know what they are doing. But a lot of them do. Have a look at the off-hand (the one pointing downward) of the people doing it. Some of them are relaxed, but many of them have the stiff, flattened hand that used to be part of the Nazi salute - just pointed downward. Look at that picture of Obama doing it. As much as I dislike O, he doesn't have a clue what he's doing. But notice Jay Z's rigid hand and arm? That er isn't brushin' the dirt off.

Are you actually calling Ginobili a nazi? Really? Is that the kind of person you are? Somebody makes mistakes in a ball game and you accuse them of perpetrating the worst crimes against humanity? Really? Or do you think that because you have a user name that has some significance in the Spurs' lore you are en led to dish out the greatest insult? Comparing turn overs to nazi behaviour? Is this what this site has become?

By the way, Parker did this 3 years ago, a 28 years old athlete having fun on a night out. Yes, if the sign has that meaning then it was wrong for him to do it. But does anybody really believes that Tony thought "oh, I am out, having fun, I should make a stand against Judaism!" All I can hope is that this is a trolling thread posted to annoy all Parker fans.

Obviously it's not Parker's words, it's completely PR damage control, and Parker is pleading ignorance, however it's still important for him to "speak out" against the gesture and its growing popularity as a symbol for anti-semitisim. Once the picture became circulated as something controversial, almost entirely because of Anelka, Parker (and his management) was relatively quick to distance himself from it and say he will "never do it again". Which is good, at least. What's irking though is that Parker has done it different times, saw a clip of him doing it at the end of some kind of interview or video, but at the same time there's no need for a witch hunt. He deserves a chance to explain himself (which he did), and if he's smart he'll stay far away from anything that may isolate him from his fans or money-making ventures. In the mean time, this stuff, this bigoted/racist symbolism, is rightly being called out.

Parker seem to just be mimicing that comedian guy who was doing it since he was with him and posing for a picture. I believe him when he said he didn't know what it actually meant. Gotta give people the benefit of the doubt for first time offenses on things, especially for something like an ambiguous gesture.

Who said Dieudonné was either racist or antisemitic when he did the "Cohen & Bokassa" sketch years ago?... Nobody... But he would somehow be a sudden antisemitic? Please, try to think a little people... He attacks all forms of communautarism... Though, I often think he goes too far in his criticisms (which may have led some to think he's racist) but hey the guy has always been like that, you won't tell him what to think or what to say... "Freedom of speech" is his motto.

    • On 14 June 2006, Dieudonné was sentenced to a penalty of 4,500 Euro for defamation after having called a prominent Jewish television presenter a "secret donor of the child-murdering Israeli army".[69]
    • On 15 November 2007, an appellate court sentenced him to a 5,000 Euro fine because he had characterized "the Jews" as "slave traders" after being attacked in his theater le Théâtre de la Main d'Or.[70]
    • On 26 June 2008, he was sentenced in the highest judicial instance to a 7,000 Euro fine for his characterization of Holocaust commemorations as "memorial pornography".[29]
    • On 27 February 2009, he was fined 75,000 Canadian dollars in Montreal for defamatory statements against the singer and actor Patrick Bruel after he called him a "liar" and an "Israeli soldier".[71]
    • On 26 March 2009, Dieudonné was fined a total of 3,000 Euros for defamation after having criticised Elisabeth Schemla, a Jewish journalist who ran the now defunct Proche-Orient.Info website. He declared on 31 May 2005 that the website wanted to "eradicate Dieudonné from the audiovisual landscape" and had said of him that "he's an anti-Semite, he's the son of Hitler, he will exterminate everyone".[72]
    • On 27 October 2009, he was sentenced to a fine of 10,000 Euros for "public insult of people of Jewish faith or origin" related to his show with Robert Faurisson.[73]
    • On 8 June 2010, he was sentenced to a fine of €10,000 for defamation towards the International League against Racism and Anti-Semitism, which he had called "a mafia-like association that organizes censorship".[74]
    • On 10 October 2012, he was fined €887,135 for tax evasion. According to the French revenue service, Dieudonné failed to pay part of his taxes from 1997 to 2009.[
