It is a sad day when a highly sought-after basketball free agent passes up the Spurs in favor of the Clippers.

So you are saying the clippers have as much chance as the spurs in being contenders.. If granger wont be the savior of the spurs, how is he going to be the savior of the Clippers?

It really doesn't matter what any of us think.
It's whether Granger thinks the Clips are a contender on not that matters.

It's whether Granger thinks he can get playing time and make a difference. It's his contract year.

Just goes to show how far hype will take you. Even the players closest to the game buy into it.

Anybody who wants to compare the Clippers to the Spurs as contenders has obviously been drinking the Koolaid. Spurs have to be the clear advantage. Are you going to take the 4-time champion, defending WCF champions with the majority of the Finals core returning, or the perennially-misguided Clippers who have never even seen the Western Conference Finals? The Clippers are good, but have done nothing to prove that they are more than just show.

The question, at this point, is how much those other factors..his LA home, the increased exposure, more playing time...mean to Granger compared to contending. He'll still win a lot of games in Lob Angeles...but if I had to pick a horse in the race, I'd have to go with the Spurs over the Clippers.

The Spurs have some other advantages to offer Granger, as well. They've got a model organization, Hall of Fame core and coach, former coach Boylen, and I also think that Granger could carve out plenty of time in the rotation if he performed well enough to earn it. The Spurs still have no backup SF, and would also experiment with Granger at everything from the 2 to the 4 if he was capable of it.

Either way, the speculation is entertaining, but all we can really do is wait.

RC has been a virtual ghost this year. This is probably the least I have heard, read or seen of him from what I can remember. With the questionable off season/trade deadline, I really wonder if that DUI has messed with him?

The Clippers are a talented...but they are poorly coached and mentally weak. I don't get why anyone is afraid of them. This Spurs team(if healthy) as they are build right now could take them in six or likely less.

Put Danny on the their point-guard and suddenly the Clippers are zoned out. Warriors suffer the same fate, tbh.

It's the teams who have star swing-men/athletic bigs (Houston/OKC) That put the OP in Popovich.

Yes, but the Clippers are relevant and are in LA too. Clips get a lot more exposure than the Spurs, tbh..
Damn fool. The Lakers and Knicks aren't contenders and the Heat want Butler or he would be signing with one of those teams.

Granger probably respects Rivers though, considering he had to go up against Boston during Rivers' tenure there. Also, there is no doubt he'd play more for the Clippers than he would for the Spurs. The only hope is that George Hill, Brett Brown, and even Hibbert gave him good word about the Spurs

    Winners.

If he values winning, he'll come here. If he doesn't, he'll go to LA.

    Simple as that.
keep in mind he's in the last year of his contract. How much can he really show/prove in the role the Spurs will give him? That he can be a good soldier/bench warmer on a good team? Would watching him play 10 mpg earn him another contract? Or does he have a better shot of doing that with the Clips, where he'd get significant playoff minutes. It's not like the Clippers are slouches either. They're a great team as well.

    Does Granger possess those traits?

30 minutes per game for 10 games or 15 minutes for 20 games? Works out about the same.

Going to the Clippers tbh. Was hoping they'd go for MWP, but I guess they really will start Granger.

The front office has been awful this year. Possibly the worst in the Duncan era. Lost Coach Bud and Brown and replaced them with Boylen and Udoka. Brought in D-League quality talent in Ayres and Daye. Belli was decent but he's more of a lateral move to fill in for Neal. Would not be surprised if they ended up signing Jimmer.

that's depressing. I have to wonder if the Finals hangover turned into a prolonged drunken hangover. I hope this isn't how it will end for Duncan.

I know Johnny Ringo is trolling but enjoy it guys while it lasts win or lose. Spurs front office isn't perfect as many seem other teams seem to think around the league. Seven years without a NBA championship is pretty depressing in our standards, but we can be bad the next few seasons when the big three are gone at best.

Not trolling. Just stating the truth. Missing out on Granger isn't really that big a deal since he's mostly washed-up but the front office does deserve criticism for refusing to address the problems in our frontcourt and wing. We needed a backup SF and they refused to sign one all summer. We expected them to bring someone in during all-star break. Nope - ended up trading for one of the worst players in the league in Daye. And who the thought Ayres was worth a portion of the MLE? He's a 27-year old project big with D-League level skills. He didn't deserve anything more than the minimum.

Yep, and that is why he will go there IMO. I just don't have that feeling he will sign here.

Granger stinks but it wouldn't hurt to have an actual SF on the bench instead of Jimmer.

Thats true, didn't say I really cared one way or another. Granger looks pretty done this year IMO. We need another SF but is he the answer at backup? Not the way he is playing this year.

That being said I doubt he signs here so the ones in here getting their hopes up for it then so be it . I want the Spurs to get healthy and start getting on a roll for the real season.

Yeah he is pretty ty this year TBH.
